Sarto'rien Faltomyri
[edit]
Archmage Sarto’rien Faltomyri, born 1559 in the Sixth Astral Era, is a Hyur Thaumaturge of Ishgardian descent. Born to a minor noble house, his early days were spent in the frozen city-state; his father the heir of a minor noble house, and his mother a practitioner and researcher of magic. An accusation of heresy, caused by political machinations cost the father his life; the mother fleeing to carry her son to the safety of Horizon in Thanalan, only to lose her own life to sickness. Sarto’rien was taken in by a former-contact of the woman’s; yet the man was a thief and criminal, and raised Sarto’rien into that life. His life in Horizon ended when he was 12, when his gift for magic caused a rift between him and his adoptive mentor; the boy being kicked out, and forced to live on the streets of Ul’dah. Criminal gangs devoured the rest of his childhood, until he was 16; an event causing his re-awakening. Momodi, the owner of the Quicksand, introduced the young Hyur to the Thaumaturges guild, which is where his life found new meaning. Gifted with an absurd skill and passion for magic, Sarto’rien mastered the art in under a year, going on to inherit one of the rare Soulstones of Black Magic. After completing his training with the guild, he enrolled in the Adventurers guild, deciding to give back all he could, while searching for anything and everything he could learn.
►Please take into account that his ‘current status’ isn’t fully fleshed out, yet. It is valid as of the end of Heavensward, but most of the backstory is yet to be written or RP’d out; it is merely the Sarto of the present day.◄
Having aided the Scions in their efforts to rebuild and regain their purpose of helping Eorzea, Sarto begins travelling anew, going on to master and learn all that he can about magic and Aether. Drawn to the plight of Ala Mihgo by the summoning of the ‘Primal’ Shuyin, he sets his sights on the upcoming fight for the country; the promise of thus far unlearned Red Magic promises an enlightening adventure while finally taking the fight to the Empire proper.
Sarto’rien is a Hyur male standing at 5.7 Fulms in height; not what could be described as short, but a little below the average for his race. His body is rather slim, weighing in at 66.5 Tonze; his form is lithe but toned. His shoulders aren’t as broad as some Midlanders, offering him a slightly more effeminate form. His face is slightly rounded and youthful, able to be described as cute rather easily. His skin is smooth and hairless upon his face, his most distinguishing feature being the different coloured eyes. The left is a normal, bright blue; but the right is an almost glowing red; the cause being an aethric conversion in his youth. His hair is a deep crimson, arranged as messy spikes that sweep across to the right side of his face. His mouth is either seen in the shape of a smile or a straight-line; his face is often contemplative when not laughing or smiling.
His posture is good, having lead a rather active youth. He stands tall and proud most of the time, even if those around him are far taller. This body language is often a mask to hide his insecure, worrying nature. His eyes always roam and scan those around him. He finds it hard to mask his body language, and is frequently obvious if he feels disdain or attraction to someone or something. Aspects That Stand Out:
When it comes to personality, Sarto’rien is someone of many faces. In a social setting, he is chatty and easy-going, flirty and sincere. When the subject of magic comes up, he lights up like a fanboy; he is enthusiastic, clever and curious to a fault; often doing all he can to learn all he can. His naivety of belief can often become annoying to those more world-wise than he; but it can also be endearing to a point. His heart firmly believes in the ideas of a unified world, of cooperation and peace being the answer; but his mind knows that people must fight to create such a world. When using magic, however, Sarto’rien almost seems to become possessed of a singular purpose. He becomes stoic, serious and self-confident, thanks to the nature of Thaumaturge. It is dangerous and lethal, and in his eyes, shouldn’t be used jovially. If one doesn’t take their magic seriously, it will harm either the practitioner, or those around them.
