Of the Dotharl clan, Khad was a warrior not unlike the rest of his sort: passionate, war-like, and bloodthirsty. His warband was led by his younger brother, a warrior of even greater might and ferocity, Khal. Khad and Khal, the sons of Goag; a respected warrior of the steppes and seen as a true Dotharl even among other warbands. The brothers were sworn to one another, not just by the blood of the womb, as they shared a mother and father; but the blood of the pact: the promise that they would ride to death to one another in toe; the promise that hangs over Khad to this day.

Khal was a young warleader, but he had the might to lead. Bigger and stronger than most, what Khal lacked in strategy, he deferred to his brother.

“The Ash Warrior”, “The Ghost of the Steppes”; Khad went by many names as the leader of rival warbands rightly feared him more than his aggressive brother. Khad never sought to lead or bring glory for himself; he gave these up to his brother. Khad had long lived in the shadow of his father, taking each day carefully, questioning what made a warrior. Khal lived carefree, dreaming big and bigger. Khad admired these dreams and did not care whose credit they came under, only that they were realized.

Respect among the Dotharl means little when being routed by Garleans. Khad stood with his brother and those who had sworn under the two. They fought, tearing through what they could, but the machines and technology was too much; made worse by the constant numbers.

Khad watched as his warband, his sworn family, was torn away and apart. Be it luck, destiny, or a curse, Khad survived. The warrior awoke hours later among flame and gore. He trudged away from the mass grave. This was no death for a Dotharl. This would not be the end of his brother’s warband. He had broken his vow to his brother, he would not further disgrace his father by dying outside of a real battle. He was found by other Dotharl shortly afterward, but they offered him little aid. They knew of him, but refused to put the glory they had heard of the “Ash Warrior” to such a pitiful sight. He was a ghost, a warrior who lost his chance to truly die. They gave him food and water, gave him a horse, but these things would not give Khad what he truly needed.

With no choice, he did like the rest and made for Ul’dah.

Appearance & Personality

Nature & Demeanor

Nature & Demeanor

Demeanor: Calm, composed, and stoic. Khad is a warrior who puts efficiency above all else. He has little use for frivolities and luxuries; utilitarian and minimalist at heart. He is with kindness at times, a stark contrast to others who ride with the "Dotharl" name, Khad is not quick to fight. He certainly does not blanch at the idea of violence, he merely is not interested in fighting anyone with the ability to speak ill to him. He tempers his anger with thought. That said, the warrior has been known to kill in egregious situations. Khad is a recent visitor to Garlean, having spent most of his time traveling and honing his skills, so Eorzean culture is still confusing to him. Still, he tries to embrace the new culture as best he can, sometimes at his own disadvantage.

Nature: Khad no longer believes violence to be the true contest of character, but action to be the highest mark of character. Words hold very little to him. To vow something and not follow through with it is the mark of the most despicable. Khad says exactly what he means and how he feels. He cares little for how others view him or the intricacies of social environments. This honesty would bring a certain loyalty in Eorzean culture: as those he sees as family and friends are those he will not allow to fall under harm. "Harm" is a broad term, as Khad's definition is lasting "harm". Scars, wounds, scratches, broken bones, etc. are fine, but any lasting effect such as killing or taking away function from a limb is what "harm" means in Khad's mind. That said, he might bring "harm" on those he cares about using another's interpretation, if the Dotharl feels it necessary.

