Appearance & Personality
- Beauty is a standard Velox holds in high regard, being one of the key tools she uses in order to further her agenda. Her darker color elludes to years of training in harsh conditions, while her pure white hair gives away a pure-blooded Garlean heritage. While she grew up, her hair was cut short, away from her face—however these days, she wears it long and eloquently, with two ringlets streaming across her shoulders, and the rest tied neatly at the back of the head. Her eyes, icy blue, are a trait well-known across the Saevios line; an attribute complimented by their third eyes in the middle of their foreheads. Velox also wears quite a bit of makeup, doing her best to further accent her features, making herself as alluring as she possibly can.
- Typically, Saevios is seen wearing a plain cotton tabard with matching leggings, high-heeled boots, and a simple feathered cap. To an unsuspecting eye, she appears an ordinary traveling Bard—a facade she enjoys keeping up in her travels through Eorzea.
- However, in combat or to other Garleans, Velox dons a custom-made, synthetic-weave set of armor made specifically for her particular style of combat—long range, and stealthy. This is topped off with a mask covering her lower face, revealing her third eye but masking her mouth and chin. This is better control her breathing when stalking a target.
- To many, Velox appears as any other sort of free-spirited, kind-hearted, happy-go-lucky sort of young woman. Going by the nickname “Vee Louis”, she approaches as easy-going and well-liked, quickly befriending strangers and getting close to them with equal swiftness. Velox is a member of several different affiliated musicians' and hunters' groups, making her connections rather vast, and her reputation absolutely sparkling to the common people, particularly in the Ul'Dah area where she first settled down.
- Outside of her second life however, Saevios is viciously, slavishly, and almost fanatically loyal to Emperor Varis Zos Galvus. Intensely sadistic and brutally violent to those who oppose her way of thinking, the difference between “Vee” and Velox Wir Saevios is night and day. Intelligent and crafty, Velox applies everything she sees and hears into her work, using her wits to plan and structure around nearly every little detail that could influence it. Her careful and deliberate methods were often successful in her field engagements, her forces faltering next to never and her casualties the fewest of the IVth Imperial Legion's in forward assault missions. This earned her the reputation of being an excellent tactician, and eventually the name “Foreseer” among her peers and the common soldier. A natural-born leader, both in blood and by personality, Velox quickly rose through the ranks of the Garlean Military and impressed her superiors with demonstrations of ability and prowess.
- In spite of her accomplishments, Velox Wir Saevios has several flaws to her persona...one major one simply being her arrogance and vehement nature. She loathes all non-Garlean individuals, considering them tools in order to be used to the benefit of the Empire and her true people, those with the Third Eye. Velox places herself above all who do not share her blood or her sentiments, treating them as most people of Eorzea treat Beastmen...and Beastmen as far, far worse. Her hatred of them is rooted so deeply that prisoners of the IVth often went missing after giving away vital information, or before their executions—set free only to be hunted down in the wilderness by Velox herself. Far worse than that however, Saevios sees Eorzeans and non-loyal Garleans as little more than cattle, and thus treats them exactly as such: Velox goes out of her way to cook, flavor, and consequentially eat those who become her victims. Commenting that those who do not serve the Emperor should be slaughtered like the animals they are, and that such animals are meant to be devoured—(“It would be a waste to merely slaughter them. At least when one prepares them properly, they can serve some purpose...”)—most other Imperials and Garleans try not to associate with her unless they absolutely must. Velox's cannibalistic tenancies have few to no boundaries, and it is not above her to flay her own subordinates if they fail to please her. She often comments, to the horror of anybody who cares to listen, that Lalafell and Hyur are her favorite, and complains that both Au Ra and Roegadyn are too much a hassle due to their tougher skin and muscles.
