Basic Info

"You may not understand, I'm not like the others." —Haila

Haila is a former midlander, victim to a Slave Trading organization during one of her jobs, she was turned into an Au Ra by a strange concoction. Due to her past and extreme change in her body, she suffers from an extreme aether sickness caused during the Calamity. She is quite often reserved, and soft spoken, a summoner who tends to believe her trade is still not seen well and often hides her magic abilities, trading them for any weapon that may be enough to defend herself as much as possible when wandering the realm. Once a respected young soldier for the Maelstrom, she now seeks to avoid any contact with them while avoiding most social interactions with anyone unless neccesary, despite having just a handfull of friends, she remembers fondly most of those that she has met during her travels, as she has reassumed her works with the Nebulous Free Company.

Appearance

Height: 5 Fulms, 2 Ilms

Weight: 115 Ponze

Complexion: Slim complexion, she seems frail at first sight, yet the way she moves prove that there is more than the eye can see.

Hair: Black with some lighter strands due to her constant sickness.

Eyes: Her left eye is red, a strange trait possibly acquired during the calamity, whereas her right eye remains blue.

Particular Traits: None although she used to have two white tattoos under each eye respectively as a midlander.

Voice: Quite soft spoken, yet makes emphasis on some vowels, making it sound somewhat British.

Clothing Style: Long sleeved shirts if the weather allows it, if not, mostly vests with shorts. She wears long boots almost all the time too.

Goals

Pretty much like any other being, she just wishes to live a normal peacefull life, probably as a crafter but not before adventuring a bit more while she's still young.

Religion

She did not posses a specfic religion per her arrival in Ul'dah, yet thanks to her Keeper friend she is somehow starting to rely on Menphina or the Twelve for her prayers.

Personality

Quirks

- She tends to cross her arms often.

Flaws

- Possible Personality disorder. - Quite distrusting of people. - Immature when dealing with emotions.

Talents

She is quite gifted still in the art of summoning yet it takes a toll on her body, forcing her to focus and develop a great talent on jobs that may not necessarily involve fights. Due to her run ins with allagan technology and affinity with aether, she has great knowledge of their history and artifacts, often locking herself away for days to work on small trinkets in an attempt to emulate the ancient technology.

TV Tropes

I Am WhoInnocent Prodigy,  Forgets to EatOjou, Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl, Armor Piercing Question, Belated Backstory, The Quiet One

Abilities and Skills

Personal

Although she does errands constantly, her social skills are somehow lacking due to almost no interaction with other people, she may seem refined and hold etiquette, but other than doing so, she cannot show affection nor other kind of strong feelings towards other people most of the time, close friends being the only exception.

Magic

She is extremely well versed in the art of summoning, yet due to the side effect of an incident during the Calamity, this also takes a tall on her body, on recent happenings the moment she manages to summon a primal egi some crystal bits start appearing all over her hands due to the aether required and symbols to control such energy and her body being a terrible channeler for it.

Crafting

Although it was been a long forgotten practice, she used to know a little about weaving, enough to be able to clothe herself properly from just simple materials during her first moons in Uldah.

Crafting

Contrary to how she behaves nowadays, she used to be quite cheerful and danced within the Quicksand from time to time. Despite abandoning that, she has picked it up from time to time to gather information among the durnkards who may speak more than needed within the tavern as a different person.

Note: Vocal Songs are attributed themes in which the lyrics seem to relate or partially relate to the character. They don't mean to resemble the character's voice. The instrumental themes are meant to give an idea of the atmosphere around the character. Songs with character names (example: "Tidus's Theme") are NOT meant to indicate that the character is like the theme owner. I just find the instruments and melody fitting, not the character the song was originally addressed to.

Before Dalamud's Fall

Early Years

Born as the only daughter from a refugee and a Lominsan Marauder, Haila proved to be of incredibly humble origins, yet always an energetic and curious child. Her father would rarely be home as he preferred the company of bar wenches more than his family the moment he was done with his job, while her mother would be submissive and barely say a word at him, leaving the young midlander to wander around the city often with her younger sister and other kids as they did not posses enough coin to study, not that her father would even mind as he seemed to be a possesive man, wishing for his daughter to follow his footsteps and be the son he never had.

