Basic Info

Eye Colour: Light Blue (Left Eye Red post Silver-Tear)

Miahtoux has spent most of his life adventuring, setting out from his hometown 6 years ago. Known as "Miah" by his friends, he spent a great deal of time trying to find his own place in the world. Given to questioning anything and everything, Miahtoux has never been afraid of venturing into the unknown in the name of the greater good, whether his own or others.

Personality

A generally reserved Elezen, Miahtoux prefers to lead by action. But don't let this fool you into thinking him headstrong. Miahtoux is often prone to periods of introspection and solitude. Seeking out areas with few people so he can sit in peace. Due to his relations with his brother, he can also often be found practising his martial and magical skills. He tends to be very sincere and stalwart in the protection of his friends, with a darker side manifested in occasional bursts of extreme anger when reminded of painful memories or faced with headstrong and stubborn people.

History

Childhood

The son of a heretic knight knight from Ishgard. Miahtoux was taken from Ishgard on the day of his birth. As the Temple Knights came to arrest his parents. His Mother died from the stresses of both birth and the threat to her and her husband. His father took him and his brother Juanoux to the mountains of Coerthas in an effort to flee the temple knights. Unfortunately, his father fell extremely ill by the time he got the two brothers to the village of Nophecon. Dying shortly after arrival. The two brothers came into the care of a Moon keeper called Rhin, the matriarch of the village. As they grew up it became clear that Juan had an affinity for the arts of combat. Regularly putting his strength to work for the sake of the village, whereas Miahtoux spent most of his time embroiled in the tales of forgotten heroes and deeds long past. Showing no remarkable talent in either the arts of magic or the arts of war. This lead to conflict between the two brothers. With Juan insisting that Miahtoux was deliberately not committing to the arts of war and was failing to do anything worthwhile within the village. A terrible argument ensued, permanently damaging the relationship between the two brothers, forcing Miahtoux to decide to abandon the village to travel the world to find his true calling.

Early Adventuring Career

Initially, Miahtoux plied his trade as a Bard in the City state of Limsa Lominsa. Using the many stories he had learnt as a child to impress and entertain the many Pirates and Adventurers of the city. It was during this time that he met the Young Lalafel Kakotopa Nonotopa, who was employed as his retainer. They quickly struck up a firm friendship, inspiring Kakotopa to become an adventurer as well. After running afoul of the Garlean Empire, Miahtoux and Kakotopa where forced to flee. With Miahtoux gravely wounded and Kakotopa struggling to heal him. By chance they encountered and Au Ra scholar named Reia Mihata. Reia's knowledge of medicine far exceeded Kakotopa's and with her help they managed to not only heal their wounds but escape back to Gridania. Wishing to help their cause, Reia joined the two friends in their travels.

The three travelled together for a little over a year before everything changed.

Phoenix Company

With the advent of the Calamity the world changed. For Miahtoux, this provided the catalyst for his own transformation. In an effort to provide some support to the rebuilding city states, Miahtoux, Kakotopa and Reia formed a small band of adventurers which they named Phoenix Company. Steadily they found and recruited 5 others to their cause: Laille Valeriant, Cornell Bayard, Lancefer Marinterre, Calm Mountain and Twin'ti Rhaz. For the better part of 4 years the company successfully fulfilled mission after mission at the request of many differing clients. Scouting for the grand companies and clearing areas of dangerous creatures where all in a days work for the band of friends. It was during this time that Reia and Miahtoux grew close, eventually coming to accept their feelings for each other. However, misfortune chose to rear its head when it was discovered that Reia's Parents had engaged her to be married to a Xaen Warrior, to prevent conflicts between her home village and one of the nomadic tribes. In order to prevent the marriage, Miahtoux challenged Reia's fiancée to a duel to the death, as per the Xaen Tribe's customs. By scraping a close victory against the warrior, Miahtoux was able to secure Reia's future, but was compelled to accept his engagement to her as a prize for winning the duel. Although neither of them minded this arrangement, they both resolved to not move their relationship any further forward as neither thought they were ready for a permanent commitment. With the City states coming into a new era of Stability, work for Phoenix Company began to decline in the last year of its existence. Each of the members reacted to the this differently. For Miahtoux, his experience gave him the prospect of a good position within the Grand Companies. He grew to accept that the need for the company was no longer as great as it was, and was prepared to move on with Reia at his side. However, not everyone was so accepting...

The Betrayal

The decline of Phoenix Company led to conflict between Miahtoux and Lancefer. With Lancefer blaming Miahtoux for the decline of the Companies success. The tension that had always existed between the two finally came to a head when Miahtoux announced to the company that he was planning to leave to make his position within the Maelstrom more concrete. Outraged, Lancefer accused Miahtoux of abandoning Phoenix Company. A fight ensued, the two former comrade battled for hours. When it became clear that neither was going to prevail against the other, it fell to the other members of the company to pick a side. When all sided with Miahtoux and supported his choice in light of the circumstances, Lancefer left in an outrage swearing revenge against Miahtoux and the rest of the Company. This departure marked the beginning of the end for the company. The true end began, with a fateful mission to Silver-Tear falls.