Biography
Childhood
- Born Velox Wir Saevios to the Garlean High House of the same name, the eventual “Foreseer” was the middle child of five to then-Legatus Galvis Van Saevios of the II Imperial Legion and the former Lady Terra Wir Fortis, of the same house. With the privilege of being both high-born and pure-blooded, there was not a day where Velox was not showered with the opportunities most only dreamed of. Trained to be a lady for most of her youth, it became apparent early on that she was entirely uninterested in being married off to another family as her mother did, often quarreling with both her and her older sister, Valliatie. Though hardly around during her younger years, Velox highly admired her father, and though it was highly uncommon for high-born women to join the military, longed for the excitement and danger that came with the power of Legatus. She would often sneak away to listen in on Galvis when he spoke of affairs, and absorbed the stories he would tell during evening meals about skirmishes and conflicts in the fields of Dalmasca.
While the young lady dreamed of being alongside him on the field and becoming more than merely a bride, her older brother Valens hungered for the same kind of power that came with the title. However, Valens resented his father, being told that his place was to manage the house and its affairs, grooming him for the position since he was old enough to walk and talk, and to spite him joined the ranks of the Military Academy. When threatened with losing his right to lead the House, and having their younger brother Vistus take over, Valens snapped back at Galvis, claiming that Vistus was too weak to protect the interests of House Saevios, and stormed off. Days later, an accident occurred where Vistus was pushed down a flight of stairs, shattering many of the bones in his legs and rendering him completely unable to walk—an accident most in the family (and in the circles of gossip,) to be the work of Valens in securing his position. Wrought with fury at her older brother's condition, Velox demanded justice be done. With no evidence however, nothing could be proven or claimed to link Valens to the incident. Thus the young daughter of the house resolved to punish the cruelty of her brother with her own vengeance, training her body to become stronger well after hours, and in the seclusion of her bedroom. She bribed and commanded servants of hers to help her become stronger, and adapt to combat, keeping it secret from her overbearing mother and drone of a sister for several years. At the age of nine summers, Velox Wir Saevios applied to the Garlean Military Academy, and was accepted, leaving her home to pursue Valens on her own terms.
Teenage Years
- Training in the Garlean Military was a far cry from the lavish life of a pampered Garlean elite. While treated with a vastly superior mannerism than that of conscripts and slaves of the Empire's conquest, such things meant little in terms of the harshness those in military service were put through. However, Velox's previous studies and natural cunning proved to aid her greatly in the challenges before her, allowing her a greater advantage over her peers, and quickly launching her through the ranks. Through connections with her father's vast network of acquaintances, the Lady Wir Saevios was able to effectively position herself in such a way that she would see herself in the front lines of several confrontations, earning herself a reputation of bravery and willing servitude to the Emperor's name. Through her skills in combat, honed by nearly a decade of strict oversight, Velox was able to easily take charge and rally her comrades in arms to multiple victories on the front, her viciousness and clever tactics earning her the title "Foreseer". Eventually, she graduated with high marks (3rd overall in her class,) and was stationed with the IVth Imperial Legion; the same that her brother, Valens, now helped command. Determined to see Vistus' justice carried out, Velox strained in every way she could to stand out from other soldiers, going well above and beyond what was asked of her. Like a well-oiled machine, she carried out orders with swiftness and deliberate excellence, quickly earning her respect from her peers and interest from her superiors. Within ten years, Wir Saevios had already made her way to the rank of 'Rem'. . . only a few steps downward from the coveted position of 'Van'.
- Now Valens Tol Saevios, her older brother, was less than pleased with this development, as he had already been competing with Firmus Sas Balvius (As ranked at the time) for the position of Legatus to the IVth. Valens found himself threatened by the surge of popularity in both the higher ranks and the common soldier in the IVth his young sister had amassed, as well as the string of victories that Balvius had under his belt. Jealous and enraged, seeing himself to be the one to further their family's legacy, he made several discreet attempts to sabotage Velox's success, with nothing to show for it--often times only furthering her victory against the odds.
A final chance stood, however, in the form of Jovian Sas Noctus, recently transferred from the IInd Legion. A known womanizer and a slimy creature to be sure, Jovian found himself immediately drawn to the powerfully stern, fiery nature of Velox Rem Saevios, and was hungry to claim her as his own. With Primus Van Opes (Van of the IVth at the time) leaving for Garlemald to make a report to the Tribunal, Valens began to set things in motion in order to get his young sister and the greedy Sas alone together for the night. Van Opes had little tolerance for relations between his Legion, feeling it distracting and improper in so highly-regarded a military force, and his seeing Velox bedded with Sas Noctus would eliminate both from the equation.
