The first thing many will notice about Hardy Boulder is his sheer size. Even among his own kind he is larger than average, and he dwarfs most other races. The Roegadyn's frame is extremely muscular, and one would be hard pressed to find much excess fat on his body. The knuckles of each massive hand are heavily calloused, along with the soles of his feet. Various small scars mar his tanned skin; the most prominent one runs vertically from his forehead down to below his left eye. Hardy began wearing an eyepatch over his left eye not after receiving that scar. Wild grey hair and an equally wild beard frame his face, and neither can often be considered clean. Usually Hardy is rather unkempt, not paying much attention to his physical appearance.

Hardy Boulder was born the third in his family, and to conserve scarce clan resources his family sent him away at the age of fifteen. Following the instructions of his clan the young Roegadyn traveled to the monks of The Fist of Rhalgr where he met his older brother, Gentle Couerl. Over the course of seven years Hardy learned under their tutelage, until his urge to roam compelled him to leave the temple. He was entrusted with two sacred tomes of the temple, in the hope he would spread the ways of Rhalgr. Mere moons after his departure the tyrant Theodorac slaughtered almost all of the monks, and by the time the news had reached Hardy's ears he was in Ul'dah. In fear of being found by The King of Ruin's barbaric crusade he hid his monkhood, instead becoming a bodyguard to a rich and shrewd merchant. After thirteen years the merchant caught fever and died, leaving Hardy devastated and without employment. He would probably still be an aimless drunkard today if news of other monks that had escaped hadn't reached his ears. After many moons of searching Hardy found four other monks, and with the help of the two sacred tomes they endeavored to rebuild their order. Three years later the five had built a small temple on the outskirts of Ul'dah and began to accept students. All of the monks enjoyed their newfound life of peace, that is, until Dalamund split apart. Among the many losses from Bahamut's wrath was the temple and all inside save for Hardy Boulder, albeit at the loss of an eye. For the next five years Hardy wandered Eorza once more, living the life of a nomad. Eventually he decided to try and settle down once more, which brings us to the present day where the massive Roegadyn is a bouncer at the Couerl's Whisker.

Hardy Boulder is likely one of the strongest people most will come across, although that strength does not lend itself to his intelligence. The Roegadyn is not as smart as the average man, and although he can read and write he does so at a pace far slower than normal. It's rather ironic that he is ambidextrous, a trait that he does not find much use for. Although he is far from blatantly stupid, it takes Hardy longer than average to understand more abstract ideas or thoughts, and struggles with arithmetic. However if this is looked over one finds a honest, compassionate, and friendly man. Like most of his race he is very loyal to his friends, and likes to get straight to the point if he can. He is extremely confident in his abilities and strength, although not to the point of arrogance. Often he can be too loud and even brash, but this is mostly overlooked due to a lack of harmful intention in his actions.

Following the instructions of his clan the young Roegadyn traveled to the monks of The Fist of Rhalgr where he met his older brother, Gentle Couerl. Eventually he decided to try and settle down once more, which brings us to the present day where the massive Roegadyn is a bouncer at the Couerl's Whisker.
