Character

Overview

From a distance Dural is, for all intents and purposes, the atypical Ala Mhigan wanderer. Dark skinned, equally dark of hair, weather and time-worn, it's not until one draws near that the key differences can be noted. Easy to smile, often humming or whistling, his mood seems to weather life far more easily.

Physical appearance
((Draft))

Following in the sizable footsteps of his forbears, Dural strikes something of an imposing figure whether it be in armour or out, possessed of naturally darkened skin and sharp, clear blue eyes that peer from beneath a thick, heavy brow. Measuring in at a somewhat impressive 6' 5", naturally broad of shoulder, and weighing in at around 252 ponzes of considerable muscle, Durals figure is that of someone who has spent many a year labouring intensely. Thick upper arms knotted with broad muscle look to be in their element when hauling or swinging something large and weighty, whether it be an axe, pickaxe, or Miqo'te that agitated him too much. Said muscle continues across most of his beaten body, whether it be the taut mass across shoulders and neck, the flat slab of muscle mass that makes up his torso, or the resilient pillars that make up his legs, beaten into shape by just over a decade of travel on foot (Recent acquisition of a Chocobo just before the Calamity has done little to lessen this, Dural often being seen walking alongside the bird.).

At odds with the peak physical condition, there exists the distinct impression of being rather weather and time-worn. Dural's body features a number of criss-crossed scars, nearly all faded from the passing of time, hinting at a natural progression of skill over the years with very few wounds looking 'new'. The most persistant of the scarring coming in the form of several small-ish circular scars forming a rough, arcing line across his back - four in total, and each giving the appearance of scars that seem hesitant to ever truly fade, and perhaps look a mite too old to be healed via magical means.

Adorning the right side of his face sits a simple but striking tatoo, inked in a dark blue, spanning out in several arcing blades above and just beneath his eye, across his cheek, and down onto his jaw. Almost as if to balance out these marking, the left side of his face features two narrow grooves - yet more old scars, with one clipping across his nose, and the other crossing the corner of his lips.

Voice and speech
((Draft))

Possessing a depth and volume to match his size and bearing, Dural's voice rings out like the tolling of a sizable bell. Unlike said bell however, a sound which can be quite clear each peal, Dural's manner of speech can on occasion be something of a challenge to understand due to his frequent clipping of words. Thankfully, the careful, almost ponderous pacing of his speech tends to alleviate the issue.

Behavior and personality

Behavior
((Draft))

Loud and brash, Dural's been known to speak his mind in public regarding most matters, and not always in the most helpful or appropriate of manners. Restraint has been shown on occasion, often with the Highlander falling into a smiling silence, quite content to merely watch and listen to those about him until such a time as he has something to add. It's quite possible that the loud and brash personality is something of a tool or social mechanism, not that Dural would likely ever put much thought into such without being poked and prodded repeatedly, while having it pointed out.

It's rare to not see the Highlander fidgeting in some manner, either tossing pebbles, slowly turning a tankard around in his hands, or tapping his foot to some unknown tune in his head.

Personality
((TBW))

Combat

General

Armed
((Draft))

Dural's combat style shows a preference for great power and physicality. Armed with his preferred choice of weapon, the axe, his stance is that of a more aggressive warrior - legs spread wide, knees bent only slightly, so as to aid in movement but sacrifice little more in the way of height than the wide-footed stance already costs, with his axe resting horizontally just below chest height, and held firm with one hand low along the shaft while the other grips high along the body of the weapon.

His swings, while generally wide and heavy, very rarely send the shaft of the axe traveling too far from his body - Dural's aggression shows some restraint in this regard. While preferring to maintain the offensive, stepping forward with each swipe, chop, or thrust, it's rare to see the Highlander leave his guard open anymore. Naturally, there are exceptions, such as when finishing a wounded or off-balance foe - in such times, the axe is used to its full potential, both hands gripping no higher than halfway along the shaft and the swings becoming wide and wild, and perhaps enough to, say, split shields.

While on the defensive, Dural seems equally willing to absorb blows with person and the mixed layers of plate and padding, as he is to deflect or parry with the axe itself, quite content to rely on the adrenaline of the situation to carry him through any immediate pain or bruising.

Unarmed
((Draft))

Deprived of a weapon, the best description for Dural's combat style would be 'brawling'. There's an equally great physicality to the Hyur's "hand to hand", often using his entire body as a weapon, throwing himself bodily into a foe, or perhaps a knee. Or an elbow. Or his head. Oft times, even teeth have been brought to bear against whatever he happened to be facing down if the opportunity arose.
