« Smile. »
She forced a smile. He slapped her with his full-plated gauntlet.
« Again. »
She closed her eyes as the pain was already fading. It seems her skin grew a little bit thicker with time. She looked straight to his face and smiled.
He slapped her again. A few troopers laughed. He grabbed her head and suddenly forced her to look at the ground.
« Lower your gaze, dog. »
She lowered her gaze and held her breath. Locked her feelings away. Stood still. She imagined being in a place far away...a field of flowers, by the pale moonlight, hiding in the embrace of shadows...far from the Empire...far from him.
« Do you know why I summoned you ? »
She shook her head negatively, keeping her gaze low. He slapped her again. Vicious laughs were heard once more.
« Say ‘No, Centurion.’ »
« No, Centurion » she repeated submissively, in a neutral tone. Her cheek was as red as blood but she made abstraction of the pain.
« Good. You are a quick-learner, after all. » his voice had something fearfully mechanical and metallic through the full armor he was wearing. He begun walking around her, tapping his boots on the ground as he looked at her as if looking at a pathetical pet in training. He stopped after a while, as she remained silent and quiet, and beckoned one of the trooper close.
« Hit her. » he commanded.
Meifeng’s eyes grew wide with surprise, as the trooper could not hold a sadistic smile. He struck her hard in her belly, making her fall on her knee as she tried to catch her breath, enduring the pain. The Centurion made a few steps backwards and quietly sat to watch her muffling a painful cry.
« I want you to prove your loyalty to me. It is a very simple task, something not too difficult to achieve for a good dog. You will go in Eorzea as a refugee, and here you will get closer to whoever I deem interesting enough. See it as a little test, mm ? You will be my eyes and ears, and eventually my knife in the dark. Do you understand ? »
She was unsure of what he was really aiming at. Was he really talking of freeing her to command her like a soldier ? Was he so confident ? The thoughts rushed quick in her head. An opportunity. An opportunity to strike him and destroy him. To free everyone from his grasp. But as she thought of all this, she did not answered as fast as she should have. The Centurion nodded to the trooper who violently kicked her in the back, smashing her to the ground.
« I know what you are thinking... You will learn that dogs do not think. They answer when asked. And they obey. Now...it seems you do not quite understand, so I will explain things another way. Let’s see... Should I remind you of your situation ? Your master saved you all, by negociating your lives with us. Have some respect to your new masters. Now...I am a merciful man, all your friends are safe and spared. After all, they wielded, they are not technically rebels. However... » his voice grew cold and harsh « ...they are not citizens of the Empire. As long as they work in our camps they are safe...but bad workers deserve to be punished...just like you, bad dog. » He stopped and nodded again. The trooper grabbed her, pulling her from the ground and punching her even harder. She cried in pain, blood flowing on her face.
« Do you understand ? »
« Yes ! » she cried, without even thinking about it this time.
« Good. » he walked towards her as the trooper saluted before getting back in the ranks.
« I will make you pay any mistake. If I ever doubt your loyalty, your people die. If I ever doubt your skills, your people die. If I ever doubt your usefulness, your people die. Try anything, and I will make them beg for death. Do you understand ? »
« Yes, Centurion. »
« On your feet, dog. »
She raised painfully, trying to stand straight and still. A tear rolled down her cheek.
« Why are you crying… ? » his gauntlet gently wiped the tear from her face, wiping blood at the same time. She remained still, holding her breath, trying to cast away her feelings once more.
« You have no reason to cry... You should be grateful. » his voice was even colder. He seemed to ponder over something before asking in a neutral yet harsh tone : « Undress. Now. »
She felt her heart stop beating in her chest for a moment. All of her wanted to take her chance, kick a trooper, grab a gun, shoot at the Centurion. One try, one shot. She’d probably die after. And...all her people with her foolish attempt would die as a consequence. She thought of all the people she grew up with, and her oath to protect them and bow to the chief’s will. All of this was the consequence of his attempt to save everyone. It wasn’t the right choice, but it wasn’t a bad choice. She slowly understood...the horrible dilemma he faced and she was facing since the day that man took a fancy in torturing her.
She undressed. There were many hematomes on her body. But that wasn’t what the troopers were looking at, she was sure. Once more she could her laughs and vicious comments. The Centurion gently raised her chin and gazed at her from all angles. It was humiliating. But she stool still, naked and bleeding, silent and pateint. Enduring. Whatever it will take.
« I could ask all my men to enjoy you here and now. Would you like that ? »
She felt a cold chill in her spine and a horrible feeling of disgust seized her. She was unsure of what answer he was waiting, so she said nothing.
