History
Among the Qestir, he began his work initially as a hunter of the tribe and was once a well-accomplished lancer, even making regular visits to the Kha soon enough to learn from those amongst them who had had opportunity to study the rhyme and method of Dragoons. It's rumored that he still trains with an Ishgardian in such today, despite his open disdain of the Ishgardians and their ways.
Later on, however, thanks to a great deal of pressure from his family, Uldar was forced into training as a conjurer to replace his father one day as one of the residential healers and mentors. As such, he interacted with a number of Qestir seeking to learn the ways of conjury, though experiences with the teachings of both varied throughout the clan given the varying communicative barriers that proved hampering for the education of some, and lead to greater understanding for others. His memories of these interactions seem generally fond, though he is reluctant to speak of them in most instances.
Approximately a decade ago, according to Uldar at least, he came to Eorzea alongside his parents, Temur and Arighe of the Qestir. Arighe died not long after arrival due to illness within the Twelveswood, but Uldar and his father remained within the city-state for some time in hiding to prevent uproar given their appearance. Since the arrival of the Domans, he has abandoned such attempts and now travels openly where he wishes, furthering his study of conjury by studying the work of the Padjal. This and his duties as a Conjurer require a great deal of travel through Gridanian lands, and he can often be found wandering varying locations within the Shroud...some dangerous, some not quite so. He has not yet stated his family's reasons for choosing to flee Othard, but given that it was during a time of high hostile Garlean activity...they likely had a very big reason to.
Personality
Even when the man isn't maintaining the silence expected of him, Uldar tends to be quite reserved until he gets to know someone. Once he does, Uldar does 'open up' to a point, but even then...he's a very mellow and seemingly embittered person. Unless asked, he will never supply information regarding himself, though he will proffer his opinions should he feel them pertinent to the current situation. This can and does make him come off as bossy at times, though outside the field of combat, the most this really amounts to is him being irritatingly snarky toward others. It is not often that he truly intends harm with this, however, and it would not be an uncommon sight to see him come to the defense of someone he regularly berates, especially in instances where they may suffer physical harm. He is very protective of those whom he maintains contact with.
This extends to the point where, should he feel something without asking permission is the best course of action, he will carry it through regardless of the personal wishes of an unfortunately involved party. Nor will he ask forgiveness for doing so, unless the negative effects upon the relationship entailed are severe and he values that relationship enough to press the issue. He has withheld information in the past when making efforts to do what he thought was the best course of action, despite knowing and expecting disapproval from his peers-- the ends justify the means to him.
