General Information
A Yanxian-born woman who found herself homeless after the Garlean invasion. After toiling as a miner, turned metalworker for several years, Blossom studied the art of Arcana, eventually becoming a healer in the Kracken's Arms. With her crewmate Wazeze Waze, they left the pirates after some while and founded the Oynx Pyrolisk Trading Company, a corporation with sole control of trade between Limsa Lominsa, Ishgard, and Kugane. With her vast wealth and influence, Blossom now seeks to gather only the rarest of items for her collection of knowledge--the "Museum of Museums", and founded the Seeker's Organization to aid in finding only the best of the best.

Prideful, snobby, and vain on the outside, Joyous's act hides an astonishingly sharp wit and a terrible foe if wronged.

Joyous has blue-green eyes, from her mother Iruki. Many have described them as being able to see through a man into his soul, so many wishing for her patronage tend to avoid her direct gaze. They seem to carry a knowing twinkle in them whenever she speaks to someone...

While Blossom has the same hair color as her father Yoto Sakura, a healthy black hue, Joyous has had it cut quite short—another measured testament of her distancing herself from her Yanxian past, as the fashion among their people is typically to keep it at length.

Physique & Markings
A woman who prides herself on being as alluring and disorienting as humanly possible for the sake of an advantage, Joyous does everything she can to keep her hourglass figure and obsesses over how she appears to others. She is adamant about wearing just enough makeup to look beautiful, but only just so much as to make it appear natural.
The only marking of note is the lengthy tattoo of a Sanuwa, a creature often found in the Sea of Clouds, trailing from her ankle to what most would assume is her stomach along her right leg. It is entirely uncertain how or why she carries this art on her person.

If nothing else, Joyous is known for her...unique appearance in terms of clothing. Electing to wear only the most outlandish of outfits, gossip circles are often abuzz after she has made a public appearance. While she relishes in the attention, Joyous also balks at the idea of wearing 'common' clothing.
Joyous insists on being as clean as possible, unless her situation absolutely requires otherwise. Whenever she passes, a strong scent of fruits can be gleaned, wafting off of her in every direction.

Personality

To a person looking from the outside in, Joyous Blossom is a poised, imposing, elegant, intelligent, and alluring creature. Her presence is powerful; when she enters a room, one can most certainly notice it, and once she is there, it's difficult to cast your attention elsewhere. Rumors of her exploits might suddenly surface their way to one's thoughts—how she could talk a wild chocobo out of all of its feathers, or perhaps the missing merchant who once wronged her was never seen again, or her shady past as one of the Kracken's Arms. A fierce, powerful, cunning being with hidden, dangerous claws that could strike out at any sight of something not going the way she wants. Painfully blunt, impatient to a fault, and hells on earth should you earn her scorn, most walk on eggs around her to avoid her wrath.

These sorts of emotions are precisely what Joyous wants people to drown in when confronted with her. Wild tales of things she has (mostly) never done circulating fantastical rumors to give her a much larger-than-life appearance to her allies and enemies alike are what she aims for; the more extreme and unbelievable, the better. To further this, she is strangely absent from most social events, electing to keep to the confines of her estate, which are rather heavily guarded and kept quite secretive.
Joyous is dizzingly confident in herself—she's quite aware of her features, and what people think of her—she knows she is attractive, she knows she is intelligent, and she knows she is powerful in both wealth and combat alike. All of these points are tools for her to use to get what she desires, when she desires it, and most around her are keen on keeping her happy for fear of her temper. In much the same way that her mentor G'ratha Tia was, Joyous is a pragmatic woman—she is quite willing to do whatever she needs to in order to achieve her goals, regardless of what that something happens to be. In spite of that moral grayness, it does seem that she takes pains in order to minimize damage to commonfolk and innocent people when she can, and takes compassion in others who are in need of succor.
Eccentric is hardly the word to begin with Joyous, as her escapades are considered an oddity among the well-to-do, her fashion choices are mildly questionable at best, and her hobbies are outlandishly bizarre. The former Kracken's newest passion has become collecting the rarest and most valuable items in all of the world, going as far as to hire mercenaries, adventurers, hunters, and pirates to obtain trinkets for her growing assortment. She is not above and beyond putting them into harm's way, stating that sacrifices must be made in order to achieve great things, and has strangely mentally removed herself from the concept of danger entirely, often brushing it off as a minor inconvenience. However in spite of that, it is quite clear she cares for those who dedicate themselves to their work, in her own strange little way. Joyous does not tolerate the weak or lazy, and is quick to become icily cruel to get a point across—she is not entirely without pleasure in making the foolish look even moreso, and seems to delight in tormenting people who have wronged others in her eyes. She does, however, appear to become bored very easily if doing so does not give her satisfaction, and is quick to cut conversations with people she considers wasting her time short, no matter how rude she seems or who she is speaking to.