« No… ? You think you’re too good for them ? Should I take you myself then ? » he grabbed her by the throat and pulled her closer. She closed her eyes, praying for this moment to end. He laughed briefly, releasing her. « Now, tell me, dog, how do you feel ? »
She opened her eyes and gazed at the ground. Thoughts rushed quick in her head once more. It was obvious. The words he chose. The game he was playing. He was training a dog to obey. « Grateful. » she finally told him after a significant silent.
« Show how grateful you are. On your knees. »
She obeyed, slowly bending to her knees before prostrating herself at his feet.
« Good. Now, you understand. » He grabbed her and made her stand straight once more, before patting her on the cheek. « If you are alive, it is my will. If no one harms you, it is my will. If your people lives, it is my will. Be a good dog, and things will remain as they are. Do you understand ? »
« Yes, Centurion. » she replied submissively.
« Good dog. Tommorrow I will give you the name of a rebel leader who fled to Eorzea. You will hunt him and kill him. Bring a proof of the death and come back. If you fail, you pay the price. If you succeed, well...you will keep feeling grateful to me... » saying so he gently carress her cheek, freaking her out even more. It seems he was enjoying pulling the strings of this theatrical sadistic show. He walked away, and stopped half-way, nodding to his men. « Beat her up, but do not defile her, I need her to be focus on her task tomorrow. » he commanded. The men were already grabbing her when she could not help but cried « Why ?! »
The troopers waited for the answer as well. « Next time you will not make me lose that much time to cope for your stupidity. Be grateful for what I do or do not allow. Or maybe you have a complaint to make ? »
Meifeng closed her eyes, shaking her head as she realised what her life woul look like now. All her freedom, all her dreams, all her peaceful ideals smashed by the Garleans. She thought of her people, who would know her fate or worse if she ever tries something now. She had to be tough. She had to be stronger. She could survive this. Bend to the Empire’s will. Make this Centurion believe he had her in control. Be the dog he wanted her to be. And wait the right moment. Do whatever it takes. Endure as longer as needed.
« No » was her reply.
« Good. »
He left. They beated her up.
Demeanor:
Her attitude is quite adapted to the needs of the situations. She spent her early childhood being the submissive child training to be a ninja worthy of Othard's legacy of fighting ways, and the rest of her life kneeling to the Empire and waiting for the right moment to strike and free her people as well as herself. She is quite used to hide her feelings, endure silently and be the person she needs to be to protect the people she swore to protect and restore their honor as well as hers.
Nature:
Meifeng was a kind woman. All she ever wanted in life was to grow up peacefully and enjoys every moment of happiness. It could be the simple pleasure of tasting green tea in the moonlight or the warm feeling of friendship when someone gets close to her. But her dreams were smashed by the Empire's invasion and the rebellion who led to bloodshed and slaughters. She learnt to be tough, strong, to hide her feelings and be without a shred of mercy if needed.
Trope:
Whatever must be done will be done. No matter how hard it is. No matter how deep will be the wounds. Meifeng was humiliated in all kind of ways and made her heart a sword of steel the day she was forced to bend to the will of the Centurion who made her life a living-hell. She is waiting patiently the day she will be able to betray him and free the survivors of her village from the imperial camps they were led into. Meanwhile, she remains the Centurion's "Dog" and burries every shred of hope inside her heart while she is used by him as an assassin for the Empire's glory in Eorzea.
Common Appearance:
Meifeng is a cold beauty. Pale skin, long black silky hairs and deep black eyes. Her lips are painted black and she has a beauty spot near the right corner. She is not very tall but she is certainly thin. Her legs and arms are muscled from years of training.
Scars & Markings:
She has a tatoo on her cheek which is a symbol of her village, a token of distinction to remind everyone her rank in society. It would have no value for anyone else but can be used to recognize her more easily. Nevertheless, she's used to hide that tatoo behind strands of hairs.
Clothing:
It is quite rare to see Meifeng with the traditionnal clothes of her village. She usually wore green and gold robes with gaiters and tantour, with golden gauntlets and brown-leather bodice. A colourful yet very comfortable outfit to fight with her feet and fists. As an assassin, however, she uses the ninja's traditionnal attire, all dressed in black and midnight blue, with utility belts and thin leather and cotton clothes which are quite useful to reduce the noises when she hides and hunts her targets. She is always wearing a mask when she does so, and uses Doman short swords to fight in close combat.

Meifeng is very good at locking her feelings away, but this is also her greatest weakness. She can endure pain and sufferings for years if needed, as she only lives with the hope to free her people and offer them a second chance to rebuild their lives away from the Empire, in a safer place than Othard. Indirectly trained by the Centurion who crushed her life made her skin thicker and her heart stronger. She now knows perfectly the ways of the Empire and how to adapt - as she was often beaten up at any mistake she'd do when speaking to any garlean person. She is also a very good fighter, well-trained and quite able to learn more. She is also a beautiful woman - and this is something she learnt to use to get closer to the targets she was told to assassinate. Although it is something that disgusts her deeply, she has a very strong will and is ready to do anything it takes to reach her goals.
