Character

General

Altima is Miqote who migrated to Eorzea a few of years before the end of the 6th umbral era. She currently works as a freelance sellsword/mercenary for hire in Ul’dah to make ends meet. She is often seen doing various jobs for the residents of ul’dah and the local guard as a tracker and bounty hunter. Occasionally, she dabbles in immortal flames business as well and participates in skirmishes against invaders.

She often frequents Taverns, especially the quicksand, to relax and at the same time look for information for her missions.

Appearance

Altima is a Seeker of the sun Miqo'te. One would always see Altima clad in some sort of battle garb. She is quite the slender miqo'te when out of armor. Altima also has purple eyes, one of which was blinded after getting hit with a battlefield-wide attack during the battle of Carteneau. Luckily upon her rescue, they managed to do a quick procedure to repair it and she regained her eyesight back but the procedure wasn't fully successful as her right eye has become discolored with a slight glow to it. Most people call the eye ominous as no one in Eorzea has ever heard of a spell to revive a dead eye. Altima wears an eyepatch from time to time to keep the residents from feeling uneasy.

Behavior

She is generally quiet and friendly around strangers due to the nature of her work. It does take a while to garner her complete trust. Sellswords earn their share of enemies and she has definitely made some along the way. However, once a bond is formed she can be quite chatty and loud towards those that would interact with her.

She does talk in a dignified manner, possibly due to her former standing in her home country.

Combat

General

She is somewhat proficient in many combat styles and weapons as her training was based on the idea that by using a certain weapon, one learns the nuances, advantages and disadvantages that it brings. However, she has a strong preference for openhanded combat, axes and polearms. She's also seen to have high affinity with thaumaturgy.

History/Timeline

Altima hailed from a small hyur town on a certain continent to the west. She was a war orphan from a campaign that lasted a number of years between 2 warring kingdoms. Altima was eventually picked up at a very young age by a modest Hyur couple who ran a local blacksmith. The couple raised her like their own child. Thus, she is unaware of Miqote customs and embraces Hyur culture more than anything else. It was also them that gave her the name Altima, a name originating from a legend of the holy angel Ultima who guided souls to heaven and aiding in their reincarnation, in hopes that she would receive the angel’s guidance and blessing.

She lived a simple life helping her adoptive hyur family with the family business until the frontlines of the war reached the town that she lived in. Her town was ultimately raided and razed and her adoptive parents were slain protecting her. She was then taken in by a Altessia Shadebreaker, a noblewoman/knight who happened to be a close family friend. Growing up inside the Noble’s manse, she learned the ways of chivalry and eventually became a faux noble. Upon reaching her teens, she was told to start training in the arts of openhanded combat for self-defense and discipline. It was then that she realized her passion for fighting and convinced her adoptive mother to let her join the knights corps. It was inevitable since all members of the shadebreaker Family were raised into knighthood. She had a knack for it and breezed through all the trials and lessons at a very rapid pace.

Upon graduating the academy, she was sent into various battlefields and had moderate success throughout her career. When the war ended, tragedy befell the nobles of the land. Infighting between nobles became a rampant problem and various houses wanted to claim the throne for themselves. Eventually, her adoptive mother had passed away for reasons unknown. Some say that she was assassinated as she had considerable support and was marked a threat. her relatives who had not considered her to be a “real member of the family” had decided to cast her aside unless she would live the life of a common servant and obey their commands.

Disgusted, She left behind the Shadebreaker name and gave herself the surname Zeroblade. (A sword that begins from nothing) She then decided to forge her own path in life as a common sellsword while keeping in mind the values that her mother Altessia cherished. Lost and alone, she encountered a strange man who talked about special stones called auracites that could grant any wish and bestowed upon her the knowledge of where to find them. After learning more about this, she said her goodbyes to her homeland and left for Eorzea where a few of the stones were supposed to be located.

