Backstory

Born heir to the bloodline of the Beaumont's esteemed Dragoons in the service of Ishgard's Temple Knights he was the only son of the only father left of his surname, the travelled and bloodthirsty Leofric Beaumont. It is Lianaux's understanding that Leofric was driven mad when his wife was poisoned in an attempt to lure him away from his post to allow a Dravanian offensive to break Ishgard's ranks without facing his wrath, and his wife's death lead him to both paranoia and vengeful madness. Lianaux recalls very little of his father or his surname's legacy, but he has been commented by Captain Bogard to be a "A one-man slayer of dragon and god alike."

Lianaux was sent away by his father during his early childhood, Leofric now troubled with the Temple Knights in his attempts to carry out his personal vendetta against the Dravanian responsible for his damnation and was evidently mentally unstable from trauma. He grew to be an unruly son with a penchant for troublemaking, and escaped from a caravan intended to leave him with caretakers in Gridania to wander to Limsa Lominsa and to meet his surrogate uncle, the one friend of Leofric Beaumont -- the captain of the Storm's Rage vessel, The Roegadyn marauder Bogard.

This was not as straightforward as Lianaux had originally imagined, travelling through towns and taverns as a pickpocket with a sly sense of humour that earned his a punch in the jaw more often than not. Midway through his venture he was recruited into a travelling actor's band -- a front for the transport of contraband. Lianaux enjoyed the life of vices and thought of little in the long term until his band was ambushed and Lianaux thrown in jail. His trial by combat in the coliseum of Ul'dah scarred his body more than the lashes ever did, and he emerged recognized for his viciousness with liberty once again. Once more, on the road.

Lianaux finally arrived to a town of his dreams -- Limsa Lominsa. Crawling with men of battle and liberty, he grew to love the town for its faults and found the old Captain Bogard retired as a shoemaker in the city. It wasn't until Lianaux learned to craft the perfect pair of boots that Bogard would be convinced to run one last voyage of the mighty Storm's Rage that once carried Leofric into distant lands for battle in what Bogard remembers as better times.

Bogard was a brutal mentor to an already crafty Lianaux, believing the Storm's Rage needed one more voyage to see before he retired from age. Bogard saw a young man unscathed by the sanctimony of Ishgard and believed he would slay beasts in the name of his captain that even Leofric would stagger to face. So it would be that Bogard's last few years would be spent on the sea mentoring "Lane" in the ways of being a pirate. He was away from Eorzea at the time of the calamity. Lane absorbed the morals and pirate's wisdom of his captain faithfully and developed an acrobatic skill with a greataxe. He was indeed Leofric's son in the eyes of Bogard, yet he spoke little of his father. "We're our own men out here." The Storm's Rage capsized, and Bogard died "proud to die like a man of the sea" not far off of the dock of Limsa Lominsa, Lianaux does not speak of this incident in detail.

Lane spent some time in La Noscea as a fisherman in his spare time, mostly living off of the money made from the Storm's Rage's many profitable hauls entrusted to him by Bogard. He eventually wandered back onto the mainland to hunt the landwalking beasts of Thanalan, believing he would make more money for independent work. Lianaux was not yet ready to board another ship's crew.

He thinks little of the forsaken surname he bears and what it means to hail from the Beaumont line, but he's always supposed sooner or later he would encounter his father's true fate. Lane is boasting and proud in conversation, prone to speaking his mind and backing his words with his axe. Still, he is deceptively observing past his demeanor.

Relationships

Non-Player Characters

  • Leofric Beaumont: Lianaux's father. Lianaux was sent away and effectively disowned at the dawn of his teen years by his father due to a rapidly destabilizing mental state after the death of his wife Arlelle.
  • Arlelle Beaumont: Lianaux's mother. Poisoned by an unknown person associated with the Dravanians, Lianaux distantly remembers his mother.
  • "Bogard": A Roegadyn marauder famed for the monster hunter crew aboard the Storm's Rage. Was drawn out of retirement by Lianaux in his elder years, Bogard was Lianaux's mentor until his death. Bogard was the captain of the ship that carried Leofric to battle in distant lands, considered as strong as his Dragoon companion.

  • N'darun Tia: "You'll need to train plenty to wield a fiddly stick like that one next to me!"
  • Rihxo Matoi: "Bogard told me much of the Matoi family's skill...and to respect that one no matter who. I did always enjoy the chocolate."

Rumors

  • "Isn't that Bogard's boy? I hadn't heard anyone came out of the sink alive." - Baderon.
  • "I remember a man like that one fighting in the arena...ripped the head off his opponent for his freedom." - Ul'dahn coliseum spectator (rare).
