I'ka Runo(Nameday: 22nd Sun of the 4th Umbral Moon) is a former mercenary turned adventurer, mostly known for her travels around Eorzea and as a fearless warrior in battle. A poor Ala Mhigan from birth, I'ka fulfills her dream of becoming an adventurer, granting her more freedom to explore the realm rather than a mercenary would. She is mostly seen as a straightforward and confident Seeker, if not stressed. I'ka was never religious, indifferent to worshipping Rhalgr, or even to her patron deity, Oschon. She harbors a deep-seeded hatred for the Garlemald Empire, yet never shows it unless the subject was mentioned somehow. She also has a silent moogle companion which follows her around for reasons unknown, much to her displeasure.

Character

Biography

Born and raised in Ala Mhigo, I'ka Runo was a poor child along with her parents and her Keeper sister, Miabelle. The family were a hardworking bunch, working day and night to preserve their crops and bring food to the table. Yet, this was never enough. With their food drying out in the Gyr Abanian sun and with barely any money to spend for the sisters' education, I'ka and Mia had reluctantly decided to work as maidservants for a retired Garlean general. Their efforts had never gone to waste, being paid good coin for their family to move to a much more suitable home, and their parents finally taking the opportunity to rest. Yet the sisters dreamed to see the rest of the realm, to venture out of their homeland and become adventurers.

The years went by. At seventeen summers of age, I'ka and her sister would be tasked with their final assignment, and be granted leave to make their dream a reality, but all of that changed during that night. The sisters had been violated as they served the general's guests. If they had protested, they would receive a bullet to the head. The situation went even worse for the two, forcing to bare themselves in front of the general as he enjoys himself with their bodies, with Mia going first. Eventually, I'ka lost her temper and killed him before he even finished within her sister.

Everything went downhill after that night. Their parents have been publicly hanged in the name of "justice", while the sisters were thrown into prison for the rest of their days, with only each other to keep company. It was quiet after a year, when one night, an unlikely savior had flown through their window; a moogle. With it's guidance, the pair sneaked within the complex looking for an escape, eventually finding a button that would release every cell wide open...

A press. The sounds of shouting and fighting ensued. I'ka armed herself with a sword of Garlean make, while her other hand held Miabelle's tightly. With the protection of the hundreds of prisoners looking for freedom, I'ka was fueled with adrenaline, cutting a bloody path through the Garlean ranks as they charged for the gate. Freedom was in sight. Yet, a thaumaturge intercepted the sisters with a fireball surging towards them. I'ka was relatively unharmed, but only Miabelle's hand clutching her own was all that was left.

I'ka was now lost in the wilderness of Gyr Abania. She didn't know how long she ran, not out of freedom, but out of fear. But she didn't care. She had lost everything that mattered to her. The moogle from before appeared by her side after a week, with the Miqo'te attempting to kill it out of spite without success, even turning the slowly rusting blade against her own heart as she confronted the creature in her emotional state. But she couldn't do it. She wanted to die, but she was afraid of death. Thus began a companionship born from uncertainty and desperation.

I'ka, along with her silent moogle companion, drifted into the southernmost part of Aldenard two summers later, wandering aimlessly in Thanalan for a time until she collapsed in front of the city gate of Ul'dah due to malnourishment. Fortunately, she was found and taken in by Mylla, the gladiators' guildmaster. And so she trained, nourishing herself back to proper health while also strengthening her body through another two years of rigorous training as Mylla's personal pupil, becoming a natural with a sword. By that time, I'ka would become a mercenary, which would transition to a fully-fledged adventurer a year later due to certain events, training in every combat guild across the three city-states to become a better fighter, and to prepare for the rest of the realm. Throughout this time, I'ka had softened up to her fluffy companion, yet is still annoyed of the silent treatment she receives from it every single day.

Personality

Being a mercenary at first, I'ka was a cynical, yet calculating woman. She would stay within the boundaries of normalcy, usually avoiding anything that seemed bizarre or out of place, especially if it's within a conversation. She also used to make blunt off-handed comments. Her nature slowly changed within the year, due to having close companionships with people that she could trust.

Presently, I'ka is flippant and adventurous, but also no-nonsense and short-tempered at times. She would go as far to tease her friends with a smug smile on her face, frequently making sarcastic comments and jokes, though she would never show these mannerisms to people who are still unfamiliar to her, yet would still act open and friendly. A headstrong and stubborn Miqo'te, she would fight strongly for her beliefs, and do what she feels is right. This is also proven that she is fiercely independent, preferring to do things her own way.

She would also get useful tidbits of information on shady characters, and would investigate further to go to where the action is, out of boredom or curiosity. Despite these things, I'ka is deceptively mature, and can be nurturing to the people she cares about. However, I'ka would take certain situations very seriously, saving the jokes until the problem is resolved.

Appearance

I'ka possesses a tan complexion since birth, along with blonde hair usually reaching past her shoulders. She experiments with different long hairstyles from time to time, but mostly seen with said description. Average lips, thin eyebrows, a small nose and a pair of almost white eyes with a greenish hue. She has a slim, athletic body, her abdomen having a trace of abs due to rigorous training for the past three years.

