Full Name: John D. Spiegel

Birth Name: Jnsyn Silversheath

Pronunciation: Ja-on Dee Spee-gul

Origins: John’s true given name was a variant of a common name in Ala Mhigo. John’s paternal tree was a long line of metalworkers. John was orphaned between the age 1-2. His non-Highlander-sounding last name is attributed to an early event in his adventuring days and he just kind of stuck with it, though he does occassionally use his birth-surname or one of the various surnames he's gathered over the years. 


APPEARANCE

Age: 57 (at ARR launch; he was at Dalmund, 62 years old by date)

Height: ~6 fulms and 7 ilms

Weight: ~290 ponzes

Body: Whether it be his Highlander blood, a lifetime of fending for himself or something else, John has maintained his physique well into his 50’s. His hands tempered over years of adventuring, working and fighting. 

Hair: Bald; originally brown, grey stubble. 

Eyes: Brown; lost right eye

Skin: Tanned and covered in scars.

Clothing: Almost always clad in armor. Before the Calamity, he sported battle-ridden darksteel armor that was mended in the field and by various smiths over the years. During the battle in Mor Dhona, the breastplate and helmet of John were broken and blown off during combat. After being shoved through time, John obtained a semi-custom breastplate from the Celestial Forge in Limsa Lominsa.

Marks: A scar from his lost right eye to the bottom of his chin is most apparent. His abdomen, arms and legs are covered with various kinds of scars from different ages. Arrow wounds, stab wounds and magic-induced scaring.

SKILLS

Combat: John’s specialty in combat is two-handed weapons, but he has been known to dabble in one-handed weapons, hand-to-hand and ranged weaponry in the past.

  • Scythes and greatswords were JJ’s primary two-handers, known to carry two greatswords and a scythe on his back into combat. One might ask why you need two great swords, JJ would reply with a different reason or story each time of past or potential future needs of a second greatsword.
  • John’s no expert in one-handers, but he’s not to be ignored. Where he lacks in finesse, he makes up for an increase in agility due to not lugging his large weapons around. 
  • Hand-to-hand combat is another that John does not excel at, but is fairly good at grappling and throwing really hard punches. He's adapted his wife's family's "Windfist" ability to a point.

Weaknesses: Having lost his right eye, he is vulnerable from surprise attacks from that side. To compensate for this, in buildings or closed areas, John positions his right side against a wall in the event he drops his guard. His magick pool is severely low, only being able to cast a spell and perhaps a magick-absorb spell before it needs to replenish. As a result, foes with considerable physical resistance require a bit more tact than normal. Unless he’s not wearing his heavy armor and lugging around his heavy weapons, he’s forced to block –rather than dodge- fast attacks. He tries to compensate for this by going to brief hand-to-hand if the opponent is close.

Alex Spiegel - The male twin, late 30s (~38). He took fancy to academics and the books rather than combat. He has been a scholar that traveled some for research. While he is not battle-hardened, he knows his way around a mace or a bow as well as some magick he picked up along the way. He's a little below average height, as attributed from his mother's side of the blood. He has blond hair and greenish blue eyes, again, taking after his mother. The prominent JJ features are in the face. Alex exhibits the same stupid grin that JJ has. He is soft-spoken, having been the submissive of the twins, but not easily pushed around.
