Noxaelius Avantine

Although he is a Miqo'te, he was named Noxaelius Avantine by the Duskwight Elezen family that adopted him, since they are not familiar with Miqo'te naming conventions. His name is usually shortened to Nox by people close to him, or people who simply do not want to pronounce a mouthful when addressing him.

Appearance

Noxaelius is a Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon with ebony skin of a slight blue hue. His almond-shaped eyes are a very light gold-tinged silver and his full height brings him to about 5'9". This young man has high cheekbones with sharper facial features, giving him a constant unimpressed, almost intimidating look. He sometimes wears his platinum-blond hair in different styles, although he tends to prefer his hair tied back and knotted in various braids most of the time. Thin, low-set eyebrows and a thin, straight, high nose bridge contribute to his natural, slightly unfriendly expression. He has a few scars across his face, showing that this Miqo'te has been through some rougher times.

Although he focuses on the more arcane aspects of combat, his body is lean and muscular due to rigorous physical training. Intricate designs etched with black ink snake across various parts of his body and his face, with his right arm completely covered in them. Several scars are also present on arms, chest, and torso.

This Miqo'te usually carries around a long, black staff with a dull red crystal formation on his back and a medium-sized axe hanging from the side of his belt. He often keeps the axe under an invisibility illusion that is broken once it leaves his belt, simply to maintain the element of surprise, in case he is ever ambushed or suddenly attacked. The axe is simply invisible, however, so it may still occasionally knock things over or hit someone if he's not careful.

When under his Duskwight Elezen illusion:

Noxaelius takes on the appearance of a greyish, slightly olive-skinned Duskwight Elezen with very angular, regal facial features that make him look as unfriendly as his natural appearance. His eyes remain the same color and a similar shape, although they longer and more slanted. His hair has a very similar shade to his skin, the only difference being a few tones lighter, and is quite straight with a moderate length - ending right above his shoulders. It is also rather wild, with light-blond streaks and more tufts at the back. The male's long, sharp ears stand out prominently through locks of hair.

His body type as an Elezen is actually quite similar to his body type as a Miqo'te, the only exception being the length of his body and limbs in general, since Elezen are naturally much taller than the feline race. Since he always longs to be taller as a Miqo'te, he fulfills this desire by making his Elezen illusion a towering 6'10", one of the tallest heights among the tall race. The same scars and tattoos appear on his Duskwight face and body, although the tattoo designs and placement are slightly different. He is quite fond of nice-looking armor and spent a lot of time creating some heavy armor in his illusion, although it is merely an illusion, so it doesn't have the properties of actual heavy armor.

Personality

Noxaelius has always been quite sure of his own capabilities as well as his appearance, leading him to become quite an arrogant person. However, he tends to keep the more extreme side of his arrogance to himself in public because he knows that it may not be well-received, so he merely appears to be confident. This side will often manifest publicly when he is in a heightened state of emotion, with people closer to him, or when he is inhibited. He is extremely fond of flirting with any decent-looking female, regardless of her relationship status. The male is also extraordinarily vain and not afraid to make comments about how great his appearance is (in his eyes).

He likes to make witty, sarcastic comments or "bully" (tease from moderate to extreme amounts) people who are close to him (or people who are just easy targets). The closer he is with someone, the harder he will tease them. He is particularly fond of teasing females over males, although he rarely makes vulgar comments unless the situation is appropriate. Despite finding enjoyment in "bullying" the people he cares about, however, he is very loyal and will always attempt to help out his friends and family during important events. His unfriendly and intimidating appearance matches his personality - however, he would still be willing to chat with a stranger if the topic interested him or wasn't a huge waste of his time.

This young man is generally selfish and his actions tend to revolve around things that would bring him personal benefit. Meaning, he would not help a stranger out if they were in trouble, even if their life was in danger, without any personal gain. If he acts nice to a stranger or group and helps them out for seemingly no reason, he most likely has an ulterior motive. He is very sly and not below accomplishing his goals in dishonorable ways. However, he usually has no interest in criminal activities because he finds having to deal with authorities annoying. Noxaelius is a strong believer in give and take, so if someone does him a large favor, he will strive to return it.

He can also tend to be sadistic and violent, finding no problem in permanently disfiguring someone or blowing buildings up. Of course, he only does these things to enemies, but he has no moral qualms. The male has probably indirectly killed a few people in his life, but has yet to murder someone in cold blood. He tends to have no control over his strength when he loses his temper.

Biography

Childhood

This Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te has never known his tribe or the ways of his race because he was adopted by a Duskwight Elezen family as an infant. Unfortunately, his adoptive parents are also clueless about his background because they merely found him placed behind a large boulder with a leaf over his body in the Shroud, as though he had been put there for protection. Therefore, Noxaelius was raised in the ways of the Duskwight Elezen despite not being from that race. However, he does not share the same racial animosity towards Wildwood Elezen .

Noxaelius had an interest in destruction at a very young age and discovered the existence of Black magic from books. He thus developed a desire to become a Black Mage and wield destructive arcane powers. However, he had no knowledge or experience of where to even begin, nor where to obtain a Black Mage Soul Stone, so he sought the tutelage of a retired Master Thaumaturge. The Master Thaumaturge was initially unwilling to take the child in as a disciple, but Noxaelius showed promise and used various ways to sway the mage's decision. The Master accepted him as a student under the condition that he will never search for Black magic.

