Character

General

Tyo'li Tayuun is one of those people who viciously swings between being a professional social butterfly one day and a sullenly withdrawn loner the next. Anyone who has bothered to look up while walking the paths of the Black Shroud may yet find evidence of his passing, for the man calls the stripped boughs of the Shroud his home. Tied supplies and small outposts in crook'd treelegs more often than not hold his mark, though usually far out of reach of casual passerby.

His vigilante work is often unnoticed and unthanked, the quivermen who find his rainbow-fletched arrows in encroaching marks only dubbing him as such. He's no friend to them in any official capacity, as his bow finds beasts and beastmen with the same unbiased fury as it does Gridanian loyalists and poachers. Tyo'li's motivations are unclear, though his offenses against the commonfolk of Gridania only seem to occur when they delve too deep into the Sylphlands.

Appearance

The Keeper has skin the color of night and shadow, marked and pocked with a few scarred tales of his life among trees and violence. The worst imperfection of all that black skin being along his spine, where a terrible chain of thick burnlike scars trail from nape to tailbone. The man seems in fine form otherwise, his lean body built for speed over strength. His hair is often dyed in colors to match his hunting environs, dark black blue and violet strands just as often left flowing free around his shoulders as they are braided up and tied back in practical pleats.

Personality

Present in more civilized company, his nature is far more obvious. He seems always balanced, quiet and keenly aware of too much going on around him at any given time. His tail is the most expressive part of him, though it hangs often in stillness and readiness should the need arise to bolt for cover. Nonetheless Tyo'li has a good heart, his reasoning for much anything he does being simply this: 'Aid when you can, defend when you must.' Unfortunately, the man has an ill habit of focusing too much on the world around him, and not on himself.

In conversation he tends towards blunt honesty, a childlike innocent slamming rude questions home without thought. He often plays such a thing to the letter, and is known to surprise people who believe him much younger and carefree than he truely is. Tyo'li has the quiet wisdom of one who sees far more than he mentions, and should an intimate situation arise he is capable of offering flawless guidance on the issues of those around him as if they were little more than arrows to be sent from his bow.

History/Timeline

Tyo'li would be hard pressed to tell you anything between the Calamity five years past and today; surely he must have been somewhere, doing something, but some strange force has either blocked or disrupted his mind to such things. In truth, a botched attempt to 'recover' him and a few other tempered commoners from the Sylphlands by a few good-intending adventurers is the cause of this. His time as a tempered servant of Ramuh has left distinct marks upon his aether, however, and those skilled in the sight or study of such things may be able to realize this without any telling from the man himself.

For his young, adolescent, and second decade of life, he had kin and kine. His clan was less of a family and more of a bandit camp, stationed in the outskirts of the East Shroud. There were at least six sons to the clan, and so Tyo was borne and bred within a very competitive group; he had a distinct lack of the trait, however, and was happy to watch the posturing of his cousins instead of partaking in it himself. His parents raised his kit sisters and him in the same mien, as poachers and unwelcome presences under the trees. Tyo did always wonder why the often-venerated elementals never smote them down for their hunting; however, his ability to 'feel' when the clan was over-stepping on their 'allowed interference' often saved his kin from just that.

Absolutely average-- neither the pride or the shame of his blood- Tyo'li eventually set out on his own, following his much stronger sisters and cousin northwards in pursuit of new fortunes. He was content to follow and help as he could, though he had very little practical skills.

Npah, the leader of their little offshoot tribe, had a fascination with the Allagan rumors of history, and had led her 'family' on a march to uncover the Tomb of Xande... The Calamity struck all of them hard, for they were cowering in a series of caves in Brittlebark when Dalamund fell.

Tyo would be able to say neither how he survived, or how he 'awoke' back in the Shroud almost five years later-- (the Sylphlands' borders, to be exact)-- and knows only the subject makes him feel extremely 'weird'. Alone, lost, and still used to others fending for him, the man first rushed to old places of refuge. He only found a world he did not recognize.

The man managed well enough on his own to at least garner interest from a few other adventuring types. It was no twist of fate that both were female miqo'te, and that he was well into his prime breeding age. Eager at the prospect of starting a new life, Tyo'li played the proud protector of his new 'wives' on a long trek of their leading.

It was across the sea that he realized his error, when he came upon them deep in the heart of La Noscea in a home they three had made for themselves after being sent away for the replenishing of supplies; the lasses were less interested in starting a new clan with him than they were with each other.

It was that first night, when the miqo'te man was at his lowest and most desperate, that the dreams finally began. Dreams of a great weapon that he would wield, an instrument that would both bind him, and break him..

What He's Doing Today

Having lost his ability to channel for reasons unknown, the 'Deafened' miqo'te man spends most of his time prowling the deep paths of the Black Shroud for hapless would-be heroes gone astray, and corrupted monsters on the rampage. With his bow picked up once more, the Keeper is again in his element, and often finds himself during the long hours of his quiet and self-imposed vigil pondering why he ever set it down in the first place. Tyo is never known for asking for recompense or aid in his 'work' from adventurers or Gridania's quiver-men; assuredly the miqo'te does as he does for altruistic purposes, though it would seem a solitary and self-burdened task.

Just as often as he offers subtle and oft-unseen protection for those weak ones that may wander into the Deep Paths, however, he is as quick to turn those rainbow-fletched arrows on any who would poach too much or cut too deep; Tyo serves as a willing protector of Sylphome's borders, apparently uniquely impervious to the tempering powers and poisoning mists of the sylphic creatures there. Already there are those who have felt the sting of his ebony arrowheads in quests to take what must not be taken, and with his vigil resumed one can safely assume there will be many more.
