==Appearance==

Jeros is a muscular, older Highlander, his craggy face adorned with many a scar. He has long, braided red hair and brilliant blue eyes. He's usually seen in his company uniform, augmented with thick, practical gloves while at the forge. His casual dress tends to be plain and rather conservative: dull, solid colors, rugged materials, and very little exposed skin. Where his skin is exposed, further scarring is usually evident.

==Personality==

Despite his conservative dress, age, and advancing infirmity, Jeros is still a fairly vibrant man at heart. He feels things deeply and is usually unashamed of and unrestrained in expressing his emotions. Time and experience, though, have taught him the value of tact, and he has learned to suppress a display if he must. He is loyal to a fault, protective of his allies / friends / charges / innocent bystanders, and warm and affable with those who have not given him cause to treat them otherwise. When his ire is roused, though, there is little mistaking it; his eyes flash, his muscles tense, and his usual gravelly baritone takes on a growling, almost bestial quality.

Jeros is also a superstitious man, given to attribute unexplained phenomena or strokes of luck (good or ill) to the interventions of the relevant deities of the Twelve and to fear those which have no clear (to him) source among them. He has a particular dread of powerful voidsent, especially those seen to be able to act in the material world either directly or through possession of mortal bodies. Of magick he knows only what his comrades have shown and explained to him; he has proven incapable of wielding it himself, and indeed, his personal aether has proven resistant to being affected by it, two facts which may share a common origin.

==History==

Jeros speaks little of the years before he moved to La Noscea and, soon after, joined the Maelstrom out of gratitude for the island nation's willingness to let him prove himself. On occasion he can be heard to find fault with the other nation-states, especially Ul'dah and its Syndicate of greedy, exploitative Monetarists who seem to value gil over lives. What precisely led him to those conclusions is known only to a few, but he has admitted to having been an Ala Mhigan refugee and a gladiator, which could certainly color one's outlook.

He first met [[Leiladyn Mindartia]], an Adders arcanist, on joint assignment under the Eorzean Alliance. They worked together for a time in that capacity, investigating and thwarting plots from the criminal to the primal. Both found the association quite agreeable, reminiscent of the old cooperation between Nymian scholars and marauders. They later joined the Free Company that would one day become Might and Magitek together on the same night.

Since then, Jeros has proven a steadfast ally of the Free Company, lending his axe and occasionally his other talents to many a mission, especially where fellow members are endangered. Only in recent years, after the haunting of the company manor left him with indelible scars on both his mind and body, has he retired to a less active role, cultivating his talent for metalworking and repurposing his military experience into means of indirectly protecting those he no longer has the strength or endurance to guard bodily.

==Rumors==

(Note: the following may be wildly exaggerated and/or wholly inaccurate.)

* (common, anywhere) He has never been seen without his armor.

* (uncommon, Maelstrom / amongst other comrades) He's more scar tissue than skin; he's so tough because he literally can't feel pain anymore.

* (uncommon, Mist / amongst comrades) He once dreamed of becoming a paladin, but was rejected due to a complete inability to grasp even the rudiments of conjury.

* (rare, Ul'dah) He's formerly the Red Lion, a famous Bloodsands gladiator who disappeared after buying out his contract. He may have braided his hair and traded in his sword and shield for a great-axe and a smithing hammer, but he bears the same prominent facial scars and shares a tendency to growl and/or roar savagely when enraged.