Neither Jovian nor Valens thought to account for Velox's utter distaste for just such relations, however...or just how willing she was to fend off a commanding officer to keep her favor with Van Opes. The next morning, Velox Rem Saevios had shown for the morning formation--but Jovian Sas Notcus was notedly absent. When Primus Van Opes arrived in the Sas's chambers, the man had been tied to his own bedpost by his sheets, naked as his nameday...apparently sitting there for several hours. The following morning, Jovian was quickly executed without trial in front of the entire Legion as an example, and a warning, to all persons involved...the aging Van was not to be trifled with. It was a message that rang clearly with Valens, who valued his life above anything else...though it would not be long before Primus Van Opes made his own statement to the man, having him transferred nearly a fortnight after the incident to the IInd Imperial Legion—a position little better than a city guardsman, with little to no glory to be found there. To this day, Valens Tol Saevios still commands a battalion there, bitter and spiteful towards both the now retired Van Opes, and his younger sister.
The Calamity
- Spurred into pushing further forward into Eorzean territory by pride and gluttony, the Empire marched deeper and deeper into the jowls of their own demise, unknowingly seeking their doom the further they traveled. The IInd Cohort of the IVth Legion was deployed to Gyr Abania, far on the outreaches of Ala Mhigo, where their numbers were to aid in case of resistance uprising in wake of the XIVth's thinning numbers. With the VIIth deployed at Cartinaeu to stave off the attempts to stop Project Meteor, and the XIVth prepared to bunker down within key points in the heart of Eorzea should such a plan fail, it was ultimately up to their legion to reinforce aid from hostile forces...either within or outside of the city's walls.
:However, none could have foretold of just how chaotic and catastrophic the falling of the lesser moon would truly be. As shard of the sphere rained down along with Bahamut's fiery wrath, the people of the city-state, as well as many an onlooker, began to panic. Indeed, the newest apocalypse had finally befallen them all. Unrest and riots, panicked stampedes, and blemishes of uprising against the Imperials that held the city began to form across the board as every line of Garlemald's soldiers began to buckle and waver against the sudden, unexpected result of their nation's work. As fire and stone hailed upon the ground, Saevios found herself in horrified awe of just how foolish the VIIth had been to awaken such a monstrosity from its slumber...not for the sake of those from Eorzea, or even from Ala Mhigo, who now suffered for it...but for her own men and women of the field, those whom she had been entrusted by the oath she swore--an oath to the Emperor himself and to Garlemald--to command with the best of her ability. Utterly enraged by the thoughtlessness that had now caused her cohort to endure such agony (for a dead cohort could not win a war), Vertia ordered her forces to fall back... Despite commands from the recently promoted Regula Van Hydrus to keep their footing. It would be an error, most in Garlemald would say, that would utterly decimate her career.
:Though the VIth Cohort sustained a small amount of losses, its withdrawal from the fields that fateful day would ripple across Garlemald's gossip pool, ultimately reaching the ears of the Tribunus. Returning to Garlemald with most of her army still very much intact, she was far from welcomed upon her return; upon stepping onto Garlean soil, Vertia Rem Saevios was immediately detained for disobeying direct orders from a superior.
:After a few weeks of imprisonment, Velox was taken before the Garlemald Military Tribunal for assessment and proper hearing. Despite a gleaming record prior to her single act of disobedience it was the insistence of her brother, Valens Rem Saevios, that she be punished and stripped of both her title and her life in front of the Military Tribunal, though her father and many of the other members of the Council thought this to be an illogical reprimand for a first-time offender. The points from Valens, however, were not to be so lightly ignored, continuing to press the matter and having a great deal of sway against certain members of the Tribunal's number. Galvis did his utmost to prevent his daughter's execution for the longest while...but the sudden loss of his young son, Ventus Ban Saevios, prevented him from further attending the trials.
