"Naught a change to my spirit. Stubborn, I am."
Ser Deryck Ashildr de Farore is a stoic and introverted Ishgardian who was born within the walls of Ishgard on the 21st Sun of the 1st Astral Moon under his parents Artifort and Annabelle as the only child until his sister Ayleth was born making him the eldest sibling. When Deryck became of the age of 7 winters his father was caught speaking with a dragon and his family became condemned for heresy of the highest degree and was personally attacked by House Dzemael once they received clearance from Thordan. After a trying escape and sustaining a shattered life, Deryck tried to rebuild anew among the Dragons at Anyx Trine. The end result was a stoic man whose goals are conflicted and riddled with the pain of the past stoking the embers into the flames of revenge...

Deryck's outlook, however, has vastly changed since then and he is now a somewhat solitary and caring individual having grown through his struggles with the help of newfound family, friends, and allies. He now strives to ensure he is the best he can be for everyone he cares about... until he was betrayed.

Self Exiling from Eorzea, Deryck set his gaze to Othard to build upon a new foundation for a new life behind Imperial lines...

Drifters of Twilight

  • After his initial getaway from Ishgard due to numerous "War Crimes", Deryck finally found solace further south within the three city-states thanks to the Warrior of Light stealing the attention of Ishgard. Deryck attempted a somewhat normal life of adventuring until he crossed paths with Asah, an awkward Miqo'te, whom involved him with a group known as the Drifters of Twilight. Spending a few moons with them, Deryck formed a strong bond with each member... perhaps too much, especially in the case of Xanuthel. The pair remained off and on and was no secret to the rest of the Free Company, causing Asah to be heartbroken and finding love elsewhere. Alas, this split the Free Company apart and much to Deryck's inevitable wasted effort to try and mend things, he only worsened it... Xanuthel died of her curse and the group never reformed.

Futile Chase

  • Pursuing Xan, Deryck wound up in the eastern reaches of Eorzea where he crossed paths with a Lalafell named Sol Agrias that was able to freely amplify his weapons with magic. Initially they met on friendly terms until Deryck's chase came to a grinding halt and he lost sight of Xan after that. His fury unleashed and Sol was forced to fight him in an explosive battle. The fight ended when both combatants KO'd. Upon waking both were nursed back to health thanks to U'kayah Furyfist who happened to be traveling nearby when he heard explosions. Having little conversation with them Deryck left back to Ul'dah when he healed...

Lifelong Ties

  • Deryck met a Miqo'te named Kali who seemed to have an odd air about her. Hearing her story and getting to know her, Deryck offered her a place where he still calls home; Anyx Trine. Among his offers was teaching her how to better protect herself, make money from pelts, and hunting for food. She accepted them and the duo began to run into the past Deryck tried so hard to get away from. After numerous encounters Kali finally learned of Deryck's past, his sister Ayleth, and the horrors he faced in his day to day life. When faced with a Dzemael noble that aimed to kill Deryck, Kali convinced Ayleth to help him as his only family left and the trio defeated the noble. However Ayleth vanished soon after leaving the pair alone and relieved this struggle was put to a close.

Umbral Knights

  • Another moon passed before Deryck happened on another odd group known as the Umbral Knights; Ascian Hunters of some sort. The members were a rather colorful bunch and Deryck thought he found a new home among new friends. Although deep complications existed before his recruitment and things went quiet after the second mission... no activity since. Although Deryck learned some knowledge that might prove useful as well as testing his power against Artoria, something he almost regretted after he was lectured about how to unlock his true potential. His last known memory of the group was a beach party which only included himself, a psychopathic highlander, a lesbian miqo'te, and Artoria... He left them to seek out other adventures elsewhere.

Filler Arc

  • Deryck time and again crossed paths with several individuals with some acting odd, obnoxious, or end up being some voidsent... also meeting a group of pirates he hardly spoke with after a small issue. Various other misadventures occurred.