Distinguishing Marks

Though I'ka was never part of a tribe, she has her own marks under each of her eyes in a white color. She also possesses a reasonably noticeable scar on her right cheek due to past skirmishes when training as a marauder.

Combat

Training in every combat guild across the three city-states, from swordsmanship, to archery, to the arcane arts, etcetera, I'ka can do it all. Though she is knowledgable in every field, she is mostly at heart with using heavy weapons, almost exclusively wielding an axe. This makes her a valuable ally, and a force to be reckoned with.

General

I'ka's fighting style is as ferocious as a beast, cleaving her enemies like a farmer cutting blades of grass with a scythe. She is also physically strong. From swinging her axe with impressive speed, and punching a fully grown Roegadyn a few yalms back. I'ka is quite durable and agile, having a higher resistance to pain than a normal person. Thanks to her training in magic, she can channel her aether through her attacks for more destructive force. Despite these advantages, her fighting style can be evocative of her mood. While she is usually focused in battle, she can get impatient and irritated when things aren't going her way, leading her to attack with more force, yet much more predictably. All of these compliment her "berserker" style of battle.

DISCLAIMER:

This event is specifically written if I'ka Runo had found Harue Nushiya's mugger. By no means did this happen yet, nor it ever will. If it does, please refer to this post.

...

Within Ul'dah, there exists a place notorious for its crime; Pearl Lane. A place for beggars, thieves and other notorious persons all willing to make a quick gil. But for this night only, it was strangely void of it's denizens. A deathly silence loomed over the place...

A perfect location for a murder.

A shadowy figure bolts through its street, their breathing ragged, clutching what was left of their right arm, running for their life from the demon who had maimed them.

"You can't run from me."

A voice, undiscernable to its location, echoed throughout the street. It only egged the figure to run even faster. An arrow soared through the air, catching the figure's leg. They screamed in pain as the arrow entered, tumbling over on the dusty floor. With alarm, they stood up clumsily, turning in tight circles to find their assailant.

Then they saw it.

"Another maggot to squash beneath my boot."

In the middle of a street was another figure, though the shadows made it unrecognizable, it was clear that it is a woman. What was most discernable though, was the axe on her back. Fresh blood coated its blade. But in her hands an arrow was notched to the string of her bow, as she was ready to take aim at the first figure. The arrow soared through the air...

They quickly evaded the second arrow, if not barely. They resumed running but at a staggered pace due to the wound in their leg.

"You should have stayed in the filth where you belonged in..."

The figure looked back, yet the woman was gone.

"Now you'll pay the price."

She was right in front of them.

Her hand instantly grabbed their throat, raising them above the ground. They futilely sputtered and struggled to break free from her grip, their legs rapidly kicking her torso, though this garnered no reaction from her. Instead, she slammed them against the wall, the wind knocked out of them and her hand still gripping their neck.

"You were a fool to mug her. You were a fool to set your sights on her. You were a fool to even gotten out of bed!" The woman spat hatefully. The figure didn't listen, still struggled to break free from her grip, yet weakly due to being slammed against the wall.

Oh, she'll silence them soon enough.

With her left still on their throat, she grabbed the axe on her back with her right and swung its blade at their other arm.

The figure howled in agony of being robbed of their other arm, blood sprouting from the opening like a fountain. She swung her axe again, but this time to their legs. Another scream echoed throughout the street, yet no one was there to save them from their pain. The woman stowed her axe, then whispered in their ear...

"I don't have time to linger long here. Be grateful that you..." Suddenly, the woman's right palm erupted in a burning flame, yet she didn't react to it. "...were not given a much slower death." The figure didn't have time for another scream as her hand thrusted to their face.

Their world became fire.

Their world became pain.

Their world became darkness.

...

"Brrrgh! Man, it's cold!"

The woman's voice echoed throughout the walls of her bathroom. Or more specifically, one of the Quicksand room bathrooms. The cold water from the showerhead fell upon the woman, running down her blonde hair along with her tanned, curved form. Sporting feline ears and a tail of similar color as her hair, her figure was in peak condition. Sporting albeit small yet perky breasts, abs toned and lean, and a supple lower backside. She had caught the attention of a few bar goers impressed by her beauty, though she does tend to catch the eye of unsavory types. But her feistiness killed whatever thought they had to hook up with her, especially a certain Raen who had flirted with her a couple of times.

This was I'ka Runo. Ex-sellsword, adventurer, Jill of all trades, lover of big weapons, and recent murderer of her friend's attacker.

A sigh. "Took me weeks to track that slippery little bastard. Paid off though, wasn't as strong as I thought." Whatever. It was over now. She had gotten her revenge. She had burned whatever what was left of the mugger's remains so that no one would point a finger at her.

Or at least, that's what she hoped for.

I'ka turns the shower off, stepping gingerly out of the stall to not slip, wiping a towel on her body as she looked at herself in the mirror.

Or mostly, her hair.

"Dammit, still not long enough." A pout similar to what she defeated Hirakatsu with to show his apartment formed on her lips. She mulled a little, eventually stepping out of her bathroom.