Teen Years

Earning the attention from the Maelstrom as an incredibly skilled child in strategy, and under the consent of her humble family she was placed into the best education aviliable in order to develop her talents and be of use to the army, making her the youngest yet avid member of their force. Despite the constant underestimation and mocking from those older than her, she remained true to herself and proved to be quite a strong young woman, yet naive, the perfect tool to be raised and controlled by those who took her in. Much to the young girl's dismay, most of the strategies she designed during her training or for the purpose of "games" were constantly put to work in the actual battlefields when needed. By the time the battle of Carteneau broke, she had earned the title of Lieutenant and was respected among her superiors despite only being 18 cycles old, her determination and constant work granted her the right to participate on the backlines, arranging the best positions for the soldiers to be at and avoiding as many casualties as possible, not a simple task for such a young woman.

After Dalamud's Fall

Adulthood Her adulthood turned out to be something more of a childhood, as if she had just been born. It took a fair 2 years in order to get all her motor functions back after the Calamity, it had actually been a miracle for her to survive considering the grave head injuries and partial crystalization her body suffered through it. Despite this the main problem was, the corrupted Aether she had been exposed to was too great, causing a great damage to her memories, according to the ones tending her in Camp Bronze Lake, she could be just a kid who had learnt its first words when the journey to her recovering began. She seemed like a young adult at the eyes of many yet when spoken to, it looked as if she was just a child in the body of an adult. Lacking common sense and any memory from before being found, the young maiden was no longer fit to be one of the Maelstrom's most brilliant soldier.

Even though she blended instantly, helping as an errand child, harvesting, or picking up whatever items were needed from Limsa for the farm and vice versa, in one of her many trips to the main city, she stumbled upon the Arcanist's guild, marveled at how someone could bring forward such a strange being as a Carbuncle, she begged their members to teach her some of this. Still, regardless of her petitions, she was not allowed to join, aware of her strange condition, the guildmaster requested to not let her within their numbers, yet she was still given a grimoire in order to apease her out of pity, her talent with strategy and such was no more, or it was rather dormant in her child ish state.

Time passed, almost a cycle when strange memories yet came to assault the midlander again, this time planting a wish she started to call her own, freedom to travel the world and see its many wonders. But she had no coin or things to call her own more than just her normal clothes, being in dire need of a "sponsor" she offered both the Maelstrom and the Arcanist's guild to send them information of whatever she may see or discover about aether, allagan relics and situations taking place outside of Limsa Lominsa, as well as her services when she was capable of doing duties as a full fledged soldier, this however only earned her the approval of the first. Despite being rejected several times, the Arcanist's guild supported her after some time had passed, seeing how capable she was with arcanima, they deemed a shame for her to not have joined from the very start even thought they had been the ones to negate her entrance in the first place and finally let her go. Now with 2 organization's approval, she was bestowed her own chocobo with Lominsan flags and released into the world.

A Realm Reborn (Age 23)

Barely after a year of wandering and seeing new people and customs, Haila's body started to deteriorate the moment she used Arcane magic, more specifically after summoning the very esscence of primals, ability she acquired during an expedition around the ruins of Mor Dhona when she was simply safeguarding some independant researchers in their quest for discovery. Now 23 years old, she settled momentarily in Ul'dah where she took several jobs that involved crafting or gathering materials. Even though her prescence was mostly felt around the quicksand, nary a word was exchanged with others when she stepped inside either to dance in silence trying to "liven things a little bit" or when she sat on tables. This cycle remained the same, misadventures coming and going enough to have broken the poor midlander. Her constant amnesia however proved to be her salvation for a long time. Eventually joining Nebulous Sabotenders first to hide away from the not so savory individuals she had encountered during her time in the sand sea, and staying as the members grew on her a little.

Heavensward (Age 25)

After one more year of working loyaly with Nebulous, misadventures came her way once more. During a mission in which she was supposed to be no more than a companion to bring aid to her co-workers, someone slipped a strange concoction within her supplies. Causing a change in her body that was agonizing in the process until becoming an Au Ra. Even worse, not long after that a sudden ambush brought the Xaela's demise as she fell into a coma from a head injury on the exact place she had hurt herself during the Calamity. Moons later, she would awake as a rather different person, her memories back along with the journey her companions went through to save her.

Leaving the company behind, it took her a good six moons to return to them once more, this time to stay for the best until she earns enough coin to finally settle down into a normal life. This of course does not seem likely as Haila seems to keep on being dragged into one problem after another. A life she has grown accustomed by now.
