Appearance & Personality
Long and lithe, Anu'ra's body holds the hue of a clouded moon. That paled grey is framed by the soft white of his hair, holding faint undertones of blue. He paints his face most often in lavender, drawing upon the intensity of his moonlit eyes. His fingers are long, with abnormally short nails for a miqo'te- clipped intentionally. He has a fondness of pale blues, but finds himself mostly dressing in dark shades accented by sharper colors. He is most comfortable in a lancer's armor, but privately enjoys the compression of tight leathers of minimal coverage.
Still adjusting to the world outside the tribe, Anu'ra struggles between his desire to 'do as the Romans do' and retain his clans expectations. He is keenly curious of people in general, content to observe the actions of passing patrons of various establishments, captivated by the variety of their individuality and freedom. Anu'ra is a social soul, whose initial reserve evaporates shortly amid conversation. He is an optimist, striving to the see the logic of every opinion, even if it varies from his own. Acts of prejudice, injustice and belittlement are quick to heat his anger.
Biography
Childhood
- A fifth son born to a matriarch without successor, who was never again to conceive, the Anunnaki had found themselves at a crossroads. Had Menphina removed her love from them, that no daughter had been born for succession? Anu'ra grew in the midst of the clans decline. Rumors spread of the Anunnaki's misfortune, ebbing the desire for trade and kinship from other neighboring tribes. Perhaps because his birth seemed to herald this, Anu'ra would never receive much of his mothers affection.
Neither embraced nor rejected by the tribes majority, Anu'ra was left to his own amusements, always hopeful that the next morn might bring a visit from one of his nomadic brothers. Each of the eldest three would share with Anu'ra their knowledge, and he devoured the attention. Anu'to guided his hand in gathering, tracking, and living off the land. Anu'li taught how to craft weapons and build shelter, but from Anu'a he learned how to wield the lance, and these visits were secretly his favorite.
Adolescence
- With little care given to his activities, Anu'ra found himself free to explore the vast forests of the Twelves-wood. Observing the people of Gridania became a favored pastime, and it was during one of these curious surveys that he became captivated by a young Elezen archer. Initially brief interactions became planned excursions, and even after an ugly skirmish (which resulted in the loss of the Elezens keen sight) the pair remained fixed in each-others lives. During the time spent in his company, Anu'ra's head was filled with tales of Ishgard, from which the boy hailed. Stories of chivalry, high-houses and Dravanian hordes defeated in epic battles by legendary Dragoons. These tales filled the young miqo'te with dreams of attaining such status, living among the clouds in the Holy See.Forever to be held as the happiest days of his youth, the boy left without warning, leaving Anu'ra with a preserved rosebud of Haillenarte. And so their summer was to end.
The Calamity claimed the lives of many in Eorzea, members of the Anunnaki among them. With the first three sons of Anu now dead and the fourth found sterile, Anu'ra was left the only continuation for the matriarchs bloodline. Anu'ra's world turned over. No longer was he the latch-key child of the tribe, free to roam as he wished. The expectations of his mother, tribal elders, and the clan as a group were weighted atop his shoulders. For the Anunnaki to continue their matriarchy, Anu'ra would be united to a suitable female, whose firstborn daughter would lead the tribe. He felt shackled, crunched. For the next five years Anu'ra struggled to adapt to his new role within his world, but dreams of what lay beyond and the boy who taught him so, never left his heart.
Present-day
- On a rainy spring day of the Third Umbral Moon, Anu'ra caught a glimpse of deja vu. On the outskirts of the North Shroud stood an Elezen man, bow at aim, eyes searching for the glint of a target in rainfall. For the better part of this practice Anu'ra watched him, trailed him, called out when the man had enough of his shadow. In days that followed, Vaudemont Lavandeire persuaded Anu'ra into accepting a short trip outside the Shroud and into the city of Ul'dah, from which he has yet to return.
Traveling with Vaudemont, a self-appointed voidslayer of dark arts, Anu'ra came to travel across the majority of Eorzea while aiding in the mage's work. Life away from the Anunnaki, both liberating and frighting, allowed for Anu'ra opportunity to explore himself. Residing often in Dragonhead, the fantastical image of Ishgard stored in childhood memories became grounded. The reality of Ishgard was far from his dreams. Its people were struggling, shout out of the city to survive in bitter cold and bloody war. The majority of the populace, caught in fear and xenophobia, looked at him with dismissal or disgust. Quickly, Anu'ra understood that any hope to reach the mantle of Dragoon would be bleak. He works as a lancer, aiding in small tasks of those residents whose trust he has earned and in the endless Dravanian attacks around Coerthas settlements, clutching small hope that he might one day be given the chance to prove he has a Dragoon's worth.