Osrich Arkwright:

A Gridanian-born Dragoon who saved Joyous's life from would-be kidnappers alongside his companions, Traique O'nera and Jacan Sunderfist. He is a man of few words, electing to speak only when he has something to say. Arkwright has spent many years studying and hunting down elite monsters, priding himself as one of the forefront members of Clan Centurnio. He is a warrior of exceptional skill, known more only for his candid nature and sharp intellect. Astonishingly, he seems to excel at everything he puts his mind to...




Family

Iruki Sakura: Joyous's Mother. Perhaps one of the best spearfishers along the Yanxian coast, Iruki adored the sea and all its wonders. Even in the most gloomy and troubling of storms, her love never wavered, and she oft sang prayer hyms to the Kami of the oceans. A kindly woman, though boastful and somewhat arrogant of her abilities, Iruki Sakura still lives in Isari to this day, though a far less joyful and lively creature than when she once was a mother and a fisher, rather than just the latter.

Yoto Sakura: Joyous's Father. A natural at handling vessels of the ocean, Yoto was thought to eventually become a member of the Confederates; his rebellious nature and adventurous spirit certainly seemed to point in that direction. However, Yoto was a poor fighter, and he knew it too well. What he 'did' wield, however, was a sharp wit and a silver tongue, both of which he played to his advantage peddling trade goods on the streets of Kugane. Selling baubles from his wife to artisans, and selling the works they produced to wealthy passers-by was his forté, a natural progression to the man. Extremely well-liked in the city and the fishing villa both for his caring disposition and honest nature, Yoto is thought to be dead after his capture by the Garleans some twenty-odd years past.

Sajin Sakura: Joyous's Older Brother. Serious and stern, Sajin was the silent muscle behind Yoto's operations. Sitting at least a head taller than his father (and many a deal more than anybody else,) and carrying a fierce-looking katana on his hip, where Yoto lacked in his combat skills, Sajin more than made up for in spades. A natural talent with the blade, many often remarked that Sajin would make for an excellent samurai...however, Sajin often commented that his only duty was to keep his father safe. He strongly believed one day his sword would be needed to defend people who would rely on his ability...the day never came. Though he struck down several Imperials during the invasion of Yanxia and her shores, Sajin was eventually taken by the Garlean Empire along with his father.

Early Age, Sixth Astral Era


Born Tanoshi Sakura in the fishing provinces of Isari to Yoto and Iruki Sakura, it was expected that she would become but another porter across the Ruby Sea to Kugane in her further years, or perhaps a fishwife to a local youth someday. Nobody, however, would have guessed neither the escapades nor lengthy resumé that Tanoshi Sakura would actually be given in due time. With a deep love for the sea, Tanoshi would often beg for her father to take her along with her brother, Sajin, to the bustling city to the East in hopes she might meet some mystical creature of the deep. Innocent in intentions and young in age, she marveled every time she spotted a Kojiin, and delighted in collecting treasures of her own; in fact, she had every mind to become a Kojiin when she grew up, as she would inform anybody who asked her. Dreams of traveling sea, land, and air to collect the most precious of things for the Kami were the fuel for the fire in a young girl's heart for many years. The primary trader of their village, Yoto held ties to Confederate members and Kugane officials in spades...while he was by no means a rich man, under his shrewd business-sense, Isari flourished under his influence. A kindly soul with a jolly disposition, the man was well-liked by all who met him, as people flocked to do business when his vessel came to port.
The Invasion of Doma, and its subsequent territories however, would leave the dream all but dead. Ruthless in their conquest, the Imperials took siege of any and all who had dared to aid the Resistance during the war...including Yoto and Sajin, who had ported across some tens of dozens of fleeing families to Kugane with little regard for their own safety. They and several other fishermen were promptly slaughtered, their bodies left to rot, and families forbidden to perform final rites. With a newfound hatred of the Empire and its murderous ways, Tanoshi fled Isari to the Confederacy, where she joined at the ripe age of twelve summers. Using her father's influence in Kugane, Tanoshi was often sent to broker trade deals with local merchants, offering lower prices on the Ruby Tithe in exchange for goods and services. Over the years, she became known for being just as silver-tongued and likable as her father before her. Thought to be able to charm the Emperor of Garlemald himself into surrendering, and to talk a Chocobo out of its feathers, Tanoshi's reputation became well-known in the local area. Five summers passed since the invasion of Doma, and still tensions among the people of Kugane and the Confederacy teetered on the smallest of stones. As the Empire inched ever-closer to them, paying less and less regard to defenses, laws, and traditions, it was widely thought that the Far East would be next to be overrun. With the annexation of Ala Mhigo, worries eased, if only slightly...but Tanoshi felt an ever-increasing sense of dread in her breast. Knowing full-well the horrors Garlemald could wreck upon the innocent, and well aware neither the Confederacy nor the people of Kugane would act on their own defense, let alone someone else's, Sakura elected to stow herself away upon a ship headed to the far-away land of Eorzea...where rumors lay they would be next to be shoved beneath the Emperor's thumb.

