GENERAL APPEARANCE

Common Appearance: A discerning Dunesfolk with a pale complexion, and neatly slicked back grey hair. Despite his youthful appearance, Otto likes to consider himself a mage of the highest order, and generally favours conducting himself as such. In everyday life, he has a confident demeanour, and an unnerving sense calm stillness about him, his clever gold coloured eyes rarely failing to miss a trick. He is usually seen dressed in long, sweeping robes, which tend to conceal his slight and weaker frame, though the nimble grace and agility inherent of his kind more than makes up for this.

Scars & Markings: A pale slit down the centre of his chest.

Voice: A high, silky, eloquent tone of voice. At times brash and ringing, at others gentle and circumspect.

Clothing: Like many Thaumaturges he has a preference for robes in varying shades of black or darker colours, and is never without the same silver ring on his left index finger.

MISCELLANEOUS

• Otto joined the Order of Nald'thal at a young age with a desire to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather.
• Takes his practice seriously, regarding the cycle of death and rebirth with a solemn respect.
• He has been a member of the Outriders for over a cycle, and considers them to be more of a family than his blood-relatives.
• Likes to collect objects of dark, mysterious repute. The shelves in his room are cluttered with strange skulls, creatures preserved in jars of liquid, and other objects of an esoteric nature.

PERSONALITY

A percipient, intellectual Lalafell, Otto is known by his friends for his dark, sarcastic humour and his oftentimes haughty nature; although recent revelations have made him dispense with some of this internalized hubris, bringing out a more sensitive side previously closed off by himself. He is fiercely loyal and reverent towards those he cares about - most notably his friends and comrades in the Outriders - and has strong convictions about doing the right thing, or at least trying to do so. Despite his natural desire to do good and "play the hero" (as one put it), there is an unbridled darkness within that at times cannot be contained. His sentimental heart makes way for not only intense feelings of love, but also of extreme hatred too, which can cloud his judgment and skew his morality.

Towards strangers he is somewhat guarded, but not unfriendly. He does not suffer fools gladly, but as the realm is seemingly full of such people he has become quite adept at handling them, and can be quite charming and silver-tongued when he needs something from them.

COMBAT

Otto began practicing in the Order during the days of Mumuepo's leadership, and is thus more well acquainted with some of the practices that are less focused on these days under Cocobuki (Shadow-Spells, Blood Magicks, Advanced Curse Work). He prefers to strike quickly, and efficiently, striking his enemies down by unleashing a hell of fire, ice and thunder before they have a chance to reach him, but when pushed his abilities span far beyond this standard thaumaturgy.

Now with a constant determination to improve himself, Otto is continually striving to learn and create new spells to add to his array.

HISTORY

The Past Otto was born and raised in Ul'dah; he is the son and middle-child of a semi-affluent merchant trader. The black sheep of his family, he decided from a young age that he would set himself apart from his father's way of life, choosing instead to follow the path of his maternal-grandfather in the study of Thaumaturgy. Initially funded by his grandfather, he studied for nearly ten cycles in the Order of Nald'thal; during this time the Calamity occurred, and like many practiced Thaumaturges in the Order assisted in its protection during the siege on its walls. Soon after this he left the Order to pursue his own path, and what happened during his three cycles is not something he cares to share with strangers.

The Present After whatever happened during those three cycles, Otto returned to try and piece his life together. He sought answers he continued on as an adventurer for some time, before being recruited into the Outriders - a group of heroes for hire. After one cycle he remains with them, his attachment to its members growing to the point where he now considers them to be his true family.

PC Naomi Kett ღ ∞- Wife/Best Friend/Moral Compass Character's Thoughts: "The person most precious to me..." The leader of the Outriders, Naomi is Otto's best and longest surviving friend, and over time he has developed a great fondness for the Seeker. He is devoutly loyal to her, admiring her courage and strength of conviction to always do the right thing, even if her idealism is sometimes at odds with his cynical nature. It took over a cycle for Otto to realise that his feelings for her had developed into something more than just platonic affection. His plans to keep these emotions buried did not last long either, but much to his own amazement (and thanks to the interference of her brother Grey) it turned out the feeling between them was mutual, and soon after they entered into a relationship. One year later, they are a happily married couple. Grey Hound ♦ - Alcoholic Older Brother-in-Spirit Character's Thoughts: "There's a good person somewhere beneath that vast ocean of whiskey." Naomi's brother, Otto has known Grey for as long as her, although he vanished for some time and has only recently returned. He and Otto have similarities on certain levels, sharing cynical outlooks on life and bearing a lack of patience for fools. Grey is also one of the few (who aren't Naomi) to break the "do not pick me up" rule without being injured, seemingly making him one of the exceptions. Despite Grey's generally abrasive manner to others, Otto perceives and wants to believe in a goodness beneath the healer's rude exterior and dubious moral alignment. (Though perhaps this is also due to Otto's own oftentimes dubious alignment). T'rahven Tia ♦ - Younger Brother-in-Spirit Character's Thoughts: "Monk with a heart of gold." Both Otto and T'rahven (or 'T') have shared an alarmingly similar experience of betrayal in their separate lives, and so Otto naturally has a feeling of mutual understanding and respect for the monk. There are few people whom Otto would feel comfortable with placing his life in their hands, but in T'rahven's case his strength as a fighter, and his determination to do right by his friends means that there are few others the Lalafell would choose over him. They also both work well on the field with each other, and in their investigations Otto often acts as interrogator whilst T stands in the background looking tough. Shadow Shouvome ♦ - Mystery Man Character's Thoughts: "Enigmatic, that one..." Shadow is a quiet and slightly grumpy Keeper whom Otto enjoys teasing from time to time, though recently their relationship has become slightly more amicable and the joking now seems to go both ways. Otto started a running joke in the Outriders about Shadow's mysterious mask of seduction, due to a slightly disastrous mission in Kugane in the past.

N P C Novovachi Movovachi ♥ ✖ - Father Character's Thoughts: "Insufferable Dolt." Otto's relationship with his father is strained to say the least. Novovachi is a barely-affluential merchant-trader from Ul'dah with delusions and ambitions beyond his intellectual capacity. He tried to instill his sons with a selfish gil-driven mentality from childhood, and ever since Otto has done everything in his power to be to be his complete opposite. Ishiru Shiru ♥ ● - Mother Character's Thoughts: "Control Freak." Otto takes after his mother side of the family. Ishiru is an outwardly kind woman, but with a hidden streak of what Otto would call familial megalomania. Set on driving her children in what she sees as an appropriate direction for respectful Lalafells of Ul'dah. Her relationship is better with Otto than her husband's, and thankfully she gave up on driving her second son's life early enough for him to walk his own path. Cocovachi Locovachi ♥ ✖ - Older Brother Character's Thoughts: "Idiot." A younger, slightly more charming version of Novovachi, and as such he and Otto do not get along incredibly well. With four cycles in age between them, there was never much brotherly affection between the two, and Otto always had the feeling that Cocovachi felt the need to compete for his parent's affection over Otto. Mimiru Miru ♥ ✔ - Younger Sister Character's Thoughts: "She turned out all right, actually." Otto left to join the Order of Nald'thal when he was young, and so does not have much experience growing up around his sister. She is bright-eyed, sharp-tongued Lalafell, six cycles younger than him. In Otto's eyes she is the most agreeable member of the family, and he is greatly thankful that her birth diverted both his parent's attention from himself. Until recently Otto revered his grandfather and modeled himself upon him, for he was the man who inspired him so, setting him on the path of Thaumaturgy.
