In the Beginning - Aoi was born and raised in the underwater village of Sui-no-Sato in the Ruby Sea. Sheltered from the world by the choice of her leaders, the young child craved knowledge and often looked to the surface to find it. Disobeying her parents several times, she would sneak out in the middle of the night in hopes of making trades with the Confederacy for books or other items that they may have taken from ships unable to pay the Ruby Tithe. One day they made and offer the young Raen could not refuse; a trip to Kugane. Without hesitation, Aoi took the offer which took nearly a moon to complete as they wished to be paid in Pearls from the Deep. Once she was able to pay the full amount of their request they allowed her to hitch a ride on a passing vessel heading back to the main port. Once there, Aoi was beyond flabbergasted at the world she was ready to take on. While her early life in Kugane was rough, she took on small jobs to try and keep food in her stomach as she was determined to make it work. After taking a small job to help build combat dummies for the Sekiseigumi. While there she was greeted by a member of the Geomancer Guild and offered a job as an apprentice with the Guild. There she would clean, handle laundry, learn about Geomancy and the Star they call home. She would remain an apprentice with the Guild until her Mid-late 20's before stepping back out in to the world to seek out further knowledge.

Welcome to Eorzea - Free to roam Kugane, the ever inquisitive Raen began to notice a rather odd influx of foreigners coming to port. To her, they were strange, under-dressed, and many of them just savages who only wanted to find themselves a good time. Yet, a few caught her eye as educated and polite. Those that did often became her target of questioning as her thirst for knowledge was never ending. Her guild took notice that the small Raen was still alive as ever and always was in the pursuit of knowledge and wanted to help. They offered to help pay her way to Eorzea where new adventures awaited and knowledge untold. Without a second thought Aoi was quick to take up the offer and made the long journey west to a land she knew nothing about.
