Rheya Tayuun is an adventurer for hire, a freelance thaumaturge and arcanist, as well as an accomplished craftswoman.
Nature: First and Foremost, Rheya is a survivor. Deep down, she's capable of doing whatever it takes to keep going. That indomitable will has seen her through all manner of hard times, and has caused her to spit in the eye of Death itself.
Demeanor: Rheya usually has two modes: Outgoing and friendly on her good days, surly and silent on her bad. Getting her to display anything else will require earning at least a modicum of trust from her.
Trope: Rheya is an almost militant atheist, only believing in and swearing by Hydaelyn the Mothercrystal.
Scars & Markings:
- Rheya's back is heavily scarred from shoulders to hip bones. There's clearly been a lot of work healing the damage so that the light marks don't do much to impede her movement or flexibility. However, it's clear that at one time someone went at her with something wide and studded. To the point where she would have lost about all of the skin as well as a good chunk of the muscles!
Voice: Rheya's got the faint musical twang of Limsa Lominsa in her speech, although the worst of the fisherwoman's drawl was trained out of her by the Arcanist's Guild.
Clothing: Rheya is nearly always neat and clean, almost to the point of obsession. Casual wear is a dark blue tunic and pants, while a red yukata is a favorite as well. However, the jewelry she commonly wears are all potent focuses for thaumaturgy unless she's wearing full plate.

Common Rumors "That one used to repair armor for the Gladiator's Guild in Ul'dah! Shame she quit, since she did good work at reasonable prices." ~A Gladiator's Guild Clerk. "Rheya? Oh, that girl's a dear. Whenever my useless lout of a husband burns things when trying to cook then she's always able to help repair the pans cheap." ~Ul'dahn matron. |
Rare Rumors "Look, son. I know you're new to this, but let me give you a word of advice before getting yourself into some troubles. Lieutenant Tayuun is one of our Maelstrom liaisons. Attempting to arrest her as a suspected "black mage" would cause a diplomatic stink that wouldn't do anything good for your career. And neither would the body count that attempting to arrest her would bring, because I'll guarantee you she won't come quietly. Just accept her help dealing with the occasional slaver and drug smuggler, and she'll write reports that makes all of us smell like roses." ~Brass Blades Sergeant |
As the Red Moon of Dalamud fell, a combination of it's strange effects and large chunks of it falling into the sea raised a tidal wave that flattened Rheya's village and carved a new cliff out of the land nearby. Rheya only survived because her house was one of the furthest inland, and she was on the roof of her house repairing a batch of fishing floats. That gave her just enough flotation to be carried along the surface, and blind luck kept her from being smashed to bits as the wave spent it's fury far inland. Wounded and hurting, she spent an indeterminate few days searching for help after running into a hungry coeurl. She survived, but it gave her the scar over her left eye.
She eventually found help, but not in the form that she wanted. Instead of the kindness of strangers, she was discovered by a rogue Arcanist by the name of Chase and his small gang of thugs. They healed her just enough, but claimed that since they saved her life that life was now theirs. After which they proceeded to take everything that they wanted from her, including her freedom and her virginity. For the next three and a half years, she was forced to work for them as a whore, travelling back and forth between Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah. Things steadily got grimmer for Rheya, but turned around when Chase tried to engage in banditry that he didn't have the numbers to make work. Three arrows in the guts later, the rogue arcanist found himself dying hard and painful along with his gang of thugs. Rheya was the only survivor, mostly because she didn't try to join in the ambush and was clearly as much of a victim as the merchant that they were trying to rob was.
She made her way back to Limsa Lominsa with Chase's silver grimoire, intending to sell it back to the Arcanist's Guild and find something new. However, a guard decided that she was a thief and tried to take it from her. Which led to a very surprising moment for everyone as Rheya managed to actually channel a Ruin spell with what she'd picked up from Chase. This might have ended badly, except an Assessor was in the crowd watching and figured Rheya for the Arcanima natural that she was. He intervened, and traded the silver grimoire for bed and board and training.