Mercenaries

  • Deryck set his eyes upon Nylesa Tou, a midlander that is similar to him in some respects which he was able to get along with her easily. After a couple of brief meetings Deryck was invited along to a birthday and meet the rest of the crazy family. He was amused by them and hoped he would chat with the group again. Some suns passed by as Deryck and Nylesa took care of simple jobs by the Grand Companies just to earn their keep until Nylesa became tainted by Blood Magic. With Nidhogg calling his final act of revenge Deryck was forced to leave for Ishgard...

End of the Song

  • Deryck became involved with Ishgard again when he heard Nidhogg was on the return to lay waste to his home. He of course charged out alone straight to Hraesvelgr to learn more about this impending doom. The dragon didn't say much and ignored Deryck's initial pleas to help him take down Nidhogg. It wasn't until the Warrior of Light convinced him sometime later. On Deryck's arrival to Ishgard to face Nidhogg he was quickly detained by Temple Knights... only to be freed by his sister who ordered the guards to allow her a chance to fight alongside him. It was sentimental but he knew his sister wanted personal gain from it.

Deryck facing Nidhogg who stands over the defeated Hraesvelgr
The duo quickly went to the front lines to meet up with the Warrior of Light, close friends, and numerous other adventurers to fight Nidhogg who has already felled Haersvelgr much to Deryck's horror and rage. The battle soon became heated when Nidhogg invited a few of his strongest minions and many tried desperately to fell them before Nidhogg would turn and wipe them all out. Many minions fell but so did many adventurers until eventually it was only the Warrior of Light, Deryck, Ayleth, and a handful of others. Nidhogg began changing into a more human form and began hammering the group with powerful blasts and swift strikes.

Deryck gaining energy
When all seemed lost and Nidhogg had won, Deryck stood and unleashed his full potential. A green aura hummed around him as his sister also stood by his side with a similar hue. They distracted Nidhogg long enough for everyone else to recover and rejoin the fight. Deryck and Ayleth were successful in forcing Nidhogg back into his dragon form in which he retaliated with a more fiery form that covered his scales. The group continued to fight Nidhogg to the bitter end with both sides suffering a serious beating. Eventually Nidhogg's exhaustion became obvious and Deryck readied the final blow. He summoned as much aether as he could into his palm and with further assistance with Ayleth he stored a monstrous amount of energy and both charged forward and struck Nidhogg right in the head. The stun was temporary as Deryck's aether formed into a mirror image of Hraesvelgr which opened its maw. With one more defiant cry from the siblings the aether roared and launched a massive fireball that exploded on impact. Many other adventurers followed up with their own powerful attacks and continued to beat Nidhogg down until the damage was enough to render Nidhogg back into a human form so the Warrior of Light could finally destroy the eyes.

Nidhogg's fury

Ayleth passed out from the immense energy needed but she had a tear and a smile. To Deryck he wondered if she was simply happy to be family again. He stared up at the sky as his aether exhaustion caught up to him and he slowly blacked out. A few short days pass as Deryck slowly recovers from the ordeal, closely watching over his sister who remained bed ridden. Eventually she recovers enough to leave her bed and the pair remain present within Ishgard during the creation of a Republic and Aymeric's new title as Azure Dragoon... With the flames of war over and all of his war crimes pardoned (Thanks to Ayleth's urging to Aymeric) Deryck decides to keep living out his days seeking whatever adventure he could find with his Sister Ayleth remaining home as a member of the Council.

Blood Roots

  • Deryck returned from Ishgard to find Nylesa alive and well but she was still infected with void taint. With no other option Seb and Castus offered two unique solutions that could cure Nylesa, but each came with high risks. Deryck on the other hand began search for a third alternative with no success. After a couple of short nights Deryck, Seb, Castus, Nylesa, and Madison discussed the next course of action until eventually they decided to do Seb's first and then Castus' if Seb's failed. The group makes haste to the Lost City of Amdapor where they are tested by the Elementals after curing Nylesa of her affliction. After a hard fought battle they wrap up this trouble and are ready to look forward... except for Seb who might never hear the end of it from Castus.