Tanoshi eventually found herself upon the Isle of Vylbrand, where she took up to the Iron Mines near Limsa Lominsa to keep herself fed and clothed. After three summers of work as a miner however, Tanoshi elected to become a smithy, working with the metal she once mined in hopes she would learn the skills to create the ultimate set of weapons and armor...tools that she could eventually use to wipe out the Empire once and for all. Bored with the work of the forges however, metalworking failed to hold her interests as she felt she had not learned fast enough to sate her revenge. Deciding instead to become an adventurer, Sakura changed her name to a literal translation into Eorzean -- Joyous Blossom -- and joined the Arcanist's Guild in Limsa Lominsa.
The art of Arcana finally caught the Hellsguard's attention, sweeping her off her feet into an entirely new world of planning and strategy that she had never before dreamed of. Enraptured by the deployment of brilliant tactics, Blossom strove to become the best in her field, blazing through to mastery levels before she had reached twenty-one summers old. Hungry for more information, more stratagems, and more power, Joyous took what little money she had remaining and journeyed to the Sharlayan Hinterlands to become a student there. Joy's time there, however, would be ultimately cut short--having spent but a few meager months with the Sharlayans before the Exodus was called for. Dismayed by a lead gone dry, and nobody remaining to teach her, Blossom returned to Limsa Lominsa broke and hopeless.

Seventh Umbral Era


Joyous came back to Lominsa only just in time for the Seventh Calamity and the horrors it had wrought. While many people lost their lives during the attack, the Yanxia native was able to save some few from the wreckages of homes and natural disasters-- one such being a young Lalafellan woman named Wazeze Waze, a former Imperial slave who had but only recently escaped from Castrum Meridianum. Feeling she owed her life to the Roegadyn, Waze insisted on aiding the woman who had rescued her, and became one of Blossom's few true friends. Joyous herself survived the Calamity with little damage to herself, but her heart rendered asunder when she saw the place she had come to know as a second home ripped to shreds. Once again, the Empire had nearly taken everything from her...and once again, Blossom felt the fires of vengeance rekindled. Returning only temporarily to her smithy work in order to help rebuild Limsa to her former glory, she paused only to tend to Wazeze. Hearing the stories from the Plainsfolk as she helped tend to her only fueled the Hellsguard's anger further, as tales of abuse and cruelty rang in unison with the pain and suffering she had witnessed on her own.
Blossom quit smithing once again, electing to focus on her revenge once again. Knowing there was no longer anybody to teach her the ways of the arcane, Joyous sought to instead learn the ways of the sword. Wazeze, though not eager to learn how to fight, agreed to join her friend on her journey, and together they joined the ranks of the Kracken's Arms. For seven summers the pair of them worked together as members of the crew-- Joyous as a competent healer and and Wazeze's former forced employment as an engineer proving to be invaluable -- until the pair felt they had drank their fill of the sea and her plunder. With enough between them to begin their own enterprise, the two women founded the Onyx Pyrolisk Trading Company; a front to start their campaign against the Imperials once and for all.