Upon landing in Uldah, she set up shop but had initial trouble living there. The People of Ul'dah were crafty and would trick her out of her money with false leads. Eventually she signed up with the immortal flames as a part of a reserve unit to earn more money to continue her search. She participated in multiple skirmishes against the Garleans. However, with each dead end she encountered, her resolve wavered and she had wished to go back home. She decided to help the immortal flames with one last mission before returning to her homeland. This was the battle of Carnteneau

Altima was assigned to one of the flanking groups so she did not experience much combat However, It was there that she and her unit got hit with an area wide attack by Bahamut almost killing her and costing her eyesight from her right eye.. Half dead and half blinded, she watched bahamut as he razed the entire battlefield and waited for her life to end until, fortunately, passerby had restored her health and her eye using a strange technique/spell. Before she could have the chance to thank the person, Louisioux had initiated the transportation spells to save the adventurers participating in the battle and started to fade out of existence. During that time, out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimpse of what seemed to be a necklace carrying a familiar stone worn by the traveller.

5 years passed and she emerged just outside of Camp Drybone. Upon realizing that the stones do actually exists, she decides to stay in Eorzea to continue her search for it. Up to now she visits ruins, villages and does missions related to ancient civilizations in hopes of finding the stones.

Relationships

Family

While she has no recollection of the Miqote family that gave birth to her. Most of the people she considers her real family has passed away or has already cast her aside.

Friends

Ryudo Cross – One of the first adventurers that Altima met in Eorzea during the 6th umbral era. A true swordsman at heart and an excellent Paladin, one that definitely rivals many within the ranks of the Sultansworn. Generally nice and helpful but sometimes hard to find. It's rumored that he goes on long journeys in between missions to taste local flavor instead of cheap Ul'dahn imitations.

Unlike Altima who learns every weapon in order to counter them. He chooses to focus solely on the sword to fully master it. While clashing with Altima on spars. She notices that the swordsmanship is almost flawless but there seems to be some hesitation to the movements. Perhaps, Ryudo feels that the sword and shield isn't his true calling which made Altima take up the axe instead of relying on her fists.

Originally called Raizel Sundering, he took on a different identity after emerging from the rift for reasons unknown. Upon emerging from the rift and meeting up with Altima, they become adventuring buddies again on their journey to find the stones.

Nanael Seregon – A feisty and sarcastic Seeker of the sun that Altima encounters during the 7th umbral era. A very capable conjurer and white mage who isn't afraid to fight in the front lines. Her aggressive and somewhat impatient nature lets her jump in the fight herself while healing her party members. She has an extremely high affinity to the holy magics which is often displayed by her constantly releasing bursts of holy magic against her foes. Sometimes, she does go overboard and ends up almost giving Ryudo heart attacks during their journey.

Her main goal in this journey is unknown but one thing is clear. Deep within that sarcastic shell, there is a will to get herself stronger, leading Altima to believe that there is something for her to gain in the Allagan ruins that they explore.

She also has a talent for playing musical instruments and is essentially the party's bard.

Jaestin Shadebreaker - A hyur Midlander from the same noble family that cast aside Altima. A close friend of Altima when she was studying in the academy. Right after the war, he had left for Eorzea to look for a legendary blacksmith in Ishgard. Unfortunately for him, he got caught up in ishgardian politics and got involved in tracking down a rogue ishardian lancer, eventually bestowing upon him the power of the dragoon. Altima and Jaestin met and journeyed together for a short time. They both parted ways before the end of the 6th umbral era and he has not been seen since. people believed that he had gone back to his homeland although rumors of his sightings have come to Altima’s Attention from time to time.

Altima bears no ill-will to Jaestin as he is one of her closest friends when they were growing up. He would always visit her family’s smithy when he was young and was a frequent customer as well. He was also completely unaware of all the events that had happened to the house and was unable to defend Altima.

In terms of combat, Altima has yet to win a single time. Jaestin is an accomplished spearman who was said to be the hero of the three kings gate while Altima had moderate experience in combat. Whether his skill was superior to hers or she was always unconsciously holding back, no one knows which is the better fighter.

Enemies

Altima does not have anyone so far the she could call an enemy. She may hold some lingering disgust to other members of the Shadebreaker family. However, throughout her travels and jobs she would have made several that she has not heard of yet.
