Invia Bellveil , or Invi for short, is a Hyur from the city of Valnain in Dalmasca.

History

Invia comes from Valnain, a port city on the tropical southern shores of Dalmasca. Her mother Kallen died when Invia was young. When Dalmasca was conquered a few years before Invia was born, her father Evien was an up-and-coming genius in the field of aetherochemistry and so was promptly taken in to the Garlean army's science division, and moreover he was eager to do so as Garlemald's resources provided excellent funding and resources for his research. He climbed the ranks quickly for a non-Garlean,

Growing up hearing the tales of the Zodiac Braves, especially Saint Ajora and King Delita, Invia admired the heroes they were. As the daughter of the eventual Evien mal Bellveil Invia lived a comfortable life in imperial-occupied Valnain despite not being a Garlean. It was not an extravagant lifestyle, but she could safely play in the streets, attend a school, and always had food on the table. But as she also befriended the lower levels of Dalmascan society, and sympathized with their plight. That being said, a fair many also hated her for being the daughter of a "traitor."

One day while exploring the tunnels beneath Valnain, Invia found a peculiar arcane tome with writing identifying it as coming from ancient Ivalice. Though written largely in ancient Ivalician, there were notes in modern Dalmascan from some previous owner the book had once had. Practicing in her home in secret, in time she would learn spells from the tome. To anyone who knew more of magick than the young Invia did, they would recognize the ancient tome as a book of thaumaturgy on wielding the dark powers of the Void and departed souls of the dead. But as she was unaware of their nature, from the confidence those new abilities gave her, combined with her reverence for the heroics of the Zodiac Braves, Invia decided to set off as an adventurer helping people in need across Dalmasca.

When the people of Dalmasca attempted to liberate their capital Rabanastre and the Garleans destroyed it in response, Invia saw the despair that swept the kingdom. Deciding there was not much for her left in Dalmasca, Invia fled the empire with the goal of becoming a true hero, someone who could be a beacon of hope for others. She believed that the key to achieving the power to do that may be in Eorzea with its bounties of aether and history of magicks, and so she left the empire in secret via a Radz-at-Han trading vessel to arrive in Eorzea and set herself up in Limsa Lominsa. She found a job making deliveries, and began research into the War of the Magi, eikons, and the history of magick, all to improve her skills and become a better hero. Her father remained in the imperial forces to this day, estranged from his daughter for her choice as he was quite happy with his station in life.

She participated in the Eorzean Alliance's liberation of Ala Mhigo as a show of friendship to Eorzea, serving as a mercenary in the Ala Mhigan Resistance's employ. One particular expedition in the catacombs beneath the Lochs exposed Invia to undead for the first time, where she learned two things: first, that she had a fear of ghosts; and second, that the magick they wielded was similar in nature to the spells she learned from that ancient tome (though not exactly identical, being from halfway across the world). For the first time she realized that maybe there was a more sinister origin to her abilities than she thought, and she sought help from an old Ala Mhigan soldier to train her in combat with a spear as well so those dark magicks wouldn't have to be the only thing she could rely on.

Shadowbringers

Due to her personal relationship with the IVth Legion via her father, Invia participated in the Dalmascan resistance's battle to retake Nalbina Fortress while the Garleans were occupied in the Bozjan Southern Front. Following that she moved to aid the Bozjans for the battle in Zadnor. Aboard the massive airship the Dalriada, as a force led by the Bozjan and Dalmascan resistance leaders fought the IVth Legion's officers, Invia had an emotional confrontation of her own with Evien. When the Diablo Armament went on a rampage and destroyed the ship, despite everything that had happened, Invia shielded her father from the explosions and raining debris. Though on the verge of death, Invia knew she had saved someone she loved...only for him to do shortly the same. Taking auracite that the IVth Legion had gathered and stored on the ship for research, Evien used the miracle-granting stone to give his life for his daughter's. Invia was brought back from the other side at the cost of her father's life, and as his last act of love toward his daughter, saved from the destruction of the Dalriada and spirited back to the Bozjan basecamp.

Some weeks afterward, the Dalmascan resistance announced that Legatus Noah van Gabranth was reportedly dead, and that after thirty long years of oppression, Dalmasca was finally free of imperial control. Now wearing the auracite around her neck as a memento of her father's sacrifice, Invia returned to her homeland to help in the reconstruction efforts from the new capital, Valnain. The first thing she did was find her old home in the city, and it was there that she discovered notes her father had left behind on the heretical Sect of Germonique, a cult worshiping Ultima who had been exiled from Dalmasca years ago. In addition to realizing this Sect were the owners of the tome she had once found beneath the city, she also learned that her father had worked with them during his time in the IVth Legion to help uncover the secrets of auracite, and while continuing her further dream to be a hero and research ancient magicks, also decided to learn more about the Sect of Germonique so she could stop the cult from abusing Evien Bellveil's legacy.

Character

Appearance

Invia's accent gives away her Dalmascan origin. A thin silver charm bracelet hangs on Invia's left wrist, each charm on it a memento of family and friends. Her figure shows a lifetime of dancing and playing sports in the city streets. She's left-handed.

Invia carries an ancient arcane tome on her person, decorated on the cover with the symbols of the Ivalician zodiac in pale gold. She found it in a series of ancient tunnels beneath her hometown of Valnain. She can't even fully read it as it is in a language predating Dalmascan, but she recognizes the symbology of the Zodiac Brave Story that she is so enamored with.

As of the final stand of the IVth Imperial Legion aboard the Dalriada, Invia wears an auracite pendant around her neck carved into a teardrop shape, the same piece of auracite that her father used to save her life. Her close encounter with death also altered her appearance somewhat, turning streaks of her hair white. She has gained a sensitivity to ghosts and spirits, and sometimes feels like she can see souls flowing through the normally-invisible lifestream.

Personality

Invia is a warm, friendly person, but she is lacks confidence in herself and tends to get offended or angry easily even if that wasn't your intent. Invia simply adores children and strives to be a "cool big sister" to any she befriends. She is a self-described tomboy and enjoys sports when she isn't spending her downtime reading.

Invia's shelves are filled with books of magic, history, and works of fiction, especially the stories of the Zodiac Braves. Of particular personal importance to Invia is the tale of King Delita, whom she sees as her hero. Over the course of her time in Eorzea she has also come to find a fascination with the Fifth Astral Era. When she has free time and the weather permits it, she is often found playing some sort of sport outdoors, or perhaps drawing, which is another hobby of hers.

Though many of the holy sites of Dalmasca's religion, the Light of Kiltia, were destroyed by Garlemald, it survives in its people. Invia has been a faithful of Faram the Father her whole life, and the need to keep it secret from the Garleans has perhaps made her even more devout.

Seeing as she spent her entire life under Garlean rule she uses Garlean terms for some Eorzean concepts, such as "eikon" instead of "primal". And as a Dalmascan, she refers to aether as "Mist".

Ironically given more recent developments in her life, she has a fear of ghosts.

Combat

Invia was self-taught by an Ivalician tome to wield dark magicks of the Void and of departed souls of the living. She also has a talent toward casting glamours and illusions.

She is skilled in melee combat with a spear, and often mixes both weapon and spellcraft together. She moves quickly and makes rapid strikes, and incorporates kicks and flips into her fighting as well - perhaps more just for show than any practical reason.
