Invia Sheol , or Invi for short, is a Miqo'te from the conquered city-state of Lindblum in Ilsabard.

History

Invia comes from Lindblum, a city-state in the temperate parts of Ilsabard not very far from Werlyt. It is built on the slopes of a small mountain, and so mass transit like cable cars and airtrolleys are used to navigate the verticality of the city. Lindblum is both a center of the arts and a major manufacturer of airships for the empire, and the imperial castrum (formerly Lindblum's palace) at the peak of the city was the center of operations for the IXth Imperial Legion. Lindblum is known as a haven for beastmen that are persecuted by the Garlean Empire, and so they make up a surprisingly high percentage of the population compared to other imperial provinces. At the base of the mountain on which Lindblum is built is a forest called the Iifa Woods. The forest is so dense with aether that it's visible to the naked eye, and so has come to be known as Mist to the residents. The Mist is so thick that it obscures sunlight from reaching the depths of the Iifa Woods, and the dark reaches are haunted by rather monstrous wildlife mutated by countless generations of exposure to the Mist, as well as Voidsent attracted by the dense aether. Local folklore says that the presence of such concentrated aether is due to a disruption in the flow of souls in the lifestream in the area.

Her parents, being raised in Garlean society themselves, eschewed tribal Miqo'te lifestyle in favor of just being a couple. Her mother Celhi died when she was young, while her father Evien mal Sheol was a renowned genius in the field of aetherochemistry and the study of souls. When he was younger had attended the Magitek Academy in the imperial capital and graduated to become a mal-ranked researcher in the IXth Imperial Legion.

Evfer since she was a small child Invia being told them by her ill mother, Invia has been captivated by tales of heroes and knights in shining armor. She and her friends often played make-believe heroes in both the city and the wilderness outside its walls. As the daughter of a ranking researcher Invia lived a comfortable life in imperial-occupied territory despite not being a Garlean. Still, her upbringing did not turn her into some Garlean sympathizer; as she grew up hearing the stories of heroes and befriended those less fortunate, she too sought to see Lindblum freed. Eventually Invia decided to set off and become a hero herself, choosing Eorzea as her goal because of the many adventurers already found there. Of course this put her at odds with her father, who was quite happy in his position.

Invia also had another factor which convinced her to set off. For as long as she could remember Invia had an affinity to a certain branch of magicks: the manipulation of the souls of the dead. Since she was young she had had an affinity for ashkin and, to an extent, been able to use their powers for herself. Her investigation into her talents led to her learning the basics of thaumaturgy as well. She chose to travel to Eorzea due to its history of heavy use of magick, hoping that there she would refine her control to become a hero like the ones in the stories she so loved. Her father remained in the imperial forces back in Lindblum, estranged from his daughter for her choice as he was quite happy with his station in life.

Invia set herself up in Limsa Lominsa and while working as an adventurer also began research into the War of the Magi and the history of the Fifth Astral Era's magical civilizations.

Shadowbringers

After Emperor Varis's death, the Empire fell into civil war and all of Ilsabard was caught up in the chaos. Lindblum was the sight of a three-way battle between two imperial legions and a group of resistance fighters, of which Invia herself was a part of. In the middle of the fighting she had an emotional confrontation with her father at his lab in the castrum. During their confrontation battling across the city caused ceruleum tanks to detonate and bring down the castrum, and despite everything that had happened, Invia shielded her father from the explosions and raining debris. Though on the verge of death, Invia knew she had saved someone she loved...only for him to do shortly the same. Using the fruits of his research into the soul, Evien used forbidden magicks to give his life for his daughter's. Invia was brought back from the other side at the cost of her father's life, and as his last act of love toward his daughter, saved from the destruction and spirited her to safety. The catalyst at the source of this spell was a white crystal pendant, which Invia now keeps on her at all times as a memento.

Her recent near-death experience turned streaks of her hair white and increased her sensitivity to ghosts.

Character

Appearance

Several thin silver bracelets hangs on Invia's left wrist, and she wears a white crystal pendant around her neck carved into a teardrop shape and held by a thin gold chain. Her figure hints at a youth spent playing in the city streets and exploring the nearby wilderness. She's left-handed.

Streaks of her hair are white, and her eyes are a brilliant silver. The streaks in her hair only appeared after her near-death experience. She has a sensitivity to ghosts and spirits, and sometimes feels like she can see souls flowing through the normally-invisible lifestream.

Personality

Invia is a warm, friendly person, but she is lacks confidence in herself and tends to get offended or angry easily even if that wasn't your intent. Invia simply adores children and strives to be a "cool big sister" to any she befriends. She is a self-described tomboy and enjoys sports when she isn't spending her downtime reading. Since her arrival in La Noscea she has discovered a love of the sea.

Invia's shelves are filled with books of magick, history, and works of fiction, such as the Zodiac Brave Story and her favorite childhood tale I Want to be Your Canary. Over the course of her time in Eorzea she has also come to find a fascination with the Fifth Astral Era. When she has free time and the weather permits it, she is often found outdoor reading or drawing.

Seeing as she spent her entire life under Garlean rule she uses Garlean terms for some Eorzean concepts, such as "eikon" instead of "primal". Hailing from Lindblum, she refers to aether as "Mist".

Ironically given more recent developments in her life, she has a fear of ghosts.

Combat

Invia has always had a knack for wielding the magicks of the departed souls of the living she was young, and as an extension of her research on that was self-taught in the basics of thaumaturgy. She also has a talent toward casting glamours and illusions.

She is skilled in melee combat with a spear, and often mixes both weapon and spellcraft together. She moves quickly and makes rapid strikes, and incorporates kicks and flips into her fighting as well - perhaps more just for show than any practical reason.