Meifeng has been treated as a slave for so long she forgot how it felt to actually live as a person. How it felt to be trusted or trust anyone. How it felt to be considered as a human being and be liked as one. Getting used to all kind of physical of mental tortures made her lock her feelings deep inside, waiting for the day the Centurion will make a mistake. But that day has yet to come, and with the years passing by he made her the instrument of destruction of all she ever fought for. With each target she was led to slay, a shred of hope was murdered inside her as well. Thus, her greater weakness is none other than her dedication to her people. Threatening their lives and casting the price of hundred of victims for her own freedom in death was more than she could pay.
Meifeng uses 2 very different styles of combat. More than anything else, she is trained in the paths of ninjutsu, using short doman swords, mastering discretion and using tools to poison ennemies or dissapear from sight in a thick smoke cloud. She is quick, agile and her years spent as a Garlean's "dog" for a Centurion made her endurant as well. Her greatest strenght are her feet: she fights like she dances, as light as a feather. She can easily jumps on walls or knocn someone off with all sort of kicks, which made her train by herself on the pugilist's way of fighting when she was sent regularly in Eorzea. As a trained assassin and fighter, she relies more on her skills than instincts, which makes her a worthy opponent for anyone who is part of the army, and an instrument of death without mercy for anyone who is not.
WIP
* She was 5 when the Empire invaded Othard.
* She grew up in a village nearer to the Steppes than the cities. She was the daughter of the village's chief and had many brothers and sisters.
* She had a peculiar fascination for animals, especially lemurians and opo-opo. She could spend hours observing them and mimicking them. A travelling Doman found it quite interesting and told her father he should use her fascination to train her as a fighter. They chose to raise Meifeng as a warrior and she was a quick learner despite her complete lack of ambition and tastes for day-dreaming and peaceful meditations.
* Her father welcomed Doman rebels when she was 20, hiding them in the village. Unfortunately, it brought the Empire's attention and a troopers' unit was sent in retaliation to annihilate the village. Her father negociated terms with the Centurion and denied any relationship with the rebels, wielding to the Empire in exchange for their lives. All were sent to work into the imperial camps to help manufacturing weapons and ceruleum, except for her father whom she never saw again.
* Meifeng lost her mother due to the harsh conditions of living they were condemned to. She gradually lost all hopes of freedom and gave in to anger. She waited for an opportunity to strike and murdered a few soldiers before she was captured and brought before the Centurion who enslaved her people. Despite the fact she should have been executed for her act, he found her fighting spirits and skills enjoyable and decided to play a game with her.
* She was treated like a dog by the Centurion and his troopers, and endured all kind of torments as he made it clear any mistake would lead to the slaughter of all her people. At first, she learnt to obey the hard way, but as time fleeted she played his game and acted like the imperial dog he needeed her to be. She sacrificed herself every day to protect her people, waiting the opportunity to strike and save them. Unfortunately, the opportunity never came and she remained an assassin for the Empire against her own will.
* She spent 10 years being the Centurion's spy and blade, killing whoever he sent her to kill. Doman rebels mostly, to test her loyalty. Despite her convictions she was true to her oath towards her village. She killed them, poisoned them or lured them wherever the Centurion wanted. She never earned his trust, but he knew she would never try to rebel as long as he could threaten the lives of her friends. She could not take the decision to sacrifice as much people...as much friends...for the sake of her honor.
* At 30, she was now quite used to the imperials' codes and values. She was trained to obey and she kept obeying. With time, they stopped to beat her up, as she was not doing anymore mistake. The Centurion taught her like he would have teach a dog to sit and bark at will. But against all appearances, as she grew stronger and wiser, Meifeng stopped waiting for opportunities and decided to create her own in Eorzea. Now that the Centurion's confidence was high, she knew it was the perfect time to use her position. But she could not forget what price she would pay if she ever made the single mistake when trying to support the rebel's cause without them even knowing.
* The rumors of a ninja acting as an assassin for the Empire crossed the seas. Unfortunately, Meifeng's reputation died with her sacrifice and she became more and more isolated. Her own people loathed her and considered her as a traitor, not knowing the true reasons of her act. She kept on pretending to be the Empire's tool anyway, and departed once again for Eorzea with the clear order to strike down the ala mighan's revengeful ideas.
* The relationship connecting her to the Centurion remained unclear at this time. Despite obviously wanting to use her as a tool, the last years were filled with less beating and more lessons. For some reason, he raised her to serve the Empire, by making her embrace their values and act like a perfect soldier would. As she grew more and more close to his ideal, he begun to be more permissive with her and personnaly trained her a few times. Meifeng could not help but having doubts on his lucidity on her intentions...
