Seeing Catherine in public, one would easily mistake her for a teacher or an alchemist. Often wearing a garb of dark green fabric or white linen, it would be easy to not even see her at all while in the masses of cities such as Gridania. Around her waist is a small bag which is labelled with the emblem of the Twin Adder and through which an observant eye would notice that many small vials and bandages are contained inside. On her back Catherine often carries a staff which is fashioned from a tree branch and the head of a sunflower. As for Catherine herself, it appears she has quite a pale complexion which is futher complemented with dark grey hair. Although it doesn’t look out of place, those close to her would know that she used to have dark brown hair and that the hair lost its colour due to unnatural causes. Her looks as a ‘grey mouse’ are further complemented by a pair of old-fashioned glasses resting on her nose though she can be considered quite tall for a regular Hyur giving her a somewhat imposing stature towards folks of shorter height.

Seeing Catherine in public, one would easily mistake her for a teacher or an alchemist. Often wearing a cobbled together garb of various colours, it would be easy to not even see her at all while in the masses of cities such as Limsa Lominsa. Around her waist is a small leather shoulder bag through which an observant eye would notice that many small vials and bandages are contained inside. Furthermore she also carries short sword which seems close to a rapier but with slightly more weight behind it, seemingly for self-protection. Her complexion is quite pale for someone lurking about La Noscea and she looks a bit like a 'grey-mouse' or 'booky' due to her 'traditionally' styled glasses giving her an air of 'learned superiority'. Finally, she is rather tall for a Hyur, and she easily towers over smaller Miqo'te and shorter Hyur.

Catherine’s personality appears to be quite reserved. While in her role as a mender for  the Twin Adder (or whatever Free Company that decided to hire her), she appears to be very kind towards her patients and can never been seen acting rude towards them. When not dealing with patients she can also be considered reserved but more in a somewhat ‘lecturing’ way. In the way she talks, Catherine can be considered (and she obviously –wants- to be considered) as a woman that has a wealth of life experience within her. When ‘young ones’ are impulsive or angered quickly, she is often keen to point out that the young ones are indeed young and should mind their manners. During these moments she can be considered quite cold and when she is in a particularly foul mood she can come across as arrogant.  And for all the moments where she is kind or perhaps arrogant, there remains an air of doubt around her and can often be seen sighing while looking at places of magnificence or great importance in books, drawings or in person. There seems to be a hint of disappointment within herself of which only a few can unravel what she is actually disappointed about.

In the following years, Catherine was trained in the Conjurer’s Guild to become a skilled Conjurer. Although she certainly wasn’t the very best, she became a respected Mender and travelled throughout Gridania with the Twin Adder’s to aid those in need whenever and wherever she could.

In the following years it almost seemed destined that Catherine was going to become a respectful member of the Twin Adders as soon as she would reach adulthood.

As Catherine turned into her twenties, some feeling of boredom started to creep over her. Although she was respected, loved and enjoyed her work, Catherine felt ‘trapped’ in the Twin Adders. It was as if she felt guilty if she ever leaved Gridania as the guild and the Adders had taught her everything she knew and it was indeed so that she was often lectured about even having the mere idea of wanting to leave and wander the world on her own. And thus she slowly started to descent into finding and reading about arts thoroughly forbidden in the Conjurer’s Guild. She especially started to take note and interest regarding the tales from the lost cities of Amdapor and Mhach and how it’s people survived after the Sixth Umbral calamity. She sought out books and artifacts from these places wherever she could find them but these items didn’t come cheap. And thus, Catherine turned to organised crime.

