[edit]
Tall, even among Elezen, Etrant projects a confident and approachable aura. He lacks much of the stern and stiff demeanor that characterizes the bulk of his brethren, but at times will betray himself with smug arrogance. Etrant is a capable metalworker, peddling 'superior and exotic Ishgardian steel' for to keep himself afloat. He has an eye for experimentation and regularly seeks out examples of more exotic or peculiar weapons and armor to test out their advantages and shortcomings in an ever evolving effort to figure out the best equipment for any given situation. Though Etrant is hardly a master, he has working martial knowledge with what might be considered 'Knightly' weapons common in Ishgard, and would be described as a proficient swordsman and passable with greatswords, lances, and battle-axes. Hardly bound by tradition, Etrant has moved his focus towards the future and has begun tinkering with the most basic arts of gunsmithing and shell crafting, though progress is slow and largely theory due to lack of suitable facilities.
Etrant towers at the highest end of Eorzea's spectrum, just shy of the largest Roegadyn, and has the bumped his head on doorframes more than he could count. His hair is naturally a dark chestnut color, kept clean and mid-length, out of his eyes. His face sports high cheekbones and a strong chin, covered in a roughly trimmed beard that lightens in color as it grows out to an uncommon reddish. His ears are near as long as he is, spread out far to either side of his head and coming to sharp points. Moving down, he has a smith's physique, rather muscled and showing signs of past nicks and burns up and down his body from mishaps. His nails are kept clean, and show signs of fidgeting and picking-- with his left thumbnail appearing quite damaged from a hammer strike. He typically wears plain clothes in darker, earthier tones, and has no particular interest in jewelry or mementos apart from a pocket watch.
At a glance
Etrant has a kind soul and a forward-thinking mind. He believes strongly in egalitarian ideals, to a fault-- he'll forgive the truly wicked, regarding their transgressions as the product of their environment rather than their being. He is persistent and tenacious in pursuit of the novel, while rushed and imprecise with what bores him. He has a penchant for overthinking problems that often leads him to tackle problems from the most difficult angle first.
Etrant has minimal regard for tradition as it relates to authority, though he will respect culture within limits. Politically, he slants anarchic and believes the needs and will of the collective overshadow the desires of the wealthy or noble. He is quick to denounce structures of power, while rarely giving heed to the good the groups or leaders may do. While he strongly believes in charity and giving of onesself for others, he also quietly feels that to need as much is a sign of weakness, and tends to refuse aid. He possesses a certain awareness of his hypocrisies, and tries not to dwell on them.
