As a refugee from Ala Mhigo, Flynn was raised in Gridania from an early age. When he turned sixteen, Flynn set off to begin the life of an adventurer. Throughout the years he became proficient in all manner of weapons, including the bow, pole-arm, axe, swords, and even fist-fighting. Some of which he had training in living in Gridania. Now twenty-one years old, Flynn serves the realm as a travelling adventurer. Although he is married to another adventurer, Mackenzie Hawk, they are not always seen working together. Flynn earned the alias "Bladebreaker" during a skirmish with the Garlean Empire near the Ala Mhigan border, by disarming his opponent and breaking their gunblade, refusing to kill.
