Lieal Fhey (born 28th Sun of the 4th Astral Moon), also known to some as U'lieal Fhey (prior to, and during, her training in Gridania) or Lea, has described herself as a "travelling hermit" who traverses Eorzea in search of work. Having been trained by Gridania's Conjurers Guild during her young adult years, she now offers her services as a healer to those in need.

APPEARANCE

Age 23 (present)

Lieal possesses the pale skin, pale hair and pale eyes characteristic to her Keeper clan. Despite being born of a Seeker mother, the traits prominent in the Seeker clans did not present themselves visibly in Lieal. One possible manifestation of these genes is her skin being slightly more sun-resistant than that of a regular Keeper, allowing for her to travel in places such as Thanalan with more ease.

Eyes: pale blue with large pupils.

Hair color/style: pale blond, typically swept back into a half braid or a long ponytail; a black streak runs alongside her left side.

Clothes: Depending on where she is currently travelling or residing, Lieal will either wear a more conservative look befitting of a scholar (grey and white tunic, black wool pants and brown/black ankle boots) or a healer's garb reminiscent of an Ul'Dahn girl's dancing outfit, of a long white skirt and a midriff-baring bikini top.

Accessories: She wraps a fanciful bow around her neck that she had splurged on, and is fond of bracelets and rings. She wears little due to her frugal finances and wears a circlet on her brow on most occasions.

Weapon: She carries a long wooden staff wrapped in white cloth that ends in two imitations of branches spouting. The staff is decorated with several ribbons she has added as her own personal touch.

ABOUT

PERSONALITY

Lieal developed a sense of professionalism that she prides herself on during her time as an Ul'Dahn dancing girl. Having performed for crowds ranging from beggars, to commoners and even to the high society of Ul'Dah, her attention to detail and body language is exemplar. From her time spent dancing in the company of noble ladies, in particular, Lieal has learned to emulate the airs and graces they express and uses it to her advantage during her current job as a Conjurer. This professionalism usually translates to a polite and self-condifent mask that she presents to the world. Her emotions are often kept in check to the extent where she does not know how to deal with the extremes, and so typically buries them deep within and refuses to deal with them completely until forced to do so.
In her personal life, Lieal is socially awkward with anyone interested in her and not what services she can offer them - having depended on her mother for company for the majority of her life, the woman's disappearance after The Calamity hit her hard and caused her to withdraw even further into her shell. Studying in The Conjurers Guild forced her to expose herself to the company of others, whom she dealt with as little as possible. Despite her efforts to be solitary, several friendships formed between her and others in the city. She treasures these friendships dearly, but often falls back into her typical awkward graces when revisiting them after spending several moons travelling alone. Her lack of social knowledge presents itself most clearly when she is embarrassed, which is often enough that she has accepted the fact that her pale skin will feature most prominently the easy blushes that come.
Beneath the graceful professionalism contradicting her social awkwardness, Lieal remains a child at heart - she had little to no childhood in Ul'Dah, and still holds a large curiosity for the world. Strains of immature behavior - pouting, sulking, and unbridled excitement, for one - appear when her mask has been put down in the company of friends. In particular, Lieal has the stubbornness of a young child and typically requires either a very logical persuasion, or time for her to sort through her own arguments if one wishes to change her mind. Despite her strong will, she is not close-minded on most topics (she would be very skeptical if someone tried to convince her of the good Ul'Dah politics do, however) and is willing to alter her opinion as long as there is verifiable evidence behind it.
Having been taught by her mother (who served as a courier and merchant between the U tribe and Ul'Dah) to read, Lieal had very few books to actually get her hands on growing up and now enjoys making up for the time lost. Her composure typically drops the moment she has her nose buried in an interesting tome, and she is likely to walk into walls and other objects in her path due to her lapse in attention. Her appetite for books in insatiable and she would prefer nothing else than to be shut away in a library for days at a time.
A flaw she considers within herself, but has never overcome, is the vanity with which she takes care of her appearance. Rarely one to express fuss at matted hair or dirty skin, both of which come with her job, she nevertheless tries her best to bathe and care for her appearance whenever possible. If a fragranted bath came alongside a library full of books, Lieal would be very stubborn indeed when asked to leave. Due to the frugality on which she and her mother lived on, she allows herself such luxuries only after much consideration (and internal grumbling about the pros and cons of spending her hard-earned gil).
She is a very private person and reacts rudely whenever strangers question her about her life or her past. While not ashamed of her life in poverty and previous occupation as one of many Ul'Dahn dancing girls, she worries that such knowledge would impede society's ability to see her as a capable healer. She has very little patience for idiocy and politics, as well as self-induced ignorance. She has, however, little desire to "educate" others and prefers to leave them be and not spend her time in their company.