It was the decision of then High-Legatus Varis Yae Galvus to decide whether or not to execute or discharge the woman from the Emperor's service. Velox had not known real fear in the face of combat..fighting did not frighten her, nor did dying for her country. She had not known fear in the face of this trial; whether or not she died, she had done what was right by her men, in spit of their inferiority...to train more troops was a burden to the Empire. But upon gazing into the face of the High-Legatus himself, Velox understood not only how utterly insignificant she was...but later described it as looking upon the visage of a God.
- “The Legatus...a title not befitting him. He is much more than a mere man. I could sense it. Looking upon him, I could feel his power...his ambition...his determination...his strength...an aura of complete domination, the pinnacle of pure Garlean blood! This is the creature who will make his dominion over this star, Vistus...He will become Emperor, once ours has run his course. I feel it in his presence. He will lead our people to the glorious new dawn...above all else, he has spared my humble, miserable life, and for that I will follow him to the ends of all worlds. I can do nothing else as a daughter of Garlemald. What Yae Galvus wills...I will give all to see it done. Mark you this day. I will be right. I know it.”
- Varis Yae Galvus did bring some succor to Velox—he allowed her to live, but stripped her of both power and honorary discharge, sending her off to the savage southern land of Eorzea to live out the rest of her days...not quite a death sentence, but far, far from living. Prove yourself, and all of Garlemald would welcome you with open arms...
And so she departed, with nary a word. Only a slow, solemn bow. An impossible task, the whispers came, through the houses of the highborn and the alleyways of the common streets. So many had been offered similar circumstances. Few to none ever returned, living out the rest of their days in ill-begotten lands, likely murdered by savage inhabitants or worse, turning traitor to the nation that rightfully punished them. Surely even a woman from the Saevios House wasn't immune to such a fall from grace. It was more a death sentence than any sort of execution. Valens Tol Saevios considered it a victory. His sister was as good as dead now, even with no corpse to bury. Slandered, dishonored, and cast out, there was no possibility of her ever coming home.
Present Day
- However...a woman like Velox is not so easily dismayed. Convinced that pleasing the Emperor himself is the only key to her salvation, she now searches for the means to present him with a gift that is sure to please him...please him to the point where he would have no choice to but raise her to the highest honor he could bestow upon her: the position of High Legatus. She would do whatever it took to bring the Eorzeans to their knees in submission...through any means. It will not be an easy task, no...but Saevios is too willing, too eager, and too hungry to be denied. Her Emperor will be sated. She will bring him whatever he wishes...regardless of who she has to crush in order to do so.

Family-
- Father - Galvis Van Saevios: First born of the Saevios line within his generation, Galvis was already positioned for greatness. His house well known in being skilled researchers and scholars, the heir of the family decided against such a trivial life, longing to become a great hero of the Empire. And so it was, that he joined the Garlean Academy, much to the dismay of his family. Knowing his father, Flavius Wir Saevios, yearned to grant his House the power and standing it deserved, Galvis knew it would take more than breakthroughs in the scientific field to gain an equal footing with their peers. Though Flavius died long before he ever got to see his grandchildren, he would have been incredibly joyful to see his line now. Years thereafter his induction into the militia, he became a highly decorated officer of several campaigns, to include aiding in taking the land of Dalmasca as a vassal to the Empire shortly before the Calamity had come to pass. Within the span of a decade, House Saevios had become not only a force of high intelligence, but now attracted the militarily influential, raising the eyebrows of more powerful and larger houses. A serious, cold, and ruthless man, he quickly climbed his way to his present position with both a silver tongue and incredibly potent results in his campaigns--a process he instructed all of his children well in the methods of. Though he was hard and incredibly violent to those who crossed him, his love for his family was without equal. He treated all but Valens with kindness and equality, favoring the boy only due to his first-born status. Galvis and his youngest daughter spent little time together due to their duties, however, he often expressed a great deal of adulation and pride for his children.
- Mother - Terra Wir Saevios: Terra was born into distant royalty, a daughter of one of the many children to the Garlemald throne's line. However, she gave up such absurd claims when she came of age to marry, and was given to the budding Galvis Quo Saevios at the age of eighteen as a pact between the Kantis and Saevios houses. A reserved, quiet, and contemplating woman, she was the soothing side to Galvis's icy nature. She was a talented musician, often entertaining guests of the household and giving lessons to privileged children. She died, however, after a banquet in the honor of Varis Zos Galvis. It is widely believed a member of another Imperial High House may have taken poison to her meal...though Velox herself expects it was the work of her eldest brother.