The Master decided to test a theory he had about boosted elemental powers a few years after Noxaelius became a student. He threatened the Miqo'te to consume a live fire sprite or else he would lose his student position. Of course, Noxaelius was terrified but being deeply ambitious, he ate the fire sprite and fell into a coma for two weeks, nearly dying from the experience. Eventually, he recovered and the Master's theory was actually proven to be correct: consuming the sprite and magically bonding with it increased the person's affinity with that particular element. In turn, it also decreased their effectiveness with the opposing element. However, it is very dangerous and it seems to only work if the person originally already bonded well with that element. In Noxaelius's case, bonding with the sprite's magic made his body temperature permanently unnaturally high, so he does not easily get cold (even in Coerthas), and suffers from fevers during the summer.

Teenage

The young man suddenly disappeared from his home in East Shroud one day at the age of 17 and his whereabouts were unknown for six and a half years.

Present

He has recently briefly returned to East Shroud to visit his parents, before setting off once more. He has dropped his temporary Elezen illusion for reasons unknown. Significantly more tattoos and scars mar his visage as well as his body, indicating that he had gone through rough times during his leave. During his disappearance, he obtained a Black Mage Soul Stone, but currently only knows one combative Black magic spell, the other Black magic spells being support. Since he has only had access to some of the magic for about a year, he is not very good at the single destructive Black magic spell in his possession. One of his main goals is to learn more Black magic - preferably ones he can better attune with.

Combat Abilities

Fire magic is Noxaelius's forte, with lightning-based magic following close behind. Ice magic, on the other hand, he struggles with, since he did not put as much study into that element due to his Master believing that the ice element is rather useless, and is also naturally less effective with the element because of his consumption of a fire sprite. Unfortunately, the single combative Black magic spell he has knowledge of happens to be of the ice element, which is partially why he is having so much trouble with it. This Miqo'te is also proficient at illusion magic, since it was a part of his studies.

He is able to cast a basic fire spell without his staff, seemingly due to some of his jewelry. However, this spell is significantly weaker without being amplified by his staff. All the jewelry that he wears are actually replaceable crystal catalysts for storing reserve magic in. He also temporarily loses some of the vision in his left eye when casting a spell using Black magic (during the duration of the cast).

Noxaelius has some experience with wielding an axe because, although he devotes most of his studying time to magic, he believes that simply training the mind is not enough to protect oneself, so he also trains his body. Of course, his melee abilities do not measure up to a person who has studied melee as their main method of combat. This male is very confident in his magical combat abilities and hates to lose. If he does lose and his opponent acts appropriately, he will accept defeat but quietly fume to himself, staying in a bad mood for the rest of the day or night. He is always eager to battle because he believes that experience is the best teacher. He has not bothered to study any other type of combat and patches up his own wounds with magical items and medicine.

He rarely raises both eyebrows. ■ He spends more time smirking or smiling slyly than actually smiling. ■ Sometimes accidentally blows something up with fire when he loses his temper. ■ Tends to spill a lot of secrets in his drunken state. ■ The angrier he gets, the lower and more monotonous his voice goes. ■ Has a habit of taking unnecessary amounts of medication: for example, 6 pills for a headache when he only needs 2.

Miscellaneous

The illusion he casts on himself to appear as an Elezen is actually quite a complicated process. When he first began to create his illusion, he had to carefully use magic to craft every minute detail of the appearance he wanted into the spell. Once he was done creating the illusion, he also had to commit all the details to memory, in order to keep the spell up. The initial process took several hours, and it took him about half a year before he was able to comfortably keep up the illusion. This means that he cannot easily change the base appearance, and new clothing or accessories that are very complicated will require him a bit of time to incorporate. He uses a special glamour crystal to help alleviate the stress of the spell, so that he does not have to dedicate too much concentration to maintaining it.

How the spell works is that anyone seeing him or touching him will think that he is an Elezen, even if his projected appearance is taller than his actual physical height. However, because it is merely an illusion, his actual physical height is not extended, so he would be unable to reach something too high above him regardless of how tall he looks. Others would not know of his true appearance unless the illusion is lifted or broken in some way (or if the viewer perhaps has a special ability to counter such spells). The glamour crystal he uses will continue to project his illusion even if he is unconscious, but only for about two more hours. If he stays unconscious past that, or if he is too injured and/or fatigued to continue casting the spell upon wakening, the spell will be broken.

They had not kept in contact for many years due to Noxaelius's disappearance, and only met a while back when he saw her in the group of girls the pirate crew he was in had kidnapped to sell. He rescued her from the group and sent her back to her home. ● Estee Eyloiss : Noxaelius greatly dislikes this female Miqo'te because he considers her an annoying brat. However, she is Elsee's good friend, so he barely tolerates her. He sometimes likes to tell her the wrong things and enjoys watching her operate under misconceptions. He is also aware of her infatuation with him, but does not take it seriously because it is merely superficial. ● Caelia Salinas : This young woman somehow ended up living at Noxaelius's house through a series of events and seems to act almost as a housekeeper of sorts, continuously insisting that it's all to sleep in his comfy bed. Noxaelius has no idea why he even let her live there in the first place, but she takes care of a lot of minor things around the house. He loves to bully her to the point where bystanders often wonder why she even hangs around him.
