Backstory

Khachi was born the only daughter of the chieftain of a small, nomadic Xaela tribe in Doma. With her mother having passed away shortly after birth, her father was left as the only one to care for her as she grew up. Although he had been hoping for a son to take over as chieftain, Khachi's father loved and cared for her just the same. From a young age, he trained Khachi in the way of the lance- just as he would have done if she had been born male. A large part of her everyday life during her younger years was the hours spent training with her father, and most of Khachi's free time as a child was spent reading a number of books depecting Ishgardian dragoons. That was where she became entranced and enamored by the mysterious, almost other-wordly dragonslayers- and she almost looked up to them, despite having never met a dragoon or even visited Eorzea.

Although Khachi's father tried his best to please the people of his tribe, a large number of those under him detested the kind and gentle way in which he dealt with other tribes. When at all possible, he preferred to deal peacefully with Raen settlements and fellow Xaela tribes. Of course, the latter wasn't always possible, and bloodshed did occur. On the night of Khachi's 12th birthday- shortly after dinner, her father started to have intermittent surges of pain shoot through his body. Eventually, it went from being a phasing pain to a constant one- with the tribe's shaman unable to figure out exactly what was causing it as the man writhed in pain on his bed. It took only a few hours before, right in front of Khachi's eyes, her father passed away in one of the most painful ways possible. His last words, audible to all those watching his demise, were; "I want Khachi to take over."

The death of her father hit Khachi hard. He was the only person she had any connection to in the entire tribe ... And he was gone. There was no sleep for Khachi that night, or the following night. Eventually, sick of sitting in her bed, unable to sleep, Khachi donned her armor and wielded her father's spear to train. It was the only thing she knew would take her mind to a distant place, away from what had occurred two nights prior. And it worked, somewhat. She spent many hours that night practicing her skills against a training dummy on the edge of camp. Barely an hour into her session, however, Khachi was approached by three of the tribe's most powerful lancers.

"You think we're going to let you take over? As if. We'll make you disappear just like your father."

It all clicked in that moment. Her father's death was no accident; the tribe's gradually building hostility toward him, the way many members had casually began to ignore his requests during the last few weeks of his life ... She knew exactly what happened. Fury raged through her form, and despite wanting to fight and kill her father's murderers, Khachi could do nothing but run. She couldn't hope to take on the tribe's best lancers on her own. The young Au Ra disappeared into the forest- abandoning all her possessions and the people she used to consider family.

Eorzea

Khachi spent months on her own; betrayed by her tribe, and slandered as a criminal that poisoned her father's food in order to take his place as chieftain. Every Xaela tribe was out to kill her and claim the bounty on her head. With Doma no longer safe, Khachi was left with a choice; Eorzea or Garlemald? Although Doma was rather sheltered from outside affairs, even she knew which choice was the right one.

With nothing but her father's lance and a rusty suit of chainmail armor to her name, Khachi boarded a Highlander trade ship bound for Limsa Lominsa- paying for her fare by providing security and grunt work for the crew. She spent the first few months after her arrival in Eorzea doing odd jobs in an attempt to accustom herself with Eorzean culture- clearing pests from farms, providing security for caravans, delivering packages, and defending small settlements from beasts. Her travels eventually brought her to Ul'dah, where, after careful consideration, she enlisted with the Immortal Flames.

The Immortal Flames

Khachi never expected to become a soldier when she first arrived in Eorzea, but soon enough, she realized that the work of an adventurer was too unpredictable and inconsistent to reliably make a living. After enlisting with the Immortal Flames and undergoing basic training, she was assigned to a moderately-sized unit tasked with patrolling and protecting the outskirts of Ul'dah from an ever-increasing amount of monsters and beastmen. It was there that Khachi bonded with others for the first time since she abandoned her tribe in Doma; she became close with many of her fellow soldiers- enough to even call them friends. For once, she felt companionship and as though she belonged in Eorzea, and the horrible events from her childhood became diluted with her newfound friendships.

The Calamity

Nothing could last forever. Before long, Eorzea was presented with a threat that make the primals looks like hokes. The lesser moon, Dalamud, began inching closer and closer as time went on, and the ongoing war with the Garleans only grew worse. When the time to engage the Garlean Empire on the plains of Carteneau in a final effort to save Eorzea came, Khachi's unit was assigned as a forward assault group alongside a team of Serpent lancers and Maelstrom marauders. They engaged the Garlean threat head-on, unsure if their actions would spare Eorzea from the impending doom ... But Khachi didn't care. Eorzea was more a home to her than Doma, and she would do everything in her power to ensure nothing its safety.

Before long, however, the small embers of hope for Eorzea's protection were crushed as the Elder Primal, Bahamut, emerged from the shell of Dalamud while its shards rained down upon the realm. Soldiers; Garlean and Eorzean, fled in all directions as they tried to escape the fiery judgement of the primal. Khachi was frozen on the spot, unable to move even as her companions fled around her. A scream brought her out of the trance. Glancing around, she realized that flames were spreading across the battlefield, taking soul after soul with them. Her friends were no different. Khachi, frozen in fear and horror, could only watch helplessly as every last member of her unit was burned alive in their armor. The screaming of friends, allies, and enemies alike penetrated her mind.

Khachi awoke several days later in a cold-sweat, under the care of a Serpent conjurer. He explained that he had barely managed to pull her unconscious form from the battlefield just before the primal's flames consumed all. Though the conjurer recommended that she rest for a while longer, Khachi couldn't even consider the thought. Every time she closed her eyes, her vision was filled with the burning forms of her allies ... Her friends.

The girl never truly recovered from the incident, and withdrew entirely from social situations even after she was discharged from the care of the Alliance's conjurers. For some time, she remained in the Immortal Flames' barracks, unsure of where exactly her life was supposed to go. Everything had been taken from her- her comrades, her friends ... And her family. Once again, she found herself in exactly the same position she was in when she first arrived in Eorzea. A disheveled, lost girl with nowhere to turn. After some time, she started serving the Flames again, but no longer felt the sense of camaraderie she normally felt. At that moment, she had turned into an emotionless husk of her former self. The only shred of her original personality that remained was that undying respect and admiration of Ishgardian dragoons.

Current

Khachi is still loyally serving the Immortal Flames, however, she declines to join a particular unit any time the opportunity arises. Fearful of companionship only to find loss, Khachi keeps to herself and is almost entirely silent. Alongside her service to the Flames, she does idle work as an adventurer.

Appearance

Khachi is a relatively short, lightly-built Xaela Au Ra with dark purple hair that, when down, trails down to her lower back. She usually wears it in a ponytail.

Personality

Khachi is a a silent and independent girl; refusing to rely on the support of anybody and preferring to keep to herself. She is extremely hesitant to bond or become close to anybody due to a fear of loss, and often appears emotionless and stale in conversation. Despite her exterior attitude, however, Khachi is still a teenage girl on the inside- one that is still trying to cope with the loss of her father and comrades.

Although it doesn't show, Khachi has a slight indirect suicide complex. A part of her wants to die, however, she refuses to do it herself or simply throw her life away.

Combat

General

Khachi is highly skilled in the use of lances, spears, and other types of polearms- both from a mounted position on a Chocobo, and on foot- with the latter being her specialty. She invokes a unique fighting style taught to her by her father, which combines traditional lancer techniques with those of a lost Xaela tribe. Alongside her lance skills, Khachi is moderately skilled in the use of shortswords, longswords, daggers, and battleaxes, yet lacks in experience with any type of magic or ranged weapon.
