History

Childhood

Kaiden is a young man whom is half Elezen, and half Hyuran. He was born in Ishgard to Jiahoux and Elraine of House Fortessa, a noble house that has served House Dzmeal, one of the four high houses, for several generations. While his father rendered his services as a knight to the high house his mother, who had been talented in the medical field, rendered her services as a combat chirurgeon of the high house. Though he had been born in Ishgard Kaiden had been raised in the City-State of Gridania with his parents, having fled their homeland after both of his parents were declared heretics for conspiring with Heretics, thus being labeled Heretics themselves. A scheme that had been concocted by another noble house which served one of the other three high houses, a house known as House Ceauton. While unknown to the public and the four high houses, the two noble houses had been in a secret feud with one another for many years with House Ceauton acting as the main instigators of the feud.

Growing up in Gridania had been rather difficult for the half blood Elezen, many of the other children had looked one way and the others had looked a different way, he on the other hand had qualities that attributed to both, though not as tall as Elezen children he was a few ilms taller than the average Hyuran child. Where as those average hyuran children had rounded ears he had been born with the Elezens' signature pointed ears. Because of this Kaiden was not exactly sure where it was that he fitted in and because of that he usually kept to himself, he played alone, and when students ate together in between their lessons, Kaiden at alone. From time to time he would even be bullied by some of the more meaner children which only added more confusion as to where he stood within his surroundings. All of his problems seemed to have diminished however when he made his first first friend, a female Elezen by the name of Florine, a young woman who became like a sister to him. The two had practically become inseparable.

As the years past Kaidens' relationship with Florine would continue to grow, and like the older sister he seen Florine as, she would always stand up for him whenever his bullies came around to antagonize him. It had been through this girl that he began to make more, friends and as he done so he began to come out of his shell a bit more. The problems that he had before were slowly starting to dwindle to the point that it had become non-existent. None of the other children seemed to care for the fact that he was a half blood Elezen anymore which had been something that made him more happier than he was years prior. He had fully embraced the fact that he was someone who had been born with two different heritages.

Teen Years

By the time he entered his early teens, Kaiden had began developing interest in the use of martial combat, to be more precise he had gain an interest in using both the lance and the bow. He first began his teachings with his father as his very first instructor, having once been a knight of Ishgard, his father had taken the teachings rather seriously and with pride. On a day-to-day basis, when Kaiden was not learning more about Gridania, the elementals, and when he was not enjoying himself with his friends Kaiden had been out in the Shroud with his father, learning how to utilize the lance in combat. When not practicing with the lance he had been using the bow. While he did not grasp the concept of these two right away he had shown determination and the willingness to learn as much as he could in terms of fighting with both weapons. No matter what the weather had been like, Kaiden had trained to the best of his capabilities even in pouring rain, of course this had, in turn, gained his father the ire of his mother. It had been his desire to protect his home from anything that may have possed a threat to his home, his friends and his family.

Eventually, Kaiden would join the lancers guild in an attempt to improve on the basics he knew in terms of using the lance. Nothing much had changed, he continued to train on a daily basis whenever he was not learning nor hanging with his friends he spent his time training. One day, during one of his training assignments he and several other young lancers had been tasked with handling a growing number of Forest Funguar just outside the area of the Lifemend Stump, a simple and easy task. Kaiden and his peers managed to deal with most of the Funguars' but during the job he had tasked with chasing down a oddly colored Funguar and in so doing he had gotten seperated by his comrades. He managed to slay the creature but not before it released a fragrance, the scent would attract a boar which had been strayed from its kind.

Territorial, the boar attempted to attack him and a new fight would ensue. While he managed to hold his own to an extent things had taken a turn for the worse when he lost his weapon. Just as the boar was about to strike a defenseless Kaiden another beast, a blue eyed wolf that he assumed to have been one of the many wolfs that lingered around the Lifemend Stump had intervened and attacked the bore. Most likely it too, had been attracted to the fragrance the oddly colored Funguar released. Shortly after the arrival of the wolf his comrades arrived to support him. After accomplishing their assignment Kaiden and the other lancers returned to the guild to make there report. Since that day, he had made it a bit of a habit to visit the Lifemend Stump in search for the blue-eyed wolf, unfortunately he was unable to find the beast where he had encountered it. When Kaiden became old enough he decided to leave Gridania, wanting to see the rest of the realm, to experience things that he would not be able to see and experience just by staying in Gridania.

Adulthood

Kaiden began his travels by setting his sights on visiting Ul'dah, the city-state which resided with the desert of Thanalan. Believing his skills had been sufficient enough for his travels, he set off. When he got to Ul'dah he had immediately noticed the difference between the city in which he had been raised in and the one in which he now roamed. Of course, he understand the increase of the presence of refugees due to the calamity but his issues were not with them, it had been with some of the Ul'dahnians. After spending several days in Ul'dah he met and befriended a Auri woman by the name of Aubry Xavielan. The woman had become one, maybe the only, best-friend he had in Ul'dah. It had been through her that he found work with the group called The Shrouded Coffer. He had done a number of jobs for the company, mostly working in the shop as security to ensure that there had been no misdealing or any other problematic issues. During his time with the Shrouded Coffer he came across a Keeper woman, and her Chocobo, laying along the road to the Ul'dah's residential distract. Knowing full well the capabilities some of Ul'dah more... none to kind citizens were, he had taken it upon himself to bring the woman home, back to the coffer with him.