She was greeted with a plethora of weapons sprawled across the inn room in a neatly fashion. A few swords, a buckler, the bow and quiver of arrows she used that night, an arcane grimoire on her table, even a oak radical and a few scepters resting in a corner. A pair of steel baselards are lodged in a dart board nailed on the wall.

This was home.

I'ka plopped on her bed, still very much nude. It's not like anyone would see her anyway. But if a few strangers who were willing to get a peep of her, well, she would've clobbered them in a very violent fashion, no less. The cat looked out the window of her room, seeing fireworks lighting up the starry sky.

Starlight has come. If only she had someone to spend it with...

RP Hooks

Jill of all Trades - Even if she is most proficient in wielding an axe, I'ka has training in every possible field of combat. Whether it is protecting her party, being the sharp end of the spear, or even the ability to heal her allies through magic, she is knowledgable in knowing a discipline's strengths and weaknesses.

A Face in the Crowd - I'ka frequents the Quicksand whenever she takes a break from her training or her travels. Though she is mostly seen on her lonesome, she would welcome a stranger willing to start a conversation with her.

Garlemald's Most Wanted - I'ka's actions after her escape did not go unnoticed to the Empire. While she was ordered her execution, the Garleans are keeping their plans discreet lest they stir the beehives that were the Three Grand Companies.

Seasoned Adventurer - I'ka can be seen travelling across Eorzea, resting in a nearby tavern or offering assistance should she ever come across it. She would also intrude in anyone's business in places where gatherings are uncommon, either without much thought or out of curiosity.

Soul of the Warrior - I'ka possesses one of many soul crystals, the Soul of the Warrior, granting her strength she had never thought possible. Though she is already a proficient marauder, her training to awaken her inner beast had only just begun. It is unclear if she would train by herself or have a mentor overseeing her progress.

Relationships

Friends

Hirakatsu Kurokiba - An Au Ra Raen whom I'ka considers a dear friend of hers. One part of their dynamic trio, they were usually acquaintances at first, meeting in the Quicksand through some small talk regarding their gear, especially Hirakatsu's large sword which fascinated the blonde cat. Their bond has gotten stronger after meeting another Raen known as Harue Nushiya. I'ka had grown to love Hirakatsu as a woman, but disregarded her feelings, saying that she "doesn't deserve it."

Harue Nushiya - An Au Ra Raen whom I'ka considers a dear friend of hers. One part of their dynamic trio, Harue met I'ka and Hirakatsu, asking the man if he had known her due to their scales. They had discovered she was an amnesiac, thus volunteering to help find her former whereabouts, and possibly, regain her memories. After doing so, following with the knowledge of her parent's deaths, Harue had grown close to the two, welcoming them as her new "family". I'ka also loves to tease Harue, especially if the subject is about romance.

V'rasha Tenbe - A fellow Seeker. I'ka had met the woman when she was still a mercenary, talking about trivial things and passing the time. She had become good friends with the monk, regarding V'rasha as one of the people who brought I'ka out of her shell.

Claudien Winter - A Hyur Midlander, and leader of the Mogsglaive. I'ka had first met Claudien in front of the Quicksand many moons ago, feeling at ease with the man. Claudien vouches for I'ka, inviting her to join his free company in time. Though I'ka hadn't spent much time with him, she regards Claudien as one of the people who brought her out of her shell.

Tyrone Johnson - A Hyur Midlander who is a void hunter. I'ka had made a vow to join him to give an organization known as the Collective, in her words, to give them a black eye. A fellow Ala Mhigan, she sees Tyrone as a fellow comrade.

Acquaintances

Anargul Dotharl - An Au Ra Xaela belonging to the Dotharl tribe. I'ka had met Anargul through V'rasha, seeing her as more of a companion rather than a close friend. Still, they liked each other, both making a promise to have a duel should they meet again on the Azim Steppe.

Verith Wilson - A Hyur Midlander, and an old friend of Hirakatsu. Though I'ka finds the man annoying, she harbors no ill intentions for him.

Maseina Kurokiba - The sister of Hirakatsu, and Harue's former lover. Though they were on good terms when they met, I'ka had grown suspicious of Maseina, seeing hints that she had another lover on the side. Her suspicions quickly dissipated when Harue herself was doing the same, realizing that the two had a polyamorous relationship, much to the Seeker's confusion. But nevertheless, she has no qualms about it.

Drekki Drakkenheart - An Au Ra Xaela belonging to the Kha tribe, and quite an eccentric one. I'ka had met Drekki through a cup of coffee they both shared. Though still somewhat off-put by the self-proclaimed "Demon Lord", she enjoys her company, and appreciates the Xaela's skills as a bard. I'ka wouldn't dare dance for her, though.

Enemies

Tara Dalamiq - An Au Ra Xaela. I'ka had thought the woman as another acquaintance, but that changed drastically after discovering that Tara had forced the members of a free company through extreme psychological trauma, including a friend of I'ka, all to remind them of a "warning". I'ka had lost her temper that night after the event, threatening to harm Tara should she ever attempt to do that again. No blood was shed, but the two keep a reasonable distance from each other, still bitter about the other. Though, I'ka intends to make it up to the Xaela to prevent a grudge from forming.
