Lumenos Avalon

L'uhmen Tia (leea-mehn), now more commonly known as Lumenos Avalon (loo-muhn-ohs), is a Thanalanian miqo'te red mage. He currently serves as a freelancing adventurer, often specializing in the extermination of voidsent. He is also known to be an expert of thaumaturgy and offers tutelage to aspiring students when he's not busy studying red magic and lost civilizations such as the Allagan Empire and Mhach.

Character

General

Despite Lumenos primarily being known as a highly-skilled thaumaturge, he has had some time practicing magic as an arcanist and has more recently undergone marauder training. Caring for little else other than self-improvement and leaving behind an impactful legacy, he often tends to seclude himself from others who do not share his goals or ideals and will instead prefer to spend his time (often alone) studying all manners of thaumaturgy, arcanima and other forms of aether manipulation as well as honing his abilities in both a physical and mental aspect. Often times, he will dedicate a portion of his time to pursuing whatever goals that catch his interest, often aggressively so, until they are achieved. At which point, he may tend to show a sudden disinterest if he feels that he can gain no further insight or usefulness. As such, he is known to take a number of occupations from serving as a bodyguard to instructing students in the practice and study of thaumaturgy.

Appearance

The olive-skinned mage is of average height for a miqo'te (5'6" or 167.64 cm) and appears to be somewhat further into his years than some other male miqo'te that often roam the land of Eorzea, likely being in his late twenties to mid-thirties. His facial features are sharp yet coarse, and there are a few faint signs of age and stress underlying his golden eyes. Lumenos sports a beard along the entire length of his jawline and into his black hair which sport parted bangs along the sides of his visage. Lumenos's time spent adventuring, hunting voidsent and training within the Marauders' Guild has left him with a trim, toned physique, though the body shape is more notable than his muscle definition as he normally wears a leather coat that appears to be of Allagan design. His trousers and boots are of Ishgardian design.

Personality

Quiet and reserved, Lumenos often keeps to himself, preferring research, study and self-improvement over social interaction. Because of this and despite his intelligence, he may speak in an arrogant if not offensive manner. It is for that reason that people may find him unapproachable, confusing or standoffish, though usually this tends to be of no concern if the miqo'te feels that a person is of little consequence or importance to him. Despite his preference for seclusion, he is not one to openly reject company or participation of social gatherings, events and occasions.

History

Tribal Life

Born into the Viper tribe, Lumenos was raised to become a hunter. However, his preference for solitude often meant that he did not work well with others. As a result, he hunted on his own, though without aid from his fellow tribesmen, his spoils were often not enough to sustain more than a few people at a time. His reputation for being anti-social and difficult to work with often brought ridicule and disdain from others, which only further reinforced the miqo'te's desire to stay secluded. Five years before the Calamity, Lumenos bore witness as his father, L'hemak Nunh was challenged to a duel by a Tia. The fight lasted several hours until L'hemak was fatally wounded, thus entitling the challenger with the surname and privilege of Nunh. Infuriated by the turn of events, Lumenos left the tribe and traveled to Ul'dah where he would study thaumaturgy and devoted what precious free time he had to rigorous physical training within the Marauders' Guild, vowing to return when he believed himself capable of avenging his father.

A Realm Reborn to Heavensward

After the events of the Calamity, however, Lumenos felt a loss of interest in his thirst for revenge. Unable to determine the cause of his change of heart, the miqo'te continued to improve his aptitude for thaumaturgy, spending another year within Arrzaneth Ossuary under the tutelage of the five lalafellin guildmasters of the Thaumaturges' Guild before eventually leaving to further his studies abroad after hearing rumors of the resurgence of black magic. Lumenos further consumed the majority of his time to research as well as undergoing employment within a number of adventuring free companies as a means of funding. Due to his growing carelessness, however, Lumenos has been nearly imprisoned from his openness in studying the forbidden school of magic during his periods of employment. Because of this, he has become much more tight-lipped about his research and has also been looking into alternative forms of advanced magic ever since.

Affinity for the Red

Prior to the Ala Mhigan Resistance, Lumenos fell back into seclusion. At the time, sightings of the miqo'te were few and far in-between, though those who saw him took notice that he tended to be engrossed with reading a particular tome. After Ala Mhigo and Doma became liberated, his outings became much more frequent, and he eventually began to sport a rapier and a focus in his possession, two items that are now commonly associated with red mages after the uprising of a school of magic once thought to be lost to the ages if not a mere myth. It is currently unknown whether or not Lumenos is directly associated with X'rhun Tia, a miqo'te who is currently teaching new students and is considered to be the leader of the fabled but now-defunct Crimson Duelists. However, Lumenos frequently references X'rhun when speaking about his current studies of red magic, often sharing a neutral opinion of his teacher.

Combat

General

Lumenos primarily focuses on magical combat either through the chaotic elements of frost, fire and lightning or the refined scholarly techniques of unaspected, methodically procured aether, though he has far more experience using the former over the latter. Recent marauder training has also allowed him to be able to hold his own in close-range combat, though any tried and true axe-wielder from the Maelstrom far surpasses him in that regard.

• Like all miqo'te, he is commonly mistaken to favor fish as his meat of choice. This is not true, however, as he is often found to be eating aldgoat the most as well as other exotic dishes.