Post Silver-Tear Disaster

Tasked with investigating the crashed airship for new Garlean activity, the remaining 7 friends agreed to venture into the wreckage together. In the depths of the ruin, at the edge of the lake of aether at its heart the company encountered the dragon Erebus, who had taken the power of the lake to appear as a spectral version of the great Wyrm Midgardsormr. In an effort to protect the rest of the company from the Dragon, Miahtoux used his Astromancy to project a shield around the group. When Erebus's attack hit the shield it shattered, exposing Miahtoux to the effects of the magic. Incredibly none of the other members of the company where harmed, but Miahtoux was left forever changed. Erebus's magic had changed the nature of Miahtoux's connection with the Aetherial streams of Eorzea. The most obvious change being in the appearance of his left eye which had turned a deep red. The Dragon Erebus, also severely weakened from the backlash of the shield shattering came to call it "The Eye of Ruin" after the damage it had caused them both. The psychological effects of the Eye of Ruin left Miahtoux in a deep and detached state of introspection. The constant visions of death and decay made him obsess over the nature of the darkness in the world. With no way to reach out to him, the other members of the company felt there was no way they could help him. Even Reia, despite her best efforts was unable to pull him out of his isolated state. In an effort to find the answers he was looking for, Miahtoux resolved to journey to Dravania, in the hopes that the dragons might know more about the power that created the eye considering one of their own created it. He left a few months after recovering from the incident at Silver-Tear, without telling the rest of the Company where he was going.

The Eye of Ruin

The eye affects Miahtoux's perception of the world around him, showing a warped view of the world where only entropic Aether is visible. This present a perspective of the world in which everything appears decaying or dying. The eye represents a "knot" of Aether, twisting all outgoing spells around it. The result of this is that Miahtoux lost the ability to use Elemental Magic, every attempt to manipulate Aether into taking an elemental aspect is undone by the eye. The only exception to this is Magic that is elementally aspected externally. Such as Astromancy, who's elemental properties are defined by the constellation it is drawn from.

The Year In Dravania

In Dravania, Miahtoux met up with the new, smaller form of the Dragon Erebus. They travelled together throughout the lands of Dravania and Coerthas, in an attempt to find meaning in the darkness. It was in these years that Miahtoux discovered, and trained in, the ways of the Dark Knight. It was also in this year that Miahtoux discovered his true Heritage as an Ishgardian. The crimes of his parents resulted in him being held within The Vault to await trial. After proving his strength to the knights, it was Ser Aymeric that put forward the idea of Miahtoux working with the Temple Knights to save bystanders from the Dragonsong War. Miahtoux refused, under the grounds that he still didn't believe that Dragons were monsters to be slaughtered. It wasn't until the Dragonsong War ended that Miahtoux finally took Aymeric up on his offer and became an Honorary Knight of Ishgard. Still without answers however, Miahtoux felt compelled to continue his search for truth. With Erebus in tow the two spent weeks in the newly uncovered ruins of Azys La. It was here they discovered Erebus's connection to the Dragons Tiamat and Bahamut. Being one of their brood Erebus's magic was closely related to same doom driven magic that Bahamut possessed. A possible explanation as to the nature of the Eye of Ruin. Towards the end of the Miahtoux's year in Dravania, it became clear that Reia had begun sending mercenaries and other adventurers to try and find him. One such mercenary eventually managed to track Miahtoux down and convince him to return to the friends he had abandoned. (OOC note: This was another player who is not on this site, so I will not mention names.)

The Months in the Castrum

Under severe emotional distress, Miahtoux found himself lost in his own thoughts. In an act of desperation Miahtoux resolved that The Empire might know more about the strange power in the eye. Along with the young Hyur, Mael Archevauliere, he had met some weeks before. Miahtoux surrendered himself to the soldiers in Castrum Oriens. It was here he met Seline oen Derlinoire. A duskwight that had been raised under imperial occupation in Ala Mhigo. It was Seline that tended his wounds after the Praefectus of the Castrum had subjected him to a night of solid torture. The two soon struck up a friendship... and maybe more. It was the Legatus Vidal van Acilino that eventually put a stop to this treatment. To the surprise of his own soldiers, he bought Miahtoux into his cohort as a Tribunus. Encouraging him to nurture the uncontrollable side of his power that was beginning to manifest from his pain. Under his guidance, Miahtoux was transformed into a faceless, nameless weapon for The Empire. While his comapnion Mael was held deep within the Castrum. Eventually it was Mael that managed to reach Miahtoux and snap him out of his rage. Bringing his friend back to reality. Outraged at how Mael had been treated, Miah began to lash out at the one responsible, Vel oen Martial. Eventually killing the man while interrogating him for information about an impending transfer of Mael to the capital. The trail led him to Vel's uncle Gelis. A legatus that had made his position by connections rather than skill. Under Vidal's blessing, Miahtoux was outfitted with a weapon to exact his revenge. A rapier which he felt a peculiar connection with. With Gelis's assassination behind them, Miahtoux and Mael made their escape from the Castrum. With the unexpected kindness of Vidal keeping them safe from pursuit for a time. Exactly why Vidal had shown such kindness was still unknown. But Miah had learned one thing. The eye was growing more unstable, feeding on the Dark side that had been manifested by his training as a dark knight. An insanity that manifested as a completely seperate, and draconic perspective of the world.

Present

After his time in the empire, Miahtoux returned home to the village of Nophecon with Mael in tow. In an attempt to find his friend a safe place to stay before his own return to Ishgard. He is currently attempting to make amends with his brother but also find the cause and solution to a mysterious attack on the denizens of the town.

OOC Stuff

  • Limit Break: Miahtoux uses the Eye of Ruin to link with Erebus and perform a limit break.
  • In-game Erebus is represented by the Midgardsormr Minion.
  • In case people think the eye of ruin is "power gaming" or "meta gaming" I feel I should point out it has no uses other than to be a plot device for certain things. The only IC thing it does is the Limit Break, but that can't be used in an RP, its more for in RP dungeon runs.
  • When Stormblood Comes out Miahtoux's main class in RP will switch to Red mage, as it represents a way for him to combine the magic he can use to be able to create elemental spells again.