While staying in Gridania and its less savoury parts, she overheard rumours of a Gil Counterfeiting Ring being organised by a group of skilled Conjurers. Although this was obviously a dangerous endeavour, Catherine decided that she –needed- the Gil extremely badly and that just about everything was fair game to get it. As such, Catherine sought out the members of the ring, eventually finding the Miqo’te [[Kisha Taluun]] who was the leader of the ring at that time. Catherine eventually won the trust of the Counterfeiting Ring and started to aid them in the creation of fake Gil. Although these few years proved to be –extremely- profitable for Catherine, the ‘game’ was eventually discovered by the Adders and all the ring’s members were arrested and persecuted. Although the leader of the ring was given lashes and two years of servitude, Catherine received a sentence of one year in prison as the Adders also found out that she had been looking into black magic and was classified as ‘dangerous’.

After the Calamity, the Adders deemed it important to use every resource they had at their disposal, including former criminals. Catherine, although quite weakened due to having spent the last few months in a cave, was also released and immediately given a task to undertake with various other former criminals. The Calamity had caused the appearance of several Voidsent around the Black Shroud and Catherine and her group was tasked to take one out.
+
Exiled from her homeland, Catherine turned to travelling to the other city states. First she remained in Ul'dah, turning to aiding the refugees from Ala'Mhigo and running a small but respected herbalist shop. Though the income was meagre, it was still enough to be able to lend more books from the library of Ul'dah and continue her studies into Mhach and Amdapor. Though she wasn't an active member, living in close proximity to the Gladiator's Guild also allowed her to easily take fencing lessons on the cheap, further developing herself as she continued onto the path of the Red Mages.

The group came ill prepared and although they took out the Voidsent, many of them were killed and it also left Catherine severely weakened due to tapping into her Aether reserves to the extreme. This is also what caused her hair to dark grey. In the following months, Catherine slowly recovered and started to return to her old duties as a member of the Twin Adder and the Conjurer’s Guild. Her outlook on life had taken it’s toll though and instead of looking for more information regarding forbidden arts, she tapped everything she had in keeping the Adder’s happy for she did not want to be locked in prison once again. Eventually, the Adder’s were satisfied with Catherine’s progress and a number of years later decided to pardon her for her former crimes and cleaned her criminal record.
+
Although Catherine's life cobbled on like a gentle stream as she held her shop, the world itself had other plans. With the Calamity laying waste to many parts of Thanalan and Ul'dah Catherine herself didn't come out without scars either receiving multiple injuries due to flying debris, putting her out of commission for several weeks as she tended to broken bones and flesh wounds. With her shop also laying in ruins, Catherine decided now was the time to move on. After being sufficiently recovered, she travelled onward to La Noscea, looking for new opportunities.

Although Catherine had sworn off looking into forbidden magics, she did read further into the history of the Amdapor and Mhach in the years since her release from prison. It was through study that she learned about the unique art of the Red or Crimson Mage that the survivors of the Sixth Calamity used to survive the harsh times across Eorzea. As such, she started to train herself in the art of fencing for this was something she was at least allowed to do without raising suspicion within the Adder’s once more.

Arriving in La Noscea, Catherine first attempted to relaunch her herb and alchemical shop but soon found that competition was fierce. With the Maelstrom being hit particularly hard by the Calamity and enlisting any able bodied 'sane being', Catherine rose to the competition and enlisted.

Once Catherine was pardoned, she immediately requested an indefinite amount of leave time which was granted as she had told the Adder’s she was going to be visiting her family. In truth, Catherine decided to devote her time to reading old texts in various libraries across Eorzea to also learn of the actual magical abilities of the Red Mage which meant she had to learn in part the ways of a Thaumaturge. This proved to be extremely difficult financially as the past few years had left her financially unstable, being more focused on pleasing the Adder’s than actually making any Gil.
+
What followed were the most battle-scarred years of her life where she served on several ships as a Mender and regular Deckhand. Although she has seen many corners of the world, she doesn't seem very keen on 'boasting' about her accomplishments and thus potential friends will need to pull the information out of her.

It was with this realisation that she decided to try something entirely new: Making herself available for hire as a trusty Mender for a Free Company. Following a moon of chasing leads across Eorzea, she finally found herself a position within the Sunny Sea Side Salvage Company based in Limsa Lominsa where she currently serves as one of the company’s menders. And so the story continues..