While tending to the woman he learned that her name had been Aly Fashonti, among other things. Since his initial meeting, and befriending of the woman, he began to see her more and more. Ultimately, that woman ended up joining and working for the coffer as a bartender that he had worked for as well. On the side, Kaiden and the female keeper would do a little work together on the side, as freelancers. The pair would mostly work in terms of dealing with dangerous monsters that lurked the wilds, as well as some more active ones that troubled merchants and other travelers. From time to time they would even work as escorts, ensuring shipments arrived at their destinations without any issues. He enjoyed every minute of it, more importantly he enjoyed spending his time with the woman. The longer they spent together the more he began to realize that he had truly loved the woman, with this realization their partnership even became a romantic relationship. Kaiden had believed that things were going pretty well, however, things for Aly had gotten bad with the learning of some of her families members deaths, and the arsen which took their lives. Kaiden was quick to realize the change within his mate but despite that he continued to support and stick by her side.

When found out that Aly's mentor, a man named Nico, had been attempting to do his lover serious harm Kaiden accompanied her sister to the location in which Aly had been said to been training with the Miqo'te. Unable to sit by and let the man bring any serious harm to the woman he Aly's sister attacked Nico in an attempt to fend him off. Though they had been successful in doing so in the end, all three were still scared. Aly had the mans initials carved into her arm, and Kaiden had received a small scar across his neck. When he had been discovered that Nico WAS the man responsible for the arsen which claimed the other members of his lovers family, and learning what she had been planning on doing he and her sister had proceeded to confront and stop her seeking out vengeance in order to fill a hole that she felt.

Working for Gloria, and Erel's deceit

Several weeks after the closure of The Shrouded Coffer, Kaiden began focusing on doing odd jobs for Aly and himself. For a time, finding any good well-paying jobs had proven to be more difficult than he had expected. During his daily visit to the job board within the Quicksand he came across a woman who introduced herself as Gloria Wilde, while he had been looking for work it had just so happened that she was looking for people to hire for a job. The woman had been a collector of antiques, from years past, such as grimoires, relics, and other trinkets. Kaiden so working for the woman as an opportunity to earn some gil his self and his lover. After getting more details on what she had been after he decided to take on the job of acquire an old grimoire.

Joined by Aly, Kaiden met back up with Gloria in the Bentbranch Meadows. The trio ventured to Haukke Manor where Gloria claimed the grimoire she after had been kept within the confines of the manor. Kaiden and Aly made quick work of the Voidsent which were lurking around the grounds of the manor before venturing inside with the woman. Once they were inside he came across several monsters and even more, a bit more dangerous Voidsent, each one showing signs of respect towards the woman whom he and Aly had been working for. At first Kaiden had simply shrugged the familiarity off as nothing more but a trick. It was not until they reached the bedchambers of the one who owned the manor that they found that which the woman had been looking for, but alas it resided within the grasp of yet another woman. It was not until a brief talk, and conversation, that everything had come to light. Gloria had truly been a voidsent by the name of Erel, who had been using the human body as a vassal. While she had truly been after the grimoire she had decided to try and take him as a servant. Although Kaiden and Aly both attempted to defeat the woman she had proven to be much stronger than both. He was bound by the woman's magic and hurled into a vortex that she created while his lover was locked within the confines of Haukke Manor.

Reemergence, and possession

After several days of being held in captivity, tortured and exposed to Erel's power, and the influence of The Void, Kaiden emerged with an entirely altered look. His once black hair had been completely turned white various markings rested upon his face with most being completely covered by a visor. In order to prove that he belonged to the voidsent he was made to combat his lover. Controlled by a Voidsent by the name of Severis, he humored the woman's request and initially attacked the keeper, however, the voidsent which possessed Kaiden was mostly toyed with Aly, testing his capabilities while learning about hers. Due to the woman being weaker than usually the 'playing' had been unexpectedly one-sided. When ordered to finish her off Severis hesitated by Kaiden's will. And a deal the two had formed in secret. The moment Erel lowered her guard Severis lashed out at her but hurling the lance directly at her. Though Aly wanted Kaiden to return to her, and Erel wanted Severis to do the same, the voidsent which possessed the half bloods body decided to go off on his own as a means to explore a world he had been new to.

Throughout their travel Kaiden and his voidsent half communicated with one another more as they shared the one body. However, after his confrontation with the formers mate, Severis had chosen to reside 'within' giving control to Kaiden for a time. During their trip a group of bandits attempted to ambush them in Raincatcher's Gully, attempting to rob what they perceived as a simple traveler. While Kaiden had managed to deal with two of the bandits a third managed to catch him off-guard, this did not sit well with Severis who once more took control. Using what voidish abilities he held he subdued the bandit, but he was not done, angered that Kaiden... his vassal had been harmed, Severis contemplated slaughtering all three bandits and leaving their remains for the Coeurls to fight over. After being persuaded he allowed the men to live, but stole their weapons and gil.