In the beginning, the Skylift was the very first project the Onyx Pyrolisks endeavored upon, inspired by constant complaints from the smithies Blossom recalled in her time with them about the length of time it took to get supplies across Zephyr Gate. Wazeze's lengthy exposure to Garlean technologies and her natural skills created the lever and pulley systems which eventually culminated into the Skylifts of Middle La Noscea. While it put the company deep into debt within the first few moons, by its fifth in operation it had more than doubled overall production and quickly paid itself off in dividends. A clamor for more of the same design quickly ran the Onyx Pyrolisks into high demand--attracting the attention of Ishgard's House Dzmael, whose Count Tarresson de Dzmael brokered a deal with the company to send lumber in exchange for services and metal goods.
However Blossom's mind still lingered on the liberation of those who had been taken by force; a problem she now realized with her age was not one she could solve on her lonesome. Instead, she elected to aid in the ways she best could, trade, creativity, and connections. While the Kracken's Arms held sway over spices from the Far East, and the East Aldenard Trading Company was uncontested in the sale of artisan works, neither of them held power in the Lominsan-made metals and Ishgardian-farmed lumber that the Onyx Pyrolisks now controlled.

Seventh Astral Era -- Heavensward


Returning to Kugane after an almost twenty year absence, Joyous Blossom established her own foothold within the city, using her old ties to grow influence and wealth for the Onyx Pyrolisk Trading Company and eventually purchasing an estate within the city-state. However, with wealth and power came the risk of danger, and it was one day when her guards failed to protect her from would-be kidnappers that she found her true calling. It was here she met Osrich Arkwright, a Dragoon of Gridanian birth whose drive to slay the rarest and most dangerous of beasts had landed him within the Far East, and his partners Traique O'nera, a Moonkeeper with a penchant for "song hunting", and Jacan Sunderfist, a former knight of Ishgard who had turned in his sword and shield for a katana and a life of freedom away from the High Houses. As thanks for their rescue, Joyous housed the lot within her estate during their time in the Far East, and insisted upon listening to every escapade they returned from whenever she possibly could. Hearing of their tales across Eorzea and beyond filled Blossom with a sense of wonder and longing, wishing she could travel so freely herself and do things on a mere whim...
And why couldn't she? She was wealthy and influential; why couldn't she do whatever she wanted? Nothing was standing in her way... The Company was well on its way, but without her at the helm, it was sure to teeter into the brink. Things were simply too fragile...and there was vengeance to be sought. But what, Arkwright would ask her one day, would she do once she had gotten her dues paid back to her? What would she do with her life then? That, he told her, was the thing about revenge; it's always sweet, wonderful at first, until you realize you've got nothing left to strive for. Confused and frustrated with the conflict the Hyur had brought to her, Joyous pushed herself away from the traveling trio, her mind focused on her reward.

Things, however, slowly ground to a halt as time passed. With Ishgard poised for their final confrontation against the Dravanian Horde, lumber processing crawled to a standstill. Demand for metals and supplies from the city-state only increased with the passing days. The war against the Empire seemed to gain no foothold, and day by day the people of Yanxia became more and more complacent with the yoke they now bore. Unable to bear the sight of her once-proud nation falling to ruin and the news of her mother's death finally reaching her, Blossom shut herself off from her closest of her friends--to include Wazeze. Struggling to procure funds for her company, Joyous began to fret overmuch, and it soon drove her into a drinking depression which would last the length of two full summers. It was only upon returning to Kugane and the Pyrolisk Estate that Osrich, Traique, and Jacan broke her of her habit--the Roegadyn nearly bringing great harm to her friends, and vice-versa--a point at which Joyous vowed never again to touch hard alcohol.
Cured of her vice and back into the swing of things, Joyous was slowly talked into giving up on her dreams of revenge. Instead, she elected to use her power and wealth to create, instead of destroy. Eventually, she knew, the war would be over...and no matter what side would win, she could still bring some good into the world in spite of everything. But what could she, one lone woman, do to bring about such a momentous change? She was no Warrior of Light.
Seventh Astral Era -- Stormblood


Once again, inspiration came from Osrich Arkwright and his traveling companions. For who better to know what the world truly needed to make it better than those who had been among it? Consorting with the trio and Wazeze, it was decided that it would be not the sole burden of one of them to bring about this legacy, but all of them. To gather only the finest of rarities, the greatest of treasures, and keep them safe within hallowed walls so that they might see the next morning...This would be their new task. It would give them all they could ever want--Osrich the chance to hunt the rarest of beasts, Traique to find the most beautiful of songs, Jacan to train only the most powerful of warriors, Wazeze to create the most amazing trinkets, and Joyous to house knowledge from all over the world. Together...they would create the ultimate force to defend the greatest of prizes...wisdom.

Smoking pipe...with nothing in it: Joyous does not smoke, but her habit of chewing on things while bored does follow her no matter where she goes. She keeps this pipe to sate her issue, and will become incredibly cross if she loses it, it becomes dirty, or is damaged in some way.
