Rievienne was born into a house of scientists and scholars, all excelling marvelously in their respective fields. From the beginning only the best was expect from her and she always tried to give it; being born shorter than most already put her at a severe disadvantage as far as her parents were concerned. Though she poured her all into her studies Rievienne couldn't help but love and be distracted by the wonders of magic, what she could create and destroy all in the wave of her hand. Eventually her parents grew tired of her lackadaisy attitude towards real scientific studies and they gave up on her, preferring to treat her like the disappointment she was. Rievienne couldn't handle being so worthless in the eyes of the ones that brought her life, and she immediately set out to acheive all she could in her favorite scientific field; magitek and machina called to her like no other. She conducted experiments and tinkered in secret, hoping she could come up with something that would truly make her the envy of the family; she had heard about the magitek infused soldiers, and she couldn't resist. Instead, suddenly one day she was cast out, her father having come home bruised and bloody and roaring about his insolent Garlean-minded daughter. Her entire family turned on her then, and she fled.
