History

Melody's mercantile parents fell into near poverty right after the Calamity, when she and Brio were only six years old. They settled down in a tiny outlying town on the outskirts of Thanalan, where they turned an old decrepit stone building into a decent little hostel. They lucked out and always had travelers and adventurers staying with them. Melody remembers the Calamity happened and that it had terrified her and Brio. She remembers her parents evacuating out of Ul'dah and leaving all their possessions behind except for the bare necessities.

Melody's best memories are of life out in the backwoods of Thanalan, playing with Brio and other children who would pass through with their parent's caravans, and listening to stories about the world from the adventurers and travelers, especially those about the ancient city of Nym. She loved hearing elder travelers' grand tales of the scholars that helped protect the city with it's floating islands. It became a dream of hers to one day visit the ruins and help uncover more of the city's lore. One of the hostel's more frequent guests, an older Midlander man, took a liking to little Melody and her fascinations with Nym. On one of his stays, he surprised her with a very old tome. He told her if she could unlock its secrets, she could discover the truths of Nym one day.

Melody tried her hardest to learn and comprehend all the messages in this old book, but since she was only 10 when she recieved it, it took a couple years for her to fully comprehend all the information. What she discovered along the way was that this book was essentially the medical journal of a Nymian scholar. In it, the scholar wrote of the many common sicknesses and their treatments of patients throughout the years. Once it got closer to the end, the scholar began to write about an outbreak of peculiar symptoms. The last few pages were written with shaky hands described that all of the citizens had deteriorated into beings not like anything else. The last sentences were smudged with what could only be tear stains, and were un-readable.

A year or so after Melody finished learning from the old tome ( age 13 ), the traveler came back after years of not being seen by anyone. It happened to be on Melody and Brio's 16th birthday. He gave her another present. This time it was a grimoire. He told her that with it she could help heal wounds and strengthen a person's constitution just like the scholars of old. Of course, she realized much later that it was a simple beginners grimiore, but still. The traveler stayed for a week and was kind enough to teach her about Aether and the basics on its use.

When she turned 19, Melody planned to leave home by herself and live her life to the fullest, finally free from her hyper-delusional twin brother and able to fulfill her dream of studying the ruins of Nym. But Brio said it first, and now she is stuck making sure he doesn't get himself stabbed in the dark hallways of Limsa Lominsa. Somehow, she still manages to find time to herself to learn restorative and protective magic with the help of the Arcanist's Guild. She is also helping to set up the Midnight Moogle restaurant which will hopefully set her and Brio up with consistent funds for years to come.

Personality

Melody is pretty kind most of the time, but she wears her emotions on her sleeve. She can be very sarcastic and jeering at times and is known by some to be a bit of a smart-arse. She loves her brother to death and will do anything to keep his delusional world in place. To her, it's whatever makes him the happiest. Given that she has to put up with a lot from Brio, she has a fair amount of patience.