The Sigil of Seven

  • Deryck crossed paths with a Raen Au Ra that seemed fascinated in him for whatever reason. To get to the bottom of his curiosity he followed her to her company and fell into their ranks upon encountering other members. This could be the start of something... (Ongoing Arc)

Filler Arc

  • In much of Deryck's free time he becomes involved with several strange individuals simply due to his curiosity that needs to be fulfilled. Each person having their own unique issues that he will likely assist with as he knows them better.

He Never Died

  • In recent days Deryck caught wind of an individual who forced a glory suicide on himself but never returned to the lifestream and now returns to Eorzea to unleash his ruthless rage upon the populous. Quickly setting out, Deryck eventually finds the man terrorizing the northern areas of the Black Shroud and the duo quickly engage in combat. Raiden seemingly got the upper hand until Sol launched a fireball and U'kayah followed up with a hard punch. Deryck was relieved he had help and quickly learned Sol and U'kayah formed a two man team to take down criminals. Their conversation was cut short and the trio readied against more of Raiden's attacks before he fled the scene when he used a mudra to mask his escape. Deryck was invited by Sol and U'kayah shortly thereafter to help them formulate a plan to catch Raiden in which he agreed to track him. Several suns pass before U'kayah and Sol came looking for Deryck and unfortunately for them it seems he caused some damage himself. U'kayah eventually tracked Deryck within Gridania and tried to reason with him about a recent attack he committed in which Deryck gladly told him the full story. After a lecture from Sol, Deryck came to his senses and resumed the search for Raiden, eventually tracking him further north beyond Ishgard and high in the sky. Deryck dumped his recent issues behind and ascended to the Sea of Clouds with the duo which is where Raiden seemingly vanished. With nowhere else to go the group remained at Camp Cloudtop for the next couple of suns just biding their time.

Earth, Wind, Fire, and Lightning

  • Running errands around Camp Cloudtop and the nearby beast tribe, the trio finally catches word of Raiden occupying Nidhogg's old lair. Deryck assumed Hraesvelgr was in danger and he quickly made his way toward Churning Mists ahead of U'kayah and Sol. Arriving at the Aery, Deryck braved the crumbling tower and intense storms that swirled around him until eventually he became stuck halfway up and nearly cornered by numerous dragons that still occupied the warrens of this ruined place. Not wanting to use his aether Deryck was forced to fight them as any normal man would until U'kayah and Sol's timely arrival helped him fell all the creatures and clear the way out. Upon reaching the summit the Trio was met with Raiden who used the endless lightning in the area to power himself which allowed him to be more than a match for them. Near misses, close calls, and explosive force echoed throughout the Aery until eventually both sides were exhausted from fighting. Raiden sought escape until U'kayah overstepped Deryck and Sol and knocked Raiden clean out. With their crook in tow Sol thanked Deryck, but U'kayah remained silent thinking about the harm Deryck caused recently. He let the thought slip and gave Sol a nod when he got his attention and the duo left. Deryck remained in the Churning Mists afterward to meditate...

Notes
■ Deryck Farore is loosely based on his creator's physical appearance with a few changes.
Farore is a name taken from the Goddess of Courage from the Legend of Zelda series.
■ Deryck was originally supposed to be a more awkward and comedic character but the personality didn't fit the backstory which was later written into Sol Agrias.
■ Being from the age of seven and then growing up a warrior he somewhat mirrors Link from the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, who was but a boy put through an extensive journey to save the world.
■ Some of Deryck's powers mirror those of Natsu Dragneel's from Fairy Tail when strongly influenced by Blood of the Dragon and driven by fury.
■ Deryck's self-healing mimics that of Wolverine's from X-Men. However it has since been omitted from his abilities.
■ Deryck's Wind Aether abilities are similar to that of the Wind Primal, Garuda. This, however, became a gimmick to fit the name of Farore so may not be used as often.
Themes
■ Final Fantasy 14: Against the Wind/Coerthas Western Highlands (Deryck's Main Theme)
■ Xenoblade Chronicles: You Will Know Our Names (Deryck's Battle Theme)
■ Dark Souls 3: Soul of Cinder (Deryck's Aether Frenzy Battle Theme)
