Summary

A soft-spoken, easygoing Keeper of the Moon who follows the flow to wherever it goes. Rather than being lucky or hard-working, his flexibility and curiosity lead him everywhere. Often into trouble, out of it less so. He currently is a research assistant and sometime test subject for the Sons of Saint Coinach, having immigrated originally from Sharlayan.

Biography

Early life and training

The second son of three children, Rhael'to inherited very little of his mother's excessive natural aptitudes. Born to a small Keeper family in Sharlayan, he was pushed down the path of the study and practice of magic as he was big enough to hold a book upright. While briefly studying Arcanima, his first invocation nearly fried his poor Carbuncle, as a small ball of lightning flew out of his pet and lit his training grimoire on fire. Staves feeling more natural in his hands, he was trained to summon and fling stones through Conjury, but instead the bricks from a nearby building scorched and shattered themselves, rightly angering the owner of that poor bakery. Clearly, Thaumaturgy was the only path open to him for honest work, as he took to electricity quite naturally. Regrettably, mastering fire and ice took a few years longer than his fellow pupils.

Adventuring

Severely struck with wanderlust and the inability to follow the Forum's even simplest of rules, he set out for Eorzea. His mother fashioned an aether-enriched Carbuncle to follow him uselessly everywhere, perhaps so he'd remember his family from time to time. Carrying with him a simple set of clothes, an extra pair of subligar, a striking staff, and two loaves of stolen bread, it wasn't long before his lack of planning became a problem. He would often fail at foraging, finding only poisonous mushrooms, inedible berries, or very flavorless animals. As he worked his way southeast along the coast, he would happily do anything necessary to help other travelers (especially to replenish his nonexistent food supply). Some were generous, some less kind with their requests. Grateful to continue on and never brooding over negative experiences, he continued in this way, exploring much of western Coerthas and Mor Dhona.

The Calamity

The night of the Calamity, a fairly confused Rhael'to was wandering along the banks of the Cinderfoot River, trying to catch dinner without getting wet. After shocking himself trying to fry the fish while standing in the water, he laid down to rest for the night, his pet Carbuncle mindlessly jumping and frolicking around him. The great red glow of Dalamund was particularly strong, but it didn't seem so bad ... until the explosions. He started running - anywhere. With aether flooding everything in his vision, he doesn't recall how or when his Carbuncle grew, but it absorbed enough to accommodate his body as they raced away throughout the night. After wandering in to Ul'dah a few days later, he ended up living there temporarily, taking odd jobs to help rebuild.

Currently

After several years and slightly improved stability, he ended up working for the Sons of Saint Coinach after a freelance job led him to be used as a canary in some Allagan ruins. He survived a minor gauntlet of elemental traps, earning a minor bonus in his pay and secured ongoing work in their explorations.

Personality

Quick of wit but slow of tongue, Rhael'to is not often the center of attention in the pub. He is the first to agree to just about anything; a game of chance, hunting a wily morbol, an ale-fueled orgy on the altar within Saint Reymanaud's Cathedral, or teaming up with Sky Pirates to pillage the lost ruins of the Mhachi. He lives moment to moment, regretting little that has passed and thinking rarely of the future. He's neither naïve nor gullible, merely able to live without fear of consequences.

Rhael'to is a Miqo'te much like his mother, with smooth bluish skin and dark purple hair turning to pink, likely due to his frequent voltage mishaps. He prefers to keep his hair somewhat long, but braided; a youthful incident left his head a frizzled, oversized purple pom. He is slender and possesses just enough stamina to get through the day.

For maximum comfort and combat readiness, he rejects the flowing robes of traditional Thaumaturgy and tends to wear more casual spellslinging attire. His singular weapon of choice is the greatstaff, particularly models that excel in conduction.

OOC Information

Rhael'to is often logged in, unavailable during the standard work week and is only available for RP sessions when flagged. He's amenable to most styles of RP, including those on the mature spectrum, provided his partner is 18+. It's preferred to approach him in-person, rather than whispering when possible. He can usually be found in quieter spots, such as perched on the old ale casks behind The Quicksand (12.3, 9.3), or in his apartment in Shirogane (Ward 8) if it happens to be unlocked.