BIOGRAPHY

Childhood

Her mother had been exiled from the U tribe of the Sagolii Desert soon after the birth of Lieal. Facing the charges of breeding outside the tribe - and with a Keeper traveler passing through the area, especially - Lieal has never seen the home that used to be her mother's. The entirety of her childhood took place on the streets of Ul'Dah, where her mother found work as one of the many dancing girls and did her best to provide them with enough shelter and food. Eventually the two came to rent a dingy apartment within Pearl Lane, where they resided until Lieal's leave for Gridania.
Growing up, Lieal often watched her mother's public performances and soon became enchanted with the art of dance itself and the grace the dancers possessed. Her early exposure to the leery faces and grabbing hands of those watching made her dislike crowds and people in general, and she learned to avoid both as much as possible. She had difficulty making friends with any of the other street urchins, where street politics ran abound, and so relied on her mother for company and education. Her mother, having been first a huntress within her tribe and afterwards an emissary to Ul'Dah for trading, managed to teach Lieal the basics of Eorzean history, writing, and reading that had been passed on through the tribe.
Lieal was very much a sullen and quiet child when not around her mother, and envied the many toys and sparkling jewelry that sat for sale amongst Emerald Lane's stalls. Her mother had instilled a strong sense of morals within Lieal and so the girl never took to thievery, but did entertain wild dreams of adventure and recognition. She spent most of her time out of the burning sun of Thanalan and inside their apartment, daydreaming and entertaining herself with what little they had while her mother worked.

Teenage

Lieal saw little future for herself and soon became an apprentice Ul'Dahn dancing girl at the age of fourteen, something which her mother did not approve but could see the necessity of. Living as they did required as much as income as possible, and Lieal's mother was beginning to run herself ragged with her work and side jobs (which Lieal never dared question). Few people appreciated a Miqo'te reaching past her prime and so Lieal began to learn the art of dance from the guild operating itself at Pearl Lane. During this time she began to form the mask that would soon consume her almost entirely, learning from the observing people how to conduct herself in such a manner where her presence would be requested in the future. The fellow dancers taught her how to politely avoid the hands reaching out for her, how to smile and laugh and reprimand kindly that the coin did not afford them such privilege. Lieal, having never conducted herself well before people, found difficulty in learning the easiness with which the other girls did so: she was determined, however, and forced herself past her dislike for socializing until she could act as well as the other young apprentices.
She was only eighteen when The Calamity happened, and having been separated from her mother during the time of it due to work, never found her mother in the chaos afterwards. Their apartment had not been hit and so Lieal would wait out her nights and what free time during the day that she had, anxiously awaiting her mother's return; the woman had never come. Posters had been put up of her around the city boards, joining the multitude already posted for missing family members and friends. Three moons passed as Lieal refused to give up and instead overworked herself in an attempt to keep the payments for the apartment going, believing that one day her mother would return to her. It was then that a Conjurer from Gridania had approached her, declaring a summons from the Guild due to the blood flowing in her veins - this was the first time Lieal had heard of her father being a Gridanian conjurer, as her mother had never talked of him. Giving up on her mother and wanting to flee from the memory of her at every turn in the city, she had his credentials verified with Mistress Momodi of The Quicksand Inn before gathering what little she owned and setting off for The Black Shroud.
She studied at The Conjurers Guild for several years before setting out on her own at the age of almost twenty-two. The Guild was unhappy to let her go outside of The Black Shroud and the Elementals' will, but eventually relented; she would not be welcomed back, but would not be detained either. The decision suited Lieal just fine, who had grown fed up with the Guild's pick-and-choose political method of who to provide healing for and wished to see the rest of Eorzea. Giving up what studies remained, the Miqo'te once again gathered what she owned and set out on an air-ship to the city-state of Limsa Lominsa.

Present

Having been on the road for nearly two years now, Lieal had at last been made to return to the city of Ul'Dah which she specifically been avoiding. There was little necessity for her at Thanalan and the city remained the one place she had not visited; her emptying coin purse overrode any personal dislike she had for her once-home. She is currently residing at The Quicksand, where the rumour mill had spread that one their own lowly dancing girls has returned as a learned mage.