- Brother - Valens Tol Saevios: The firstborn son of the Saevios line, and heir to the Saevios estate. Privileged and spoiled, Valens sees himself not only superior to other Garleans, but his own family as well. Given more opportunities than his siblings thanks to his eventual inheritance, he has been schooled in nearly every aspect of Garlean society, making him a powerhouse of political and social means. A gifted speaker and an even more gifted soul with a gunblade, Valens rose to his present position as Tol of the IInd Legion. He rules both household and military with an iron fist and a well of contempt for anybody who isn't royalty...or himself. Vertia and Valens utterly despise one another, locking heads long since before becoming family rivals following in the paths of their father.
- Brother - Vistus Dus Saevios: The second son of Galvis Van Saevios, Vistus has always preferred to keep out of the limelight--it is after all, where Valens keeps. Loathing of his brother for his vain and selfishness, Vistus instead has a quiet, soft spoken way of him. He listens, rather than boasts, and is considered the more intelligent of the offspring Galvis had. Vistus has studied various aspects of the War of the Magi, calling it his "Ale of the Mind" and dedicated to further unlocking the secrets of the ancients. A scholar and a non-violent man by nature, his disdain for the savages in Eorzea still lingers in his view of things. His relationship with his youngest sister is mellow, much as he is.
- Brother - Ventis Wir Saevios: Third son of the Saevios household under Galvis, Ventis died twelve summers young in an accident upon trying to complete his ascent to the title of "Nan", when his prototype aetherial amplifier malfunctioned, taking not only his life, but that of everybody within a few yalms of the facility he'd tested it in. A genius in magiteck engineering rivaling that of Cid Nan Garlond himself, the genius tinkerer was a bright, lighthearted lad with a penchant for gambling and taking things easy. While his siblings would find this nature to be his downfall, little were any aware that the amplifier had been sabotaged by an unknown individual. Velox will admit, if ever brought to such a point, that part of her died alongside him when fate took Ventis from the world.
- Sister - Valliatie Wir Saevios (Celtian): Eldest daughter of the Saevios line. Valliatie was groomed by her mother, back when she still lived, into becoming a perfect liaison and blood tie between their own family, and that of whoever best suited their interests. If Valliatie ever had any qualms on the matter, she never showed it, happily obeying Terra's commands until, finally, at the age of sixteen, she was married to the first son of the Celtian family; Alban Het Celtian. Her husband now the adviser to a small province in Ala Mhigo, Valliatie serves her new family in every way she is able--already after five years of marriage, she has borne three children to tie their roots together. The typical product of aristocratic, high-society breeding, Valliaite is far more concerned with the socio-political nature of the Garlean Empire, rather than the military aspects. If questioned of the relationship between them, Velox will often compare her sister to a sentient doll--beautiful, calm, flawless, and utterly devoid of personality or thought.
- " Fiancé "- Jovian Sas Noctun: A foul beast of a man nearly fifteen years her senior, Sas Noctun sought to claim Velox as his own for many a summer. Seeking out her father for a marriage since her inception into the Garlean Military, Jovian had been denied several times, claiming one day he'd change the Saevios house head's mind. However, it would be destiny that claimed Qeltius's thoughts (and life) on the matter, and not Noctun's poor attempts with charm. Offering a higher position to Valens in exchange for his consent, Jovian Sas Noctun was finally set upon claiming his prize...only to have said object outwit him and eventually cause his demise. Slimy and sinister, and bordering on the mentally insane, Noctun sees what he desires, and will destroy anything in his path to get it...even if it meant that very thing he sought to claim. Velox seems quite glad to be rid of the shackles of marriage to the man, remarking that he is as stable as an Auroch on stilts. She does note that, in spite of his disgusting mannerisms, that she was dismayed that a man of pure Garlean blood was condemned to death, lamenting that such a resource is worth keeping alive.
