Lumenos Avalon

L'uhmen Tia (leea-mehn), now more commonly known as Lumenos Avalon (loo-mehn-ohs), is a Thanalanian miqo'te red mage. He currently serves as a freelancing, often specializing in the extermination of voidsent. He is also known to be an expert of thaumaturgy and offers tutelage to aspiring students when he is not spending time studying red magic and lost civilizations such as the Allagan Empire and Mhach.

Character

General

Having cared for little else other than self-improvement and leaving behind an impactful legacy, Lumenos often tended to chastise or seclude himself from others who did not share his goals or ideals and preferred to spend his time studying all manners of thaumaturgy, arcanima and other forms of aether manipulation instead. However, over time, Lumenos has begun to warm up to people, if only just enough to not seem completely uncaring for others, as is shown by his recent entrepreneurial efforts in founding his own adventuring company, aptly known as Avalon Venture Co.

More often than not, he can be spotted in the midst honing his abilities in both a physical and mental aspect. Having a determined personality, he will dedicate a portion of his time to pursuing whatever goals that catch his interest, often aggressively so, until they are achieved. As a result, he may show a sudden disinterest in other aspects of his life, but he may lose interest in his current endeavors if he feels that he can gain no further insight or usefulness from those goals. As such, he is known to take a number of varying occupations that often involve magic in some manner.

Appearance

The olive-skinned mage stands at 5'10" (177.8 cm) and appears to be somewhat further into his years than some of the other male miqo'te that roam the land of Eorzea. Records dictate that he is 28 years old. His facial features are sharp yet rugged, and there are a few faint signs of age and stress underlying his golden eyes. Lumenos sports a beard along the entire length of his jawline and into his black hair with parted bangs along the sides of his visage. Lumenos's time spent adventuring, hunting voidsent and training within the Marauders' Guild has left him with a trimmed, toned physique, though the body shape is more notable than his muscle definition. Lumenos normally wears a leather jacket, gloves and a black undershirt that appears to be of Allagan design, though his trousers and boots bear the signs of a more Ishgardian influence.

Personality

Quiet and reserved, Lumenos often keeps to himself, preferring research, his studies and self-improvement over social interaction. Because of this and despite his intelligence, he may speak in an arrogant if not offensive manner. It is for that reason that people may find him unapproachable, aggravating or standoffish, though usually this tends to be of no concern if the miqo'te feels that a person is of little consequence or importance to him. Despite his preference for seclusion, he is not one to openly reject company or participation of social gatherings and public events.

History

Tribal Life

Born into the Viper tribe, Lumenos was raised to become a hunter. However, his preference for solitude meant that he often did not work well with others. As a result, he hunted on his own, though without aid from his fellow tribesmen, his spoils were often not enough to sustain more than a few people at a time. His reputation for being solitary and difficult to work with often brought ridicule and disdain from others, which only further reinforced the miqo'te's desire to be alone. Five years before the Calamity, Lumenos bore witness as his father, L'hemak Nunh was challenged to a duel by a Tia for breeding rights. The fight lasted several hours until L'hemak was fatally wounded, thus entitling the challenger with the surname and privilege of Nunh. Infuriated by the turn of events, Lumenos left the tribe and traveled to Ul'dah where he studied thaumaturgy and devoted what precious free time he had to rigorous physical training within the Marauders' Guild, vowing to return when he believed himself capable of avenging his father.

A Realm Reborn to Heavensward

After the events of the Calamity, however, Lumenos felt a loss of interest in his thirst for revenge. Unable to determine the cause of his change of heart, the miqo'te continued to improve his aptitude for thaumaturgy, spending another year within the Arrzaneth Ossuary under the tutelage of the five lalafellin guildmasters of the Thaumaturges' Guild before eventually leaving to further his studies abroad after hearing rumors of the resurgence of black magic. Lumenos further consumed the majority of his time to research, undergoing employment through adventuring free companies, private individuals as a bodyguard and researcher and extermination of voidsent as means of funding.

Over time, Lumenos became increasingly adept with thaumaturgy, allowing him to divert some of his attention to studying arcanima and undergoing further training within the Marauders' Guild. He also began looking into the history of the Allagan Empire with a particular interest in the technology and relics that were left behind. Eventually, Lumenos began to dabble in void magic, repurposing an old storage facility in Azys Lla into a laboratory where he bred and harvested bombs for their cores with the intention of using them to augment and empower his magic. Constant use of this method began to corrupt the miqo'te's aether, and as a result, his behavior and demeanor began to take a more malicious and aggressive turn, much to both his and his friends' dismay. In order to restore his aether to normal, he sought out a number of healers who possibly knew a way to expunge voidsent essence from an afflicted individual. His search led him to an Au Ra who performed an exorcising ritual, though the ritual itself came at the cost of shortening the miqo'te's lifespan albeit by a small margin. Due to his growing carelessness in his attempts to gain more knowledge and power, however, Lumenos was nearly imprisoned from his openness in studying forbidden magic during his periods of employment. Because of this, he became become much more tight-lipped and secretive about his research.

Affinity for the Red

Prior to the Ala Mhigan Resistance, Lumenos fell back into seclusion. At the time, sightings of the miqo'te were few and far in-between, though those who saw him took notice that he tended to be engrossed with reading tomes regarding conjury, a school of magic that he once dismissed and completely ignored earlier in his years. After Ala Mhigo and Doma became liberated, his outings became much more frequent, and he eventually began to sport a rapier and a focus in his possession, two items that are now commonly associated with red mages after the uprising of its associating school that was once thought to be lost to the ages if not a mere myth. It is currently unknown whether or not Lumenos is directly associated with X'rhun Tia, a miqo'te who is currently teaching new students and is considered to be the leader of the fabled but now-defunct Crimson Duelists. However, Lumenos frequently references X'rhun when speaking about his current studies of red magic, often expressing a neutral if not apathetic opinion of him.

Combat

General

During his days as a thaumaturge, Lumenos primarily focused on magical combat either through the chaotic elements of frost, fire and lightning, and he often implemented a portion of arcanima when the situation called for it, though he has far more experience using the former over the latter. Time spent training as a marauder also allowed him to be able to hold his own in close-range combat. Both have contributed in one way or another to Lumenos's rapidly increasing skill as a red mage. However, given his lack of experience with conjury as of late, he often has trouble maintaining balance between both black and white mana, a crucial technique in mastering red magic.

Common Rumors

• Because he is often fascinated by bombs and is known for his reputation as a skilled thaumaturge, people often believe that Lumenos consorts with voidsent.
• It is said that Lumenos is a regular customer of the Aesthetician as his hairstyle changes frequently.
• Like all miqo'te, he is commonly mistaken to favor fish as his meat of choice. This is not true, however, as he is often found to be eating aldgoat the most as well as other, more exotic dishes.

• Lumenos has been spotted with a black coeurl tailing him as of late. It's assumed that this feline is his pet as he acknowledges its presence and refers to it as "Eris".
• There have been reports of Lumenos walking about Ul'dah as a lalafell as both have similar choices of hairstyles, fashion, eye color and skin color, though this could merely be just a coincidence.
• Rumors have gone about suggesting that Lumenos has a preference for Keeper women, though he denies such claims when mentioned.