Khad believes in honor, stronger than one might expect from a Dotharl. He lives his life by sincerity, loyalty, and strength. While he has many views, his basic lifestyle is boiled down in three tenants:

  • Words mean little, but what little they do offer should align with your actions. (Words are cheap, lying is for cowards and weaklings, yet, deceit on the battlefield through strategy (flanking, fake retreats, etc.) is acceptable)
  • Violence is a tool to cull the weak and destroy the wicked. To take action without fear is the mark of a warrior. (Killing and violence is acceptable, but action in any form is what one should strive for)
  • The land changes with the seasons, as should the warrior of these lands. Strive to understand the progressions while keeping the warrior inside intact. (Technology and culture changes, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. It is important to understand these changes, even if it belies the vision of what makes a Dotharl. A wide world view makes a warrior stronger)

Religion: Khad once respected the a form of shamanism that paid homage to the Steppes and his ancestors. Since he is away from these lands, he has found little way to observe this way of life. On Eorzea, he respects others religion as the closest he does is call upon fallen brothers and ways of life. A bleak note that he daily meditates on.

Notable Features

Notable Features

Common Appearance: The "Ash Warrior" is pale with white hair. Where his brother was of the largest of his kind, Khad has the height of his people. He is strong and powerful, but his greatest tool has always been his meticulous mind. What the warrior lacks in brute strength he makes up for in stone, stoic features. His image is that of a ghost among the battlefield, sliding through combat with precision and a cold efficiency. He is usually clad in armor and furs; depending on what the day calls for. He has little use for heirlooms and "blessed" weapons. His weapon changing to what is needed for the fight.

Scars & Markings: A life of war has awarded Khad with numerous scars. The worst are that on his back, where he was wounded during the fall of his warband. Scars run down from his shoulders to his legs like claws from a great beast, yet the wounds are too clean, the flesh rent clean from cold steel. His face boasts few scars in exception for a single cut running from his left temple to his jawline.

Abilities

Strengths

Strengths

Khad is fiercely strong and is trained with a number of weapons: axe and spear being his preferred means of combat. The warrior is exceptional with an axe, having two main methods: the style he and his brother learned: to charge in and grit your opponents' attacks in search of a killing blow, and the newer style he had learned on his travels: a more focused, meticulous style that put his energies on creating weakpoints in his opponents attacks. Khad views himself as a student of both and while he might lack the technicality of some masters of Eorzea, he makes up for it in his demeanor and efficiency as a Dotharl. Savagery always has its place on the battlefield.

Weaknesses

Weaknesses

Naïveté. Khad has no qualms with violence, but he is used to a different culture, so taking advantage of him can be done rather easily. That said, he is no fool and learns quickly after learning his lesson. He has been used before, but it is rare for a second time to occur for the swindlers. Khad also will believe a perceived friend even against evidence of the contrary. He is loyal until he sees "real proof".

Relations (NPC)

Relations (NPC)
Goag Dotharl ( ) - Father
Warrior and once-warlord, Khad's father died protecting his people slaying a great beast. Among those who knew him, he was seen as a true Dotharl and a warrior among warriors.
Khal Dotharl ( ) - Brother
Khad's brother was the very picture of Dotharl violence; what other clans would view Dotharl as. Lacking insight, intelligence, and letting his desires and wants push him. Of all that, he was loyal to a fault and Khad knew him as a an able clansman who showed no fear. Garleans killed him along with most of Khad's warband.

Overview
Khad met his wardancer on the streets of Ul'dah and was immediately impressed by her talent. His heart and adoration for her quickly grew as he sought to spend more and more time with her. Though of the Qalli tribe, Khad is quite taken with the woman. He first met her on "Little Ladies' Day" and due to many men choosing one of the three songbirds as their idols, Khad has decided he is her fan and is quick to admonish any other performer.
Overview
A warrior true to the Dotharl name. Khad greatly respects Toqto'a or "the loud one". He hopes he might ride out with him one day.
Overview
"Red" is a true Dotharl. Khad enjoys her presence and hopes that the two might one day share a ride, along with her sister. He has found himself enjoying the company of the two and is always happy to see the two, even if "Blue" can be a bit talkative.
Overview
"Blue". Khad knows little of Lunai other than a very heated argument she had about cooking. She seems to enjoy words, something Khad is against. That said, she is Solin's sister and bares the woman no ill. He hopes he might see a true Dotharl in her yet.
