Introduction
Jamaivaux Morrelle is an adventuring swordsman and monk, constantly seeking ways to improve his martial aptitude and his inner self. Originally hailing from Coerthas and a life of servitude, Jamaivaux currently calls Limsa Lominsa his home while seeking out further opportunities to test himself, do some good, and earn a little coin on the side. Working alongside his fellows, the Crystal Coeurls, has provided many chances to do just that.
Personality
Jamaivaux is generally a friendly, witty sort. While by no means a dedicated scholar, he enjoys literature and learning about the world around him and its past whenever able. Despite his preoccupation with the martial arts and the inner self, he quickly makes friends and can converse for hours with those around him given the opportunity. Granted the nickname "Jamie" by his close friends, he is also quick with a quip or a poem when the mood strikes him. Jamaivaux seldom speaks of his time alone aside from his studies and practice, and when asked prefers instead to deflect such questions with some interesting prompt regarding a different topic or a simple explanation without elaboration.
History
Upbringing
Born and raised in Coerthas, Jamaivaux is the product of the small Morrelle family, servitor to House Fortemps. Jamaivaux scrubbed his fair share of floors and filled more cups that one could count in his childhood, eventually earning a place in the Highlands as a squire to the warriors of House Fortemps. He benefited from the libraries and education afforded him by his environment, and in his free time either worked at some task geared towards self-improvement or another. Jamaivaux grew up with some basic knowledge of arms and armor, mostly learned during his time a squire to the guardsmen of House Fortemps, and though the basic martial practices appealed to him, it never seemed like quite enough to sate his curiosity about the martial path. Such a life was less than fulfilling to a young elezen surrounded by a war with dragons that he never asked for. Despite this, he kept his bearing and developed enough of a sense to keep himself from too much trouble. A particular aptitude that showed itself during his youthful days was that of cooking, which seemed to make as much sense to his hands as wielding a weapon or going through the maneuvers of practice stances.
The Garlean War
During the War and the ensuing Calamity, Jamaivaux listened with despairing interest at each bit of news regarding the war that reached his home. He wished that he could make a difference, that he could join the war and be something he was not, beyond the life of merely serving rather than acting on his own accord; and yet, it was not meant to be. The same morning he resolved to pack his belongings and forge out to join whoever would take him, the Calamity struck the land, and he knew fear, knew that his family and the House needed him most. Fear kept his feet firmly in place that day, and shame took its spot in his heart for many more afterwards.
Southward Bound
Finally, three years after Bahamut's wrath struck the armies of Eorzea and Garlemald alike, Jamaivaux formally severed his duties to House Fortemps and struck out south. Rumors of opportunity in Ul'dah rekindled the curious flame inside of him. Finally, a chance to make a name for himself and earn enough to pay for his own servants, for a change. Change, however, was slow in coming. Having always been rather adept with his fists in the few times self-defense became necessary, the Pugilists' Guild filled in much of what the Elezen's natural talent lacked. While adventuring about and earning gil as a bodyguard and sellsword, of sorts, he met a wandering Ala Mhigan who taught him that this talent for fighting was linked to an inner energy known as one's Chakra. The man, claiming to be a monk, agreed to teach Jamaivaux, and the Elezen found himself enthralled with the possibilities opened up the more he meditated and practiced. When his mastery of path's essentials came after months of study, he was sent out on his own again to make his own path. It was during his wanderings that he fell in with Heavenly Marigold, a scholar of some repute and adventurer-for-hire. Complementing her magical mastery with his martial prowess, Jamaivaux joined with her Free Company: The Crystal Coeurls. Being based out of Lima Lominsa, it was natural at the time for Jamaivaux to join the Maelstrom, and with some dedicated work on his part (and a good deal of experience throwing himself into the melees with other Grand Companies as an excuse to hone his skills), he soon reached the rank of a minor officer. His loyalty to the cause was unquestionable, though he tends to serve at his own leisure rather than a strict schedule. With new ties established, thus began anew Jamaivaux's mercenary and martial work in service of many clients such as the Sons of St. Coinach, the Ala Mhigan Resistance, and even the Kojin merchants of the Ruby Sea.
The Path Home and Beyond
Once he felt his time on the road had been spent well, Jamaivaux traveled back to Ishgard, taking the time to reconnect with his family and with the House he left behind, becoming a bodyguard for a time in the service of the Ishgardian nobility and using his mastery of the fist to overcome many foes unfamiliar with such techniques. Eventually, Jamaivaux met with another who had learned of the truths of martial mastery: one Risha Amariyo. Jamaivaux and Risha became fast friends, and she brought him to her teacher, an elder traveled only recently from Doma who sought to teach those pupils he deemed worthy—despite his apparent growing madness, or perhaps because of it. Jamaivaux quickly took to his lessons, improving alongside Risha until the two of them were competent enough for their master to pit them against experienced members of the Sekiseigumi. Though he has since made his way to the wandering life after gaining as much knowledge as he could from his latest teacher, Jamaivaux always sought to improve his mastery of the blade and fists, that he might better understand the mysteries therein.
