History

Eaubront Shopont was born to a Duskwight father and Wildwood mother, although they disappeared under mysterious circumstances when he was very young. He will tell you he has no memory of them, and it seems to have little consequence to him. With no shared sense of culture or identification with either race, he spent much of his early life in Gridania feel like a misfit, an outcast. And so, in his early teens, he hopped aboard the back of a merchant's cart headed for Ul'dah, to be anywhere but Gridania.

Life was not much better as an orphan in the streets of Ul'dah; on the contrary, it was rather worse. Most importantly, though, was that it was worse for almost everyone, regardless of their race, upbringing, or background, if you weren't born to a well-off merchant family. Here Eaubront found a sense of camaraderie with other street urchins, which was more than he ever had in his home city. In the streets of Ul'dah he learned how to survive, and how to fight; once he acquired his first sword, he knew what his weapon of choice would be. Shortly thereafter he fell in love with gambling and games of chance.

He made a living for himself wandering the lands between Thanalan and the Black Shroud, making gil by performing odd jobs, taking guildleves, and gambling. He would usually have enough gil to feed himself and his chocobo, Gerik, and put himself up at cheap taverns most nights, and spent much of his free time wandering from place to place and spending his free time in said taverns. Though he enjoyed the freedom this lifestyle afforded, with no obligations or commitments, he began to tire of the day-to-day style of living and began to keep an eye out for opportunities for more long-term employment during his travels.
