Keepers of the Moon • Critically Endangered • Balmung

Clouded with snow

The cold winds blow,

And shrill on leafless bough

The robin with its burning breast

Alone sings now.

The rayless sun,

Day's journey done,

Sheds its last ebbing light

On fields in leagues of beauty spread

Unearthly white.

Thick draws the dark,

And spark by spark,

The frost-fires kindle, and soon

Over that sea of frozen foam

Floats the white moon.

~ Walter de la Mare

History
"They arrived without fanfare."

It is believed that a few hundred years ago a small group of miqo'te travelled from the lands beyond. Before the endless winter and when greenery could still be found within Coerthas. For years the clan survived as a rumor. Dragoons who claimed to have been saved by long tail figures. Travellers who spotted the movement of hyur-like shadows in the distance. Until nearly a hundred years ago, the clan had been known to Coerthas commoners as the Haunts of Menphina.

However that changed a century ago. Determined to find an answer to what the, "Haunts of Menphina," truly were, a small noble house set out into the shadows of night. After three weeks of searching and the death of four men, the lord and his men at arms had chosen to depart from the rugged lands of Coerthas. Yet, when the cliff beneath their feet faltered to hold their weight, many men -- the lord included -- fell from a drop that killed most. It had been in Menphina's light that the man spoke a prayer for his wife and child at home, believing he'd never see them again. When he saw movement in the shadows he had convinced himself it was a wolf, coming to finish the job.

To the lord's surprise, he had been found by a miqo'te hunting party. The leader, Anesh Jinkjahl, approached the injured man with hesitance. When she discovered him on the brink of death he had been brought to the small clan's encampment and tended to by the menders. It was then that the, "Haunts of Menphina," were discovered to be the Moonlight Dew clan. When asked what he could do in trade for such kindness he was informed that their love had come free of cost. In return for their benevolence, the lord returned to Ishgard with a vow of silence. For as long as he lived, the clan's location had been kept a secret.

Other sightings of the clan led some travellers to believe that the clan may of come from the Far East before they settled in Coerthas. Descriptions of how they faded from sight and were talented martially hinted towards skills Eorzea hadn't yet been introduced to.

Two years before the Calamity everything changed. Word had long since spread of the talented but secluded Keeper of the Moon clan. Those who indulged in the Blackmarket became interested in the rarity of their prowess. Hunters had been sent out to dismantle and capture the clan. The slaughter held not a sliver of mercy. Those who could not be claimed were butchered by the blades of those who sought them out. Those who were injured but not broken were tossed into cages and carried out from Coerthas, destined to be slaves.

Now the clan has been split apart, many dead, but those who are not strive to find their family once more. . .

Clan Traits
"With their furs and their silks."

Features

Hair

It had been until recent times that Moonlight Dew miqo'te had been fairly grey schemed. They often sported black or white hair. More often than not their hair had been silky in texture and thick. Males usually kept their hair short while females grew it out. Recently, miqo'te have been adopted into the clan that do not follow the traditional color scheme. This change of heart likely has to do with the fact that the clan nearly died out.

Fur

This breed of miqo'te are long furred. Their fur color naturally matches their hair color but can have the occasional pattern.

Ears

Due to the climates these cats have lived in, their ears are a little more rounded than their other Keeper brethren. Extra fluffy, fur tuffs out and around their ears to protect the inner chasm.

Eyes

Like most Keepers, the Moonlight Dew have slightly wider eyes. Their pupils are full instead of the slits their Seeker counterparts have. As the Moonlight Dew have recently begun adopting clanless miqo'te, eye colors may vary, but the original Moonlight Dew families host grey schemed eyes (from white to black).

Bodies

Height
Male
Female

Minimum
5'2.7"
4'10.9"

Average
5'3.2"
5'2.6"

Maximum
5'8.2"
5'6.8"

Moonlight Dew Keepers are often well toned and favor agility and flexibility.

Tails

Both genders host elongated tails that stay true to their fluffy nature. Their tails are used for balance and stealth tactics.

Skin

The original Moonlight Dew Keepers have difficulty growing body hair. Males are not usually able to grow aged and full beards. For that reason, they often keep themselves well groomed. Much like their eyes and fur color, their skin tone is usually moon-kissed (black) or porcelain (white). The exception to this is adopted miqo'te. The originals burn easily and do not tan afterwards.

Markings

Like many miqo'te, the Moonlight Dew holds several traditional markings. All retinue members -- including the Matriarch -- wear a dew drop on their forehead. Females of the tribe have stripes on the sides of their face while males have leopard-like spots. The Matriatch has both spots and stripes as a way to display unity. The Matriarch of the clan will also tattoo the back of her neck and the base of her tail with Menphina's symbol.

Garb

Mundane Attire

All clan members are permitted to wear what they please. The only exceptions to this are children and luminaries. Children must be dressed modestly if they are at walking age. Luminaries must wear their ceremonial garb and are expected to wash it daily.

Combat Attire

Brothers and Sisters of Silver Steel are expected to wear armor pending on their specialization. A warrior is to be covered completely and is expected to take heavy blows. A shadow is expected to wear armor they are silent and mobile in. Huntresses and their male counterparts are expected to wear attire functional for the climate and prey they are hunting. As the clan is martially skilled, they often train in armor crafting or leatherworking.

Ceremonial Attire

Ceremonial garb varies on the different ritual being preformed. However a few traits are constant in their garb. The Silver Steel will always wear armor that is a metallic silver in coloration. Clan members will wear outfits of ivory and milky hues. Retinue members will always wear black. The Matriarch wears a mix of silver, black, and white to display unity. Moonstones are often used in jewellery for these ceremonies.
