Appearance
This black-scale Au Ra has olive skin, mottled in interesting patterns around the areas that fade into the glossy black scales that cover much of his vital areas. He doesn't have any scars that the casual eye can see, and his tall frame strains to heights just below seven fulms. The Qalli is broad of shoulder, hinting at the great strength hidden in his upper body. Unknown to most, his form is riddled with various piercings and colorful art inked into his flesh.
Personality
Qarajin ( Kara-JEEN ) has been called a few things. Quiet. Polite. Stoic. A menace. He does tend to think carefully before he speaks; the fact that 'speaking' instead of 'singing' being difficult for him aside, the Au Ra man is very careful not to offend at all times. Even though the often-outgoing ways of Eorzean culture constantly leaves him feeling mentally overwhelmed, he combats it with a deep-set sense of honor and chivalry that can easily be manipulated into anger.. even with his extreme self-control.
In conversation, any southern fool would be able to notice the intensely Othardian overtones of his low tenor. When he chooses to speak more than three words, there is without fail a cadence and rhythm to his statements; even though he has managed to subvert the deep-ingrained Qalli habit of singing instead of speaking, there is still a sense of music in every sentence. Qara is someone who isn't too easily rubbed the wrong way, but if he dislikes the person who is speaking to him you can bet they'll know it.
In situations of intimacy ( whether it be a simple private conversation or a more candid meeting of a close friend ) a person might even tempt a smile from the stone-faced black-scale. If Qarajin is really comfortable, he might even let his singing voice free, though once someone gets him started it's hard to get him to bottle that up again.
The black-scale is very witty ( though he usually keeps it to himself ), jealous, and maybe a bit too humble for his own good. Qarajin is a man who has a deep-set belief in self-respect and honor, however: he is not a selfish creature, but neither is he a man who lacks the strength to stand up for his code should he be pushed to test it. Everything he does he will attempt to do with the methodical attention of someone who is obsessed with perfection.
What He's Doing Today
Qarajin has lent his services to an adventuring band that is notorious for getting themselves into trouble, though he usually keeps to himself until healing services are inevitably needed. Though he is aware and a part of the magical division of the band, much of his time is free time. The shaman has been slowly and laboriously teaching himself to read and write in Eorzean, though he doesn't keep up with it enough to be even remotely proficient. The au ra has also been indulging his curiosities where whimsy takes him, though he can usually be found absorbing the fine examples of Eorzean culture in Ul'dah. It is no wonder he considers most people to be thirsty, over-sexualized primitives.

As a shaman, Qarajin's responsibilities were not primarily combat-oriented; his skills ran more along the lines of divination, reading the weather, and providing advice and guidance based on the natural world around him. The large blackscale is hardly defenseless, however his tactics change widely depending on the elemental balance of his surroundings. Often he is seen without martial weapon, though in his hands a simple wooden stave becomes a deadly device.
The Au Ra will shift his elemental aspect based on his location. Pushed into an offensive need, the shaman has no less than the world itself at his call. He has been known to hew the raw stone of the ground into weapon and wall; to pull thunder and lightning from the air to heave and stun. Some have seen him weave the very air itself into invisible forces that cut and carry; still others claim he can command that raw powers of fire and water to do bidding both martial and mundane. Still, each elemental aspect has its specific strengths and weaknesses, and a good look at the stance the shaman might be holding before a fight breaks out can give clues as to what he's intending to do.
Qarajin does not have any tactics that are predictable; every situation is different, though there are distinct constants with each of his elemental stances. If the shaman is crushing his enemies in deadly stone prisons, it is very likely that the blackscale is nearly immobile and grounded in place. Should the man be bending raw cuts of lightning, he will more often than not be found at a great distance, heaving arrows of thunder at targets most unfortunate. Is he spinning out great scythes of aspected air? Keep your eyes high: the shaman is most likely highly mobile, riding the air itself above a fight. None yet have borne witness to the shaman conjuring water or fire: such tactics are lost to knowing of him yet.
Should Qarajin be, at any time, lacking in his ability to heave elemental martial arts, the man will fall back onto his staff: he is most comfortable with one his size, which would leave something about 7 fulms long as his best weight. Such a huge weapon, swung with practiced force, has enough blunt impact to shatter bone.
