Once the most vicious viper in the nest, Serrastian lived by the coldblooded code of kill or be killed until an act of unfathomable kindness spared him his life.  After spending almost a year recovering from his injuries he decided to start over, retraining his martial skills from the ground up, and learning to practice compassion and kindness on his own.

Serrastian is a rangy Elezen of a weaselly, fluid build, with a feline tendency to prowl rather than walk even when clad in a full suit of armour. Various scars are visible on his hands and there's a long, thin slash from his eye down to his jaw, signs that he's seen more than the average share of close fighting and not always come out on top. All in all his features are generally pleasing if brought to life with a smile, something that usually needs to be tricked out of him before the elezen is conscious of it happening.

Personality

  • Alignment: Reformed Evil, now trying to be Good

The combined effects of clawing for survival and forced reliance on the kindness of others since he washed up in Fallgourd have done much to soften and tame the Duskwight into something fit to have around the house. In spite of his better intentions and desire to do good, he still has a viper's acid tongue and a sharp bite when forced to tolerate what he thinks is nonsense for a little too long, but at least the weapons stay sheathed. Being comfortable in his own skin and usually at ease can come across as more of the typical elezen pride.

Likes

  • Sleeping outdoors
  • Has a fondness for Ishgardian tea
  • Smoking
  • Hunting, regardless if it's in pursuit of game, bounties, women...
  • Braised pipiri, or any other fish

Dislikes

  • Tight, airless spaces, mainly caves (he's aware of the irony)
  • Being tied, shackled, or otherwise bound
  • Travel by aetheryte
  • Noise
  • Being approached on his blind side

Strengths

  • Keeps a cool head
  • Loyal and demonstrative when his trust is won

Weaknesses

  • Claustrophobia
  • Still somewhat feral when his temper is ruffled
  • Needs the odd reminder that the most expedient option isn't always the most ethical.

Religion

Not irreligious, but not exactly demonstrative of faith beyond using the names of the Twelve to curse. Can sometimes be heard appealing to Oschon under his breath for strength when dealing with idiots.

Rumours

The following rumours can be heard about Serrastian, predominantly in Gridania. (If your character has an opinion about her, feel free to add it here.)

Common rumours

  • "Do you believe that he lost all his memories? Anybody with an onze of sense can see the grey is faking it."
  • "I heard it was the Green Wrath that took his right eye. He must've deserved it."
  • "Save your breath. He won't say what he did for a living before washing up in the river because doing so would see him hanged."

Uncommon rumours

  • "I've a friend in the Wailers who suspected him to be a brigand, but they had to let him go for lack of evidence."
  • "Listen closely and you'll hear his accent slip. It's not from these parts."
  • "The widow who found him went against the Hearer and saved his hide... folks say it's because he looks a bit like her dead husband."

Rare rumours

  • "I remember a night just as foul as this one nigh fifteen years ago. Two silver twins turned up in the village beggin' for shelter, just kids they were, but folks turned suspicious and drove 'em away. The laws can be right hard on outsiders. I wonder what happened to 'em?"