Catherine's career entered a different phase as she was part of the regiments which were send to Ala Mhigo to aid in the liberation campaign against the Empire. This allowed her to be as close to Mhach and Amdapor as possible and with her now considerable wealth of knowledge meant that she could perfect her trade further. Though her colleagues were rather surprised by her newly found strength and some rather concerned, the complaints soon fell silent as she served through the Ala Mhigo campaign with flying colours, using her powers to both defeat many Garleans in close-quarters combat as well as applying emergency first-aid to her injured comrades. Following the conclusion of the campaign, Catherine returned with her regiment back to Limsa Lominsa where she heard she would be transferred to an elite regiment. And thus a new journey began...

Appearance and Personality

She appears to be very kind towards her peers and can never been seen acting rude towards them. When not dealing with patients she can also be considered reserved but more in a somewhat ‘lecturing’ way.

6th Astral Era - 1550 to 1565 – The Early Years

Catherine was born 29 years ago as the only daughter of a pair of regular hard working carpenters in the city of Gridania. Although the family had their home in Gridania, most of the time during Catherine’s early life was spent in Quarrymill as this is where the family made their living as woodworkers and carpenters. Catherine had many nieces and nephews but no brothers or sisters as complications during the birth caused Catherine’s mother to remain cripple throughout the rest of her life.

When Catherine turned seven, she was expected to start aiding the family in their work. However, during her first few weeks helping her family by gathering branches and small pieces of wood, she was often encircled by dark Sylphs who were fond of bullying her. Although Catherine’s father often chased them away, they always came back. On a particularly rainy day, Catherine got separated from her family and once again was encircled by hateful Sylphs who wanted to pinch her with sharp sticks. It was at this moment that Catherine discovered the magic contained within her and caused the sylphs to be turned into stone for a few brief moments. When the Wood Wailers came to find Catherine, drenched in a ditch and in a frightened state, she told them what had happened and the Wailers were quick to ascertain that Catherine should receive aid from the Conjurer’s Guild. Although her family was thoroughly unhappy to see her go, Catherine saw this as a new adventure.

In the following years it almost seemed destined that Catherine was going to become a respectful member of the Twin Adders as soon as she would reach adulthood.

6th Astral Era - 1565 to 1570 – Falling From Grace

As Catherine turned into her teens, some feeling of boredom started to creep over her further coupled with a sheltered upbringing and reaching puberty. Although she was respected, loved and enjoyed her work, Catherine felt ‘trapped’ in the Conjurer's Guild. It was as if she felt guilty if she ever leaved Gridania and the Conjurer's Guild as they had taught her almost all the skills she had. She was often lectured about even having the mere idea of wanting to leave and wander the world on her own. And thus she slowly started to descent into finding and reading about arts thoroughly forbidden in the Conjurer’s Guild. She especially started to take note and interest regarding the tales from the lost cities of Amdapor and Mhach and how it’s people survived after the Sixth Umbral calamity with the aid of the Red Mage heroes. Although the leader of the ring was given lashes and two years of servitude, Catherine was more fortunate. Now at the age of 16, she was still considered a child and thus only received a light punishment: Exile for five years.

6th Astral Era - 1570 to 7th Umbral Era 2 – Keeping The Head Down

Exiled from her homeland, Catherine turned to travelling to the other city states. With her shop also laying in ruins, Catherine decided now was the time to move on. After being sufficiently recovered, she travelled onward to La Noscea, looking for new opportunities.

7th Umbral Era - 2 and onwards – Crimson Beckons

Arriving in La Noscea, Catherine first attempted to relaunch her herb and alchemical shop but soon found that competition was fierce. With the Maelstrom being hit particularly hard by the Calamity and enlisting any able bodied 'sane being', Catherine rose to the competition and enlisted.

What followed were the most battle-scarred years of her life where she served on several ships as a Mender and regular Deckhand.
