Portia was found as an infant, bundled up and hidden away under a tree in Central Shroud. The reason for this is still unknown. The Hyur couple who found her, Lord Brenet and Lady Illian of the house Bartel, adopted her, having no children of their own. Portia was raised as a Lady under their care. She grew up feeling a little out of place, surrounded by Elezen and Hyur, as well as a few Miqo'te that looked a bit different from her and did not talk to her, though she had no idea why.

It was clear that as she had come of age and the years passed by, that her status, being a Lady by title only and not of blood, and a Miqo'te on top of that, her chances of being courted by anyone of title were slim. Her father desperately wanted his daughter taken care of, for she would not be able to inheiret the manor, as it would go to her next of kin that was male. One day, however, a man by the name of Lord Deavin came to her father and requested her hand. It had been unexpected, and the man came from a very wealthy family.&nbsp;<br/><br/>Within a week, her things were being shipped off to her new home, and Portia arrived at the manor, awaiting her wedding day. The days that led up to the occasion were not what she had expected, however. Lord Deavin wasn't the man he seemed behind closed doors. He was cruel. Portia would be taken into the dungeons and the Lord would let his guards do whatever they liked with her except deflower her, while he watched. One such night, a guard had been playing with a dagger, when he accidently dropped it. The blade fell upon her face, cutting a line over her right eye. The man was immediately put to death, and Portia was taken up to her room to be cured of any blemish or scar. The nursemaid did what she could, but the line would still become a scar, the magic turning her right eye a slightly lighter shade of purple.<br/><br/>While being examined, it was discovered by the nursemaid a terrible thing: Portia's body was infertile, and unable to bare children. If the Lord found this out, he might have killed her, or worse, made one of his many mistresses for the rest of her life. She would prove useless as a wife, and so, with the help of the nursemaid who might face a punishment of death, Portia escaped into the night.

She has spent her time wandering all over Eorzia, lending her time to orphanages and poor homes in return for meals and a place to sleep. She has also studied white magic, and has become proficient in the healing arts, to which she takes great pride in.

Although a Seeker of the Sun, Portia's skin is very pale. Her hair is a common shade of brown streaked with white, which she ties up into a long pony-tail. The fur of her ears is brown, blending into her hair, and the fur of her tail the same except for the tip being white as if dipped in cream. Her face is round and soft-looking, with purple eyes. Her left eye is a dark purple, but the right looking a few shades lighter. Under her left eye is a small white marking. Over the lighter eye, a scar only a few years old crosses down from above her eyebrow to just a little down her cheek. She is average height, though her body is thin and delicate-looking, and picking her up one would realize she weighs only a little more than a child. The rest of her body, if ever seen, is blemish-free and smooth, the skin of someone who had been well taken-care of most of her life.

The woman is rather shy around people she doesn't know, and in large gatherings she tends to try to blend into the shadows. When trying to be brefriended, however, she's very trusting, almost too much. She likes people, but her insecurities keep her from wanting to draw attention to herself. Portia is quiet and refined, for the most part very aware of when it is right for her to talk, and when it is not.

When around children, however, she becomes a completely different person. She laughs a lot and cannot keep herself from smiling. If normally she is closed in, when around children she becomes herself. She is caring, loving, understanding, very much like a mother. If she cares about someone very much, she will do things like scold them for getting hurt, cook them a lot of food, and sing around them.

Portia doesn't like to get involved in combat. However, when there are times when she is needed (and she will always lend her help to those in need), she makes a very quick and decisive healer. As if having eyes in the back of her head, she is aware of nearly everything on the battlefield happening at one time. Her skill with white magic is very proficient, something she takes pride in. Her greatest fear is letting anyone get hurt because she wasn't able to protect them or heal them. Although in her mind she is very systematic in battle, she will, on the outside, talk to herself a lot as if in panic. "Don't die! "I've got you!" "You're okay!" Most of the time she doesn't even realize she is saying these things, and when being told she seemed to be panicing a lot, she is completely lost as to what they are talking about, having been confident the entire time.
