Basic Info

History

Childhood

Born the younger of a set of male twins, Xha'li has only one other sibling-an older brother who has about three years on them. They might of had more siblings, but their father vanished before their third year, and their mother had already started having children late after spending ten years as an adventurer herself. When Xha'li was 11, during his twelfth winter, he along with the other village children who had reached the same milestone were given a basic primer and then tested with both the bow and the lance. Xha'li's performance with the bow was the worst in village memory, nearly managing to hit his tester who was off to his side. On the lance he fair significantly better, taking the top spot out of the 4 children from that year. The following year was the Calamity, and although the village escaped any major harm as a result of Dalmond's fall they did lose eleven members, two who had been out hunting in the plains beyond the village at the time and nine out of the ten who had gone to fight with the Eorzean Alliance. This gave his matriarch all the reason she needed to completely ban the use of magic within the village. Those already living within in were given a cold choice-stop or leave. All chose to leave, and as a result Xha'li's developing abilities as a mage would go unnoticed for the next five years.

Exile

It wasn't until after the harvest when Xha'li was seventeen that he would realize he was a potential mage, when one of his moms former adventuring party who had joined Stillglade Fane as a hearer after retiring himself came at the reluctant invitation of the matriarch to find out which trees the villagers could cut to replenish their dwindling wood stocks. Bring Xha'li along on the pretense of him acting as an escort and guide through a portion of the Twelveswood he was unfamiliar with he instead spent most of the day talking with him, and eventually succeed in convincing Xha'li that leaving the village under his own terms would be better then risk the matriarch finding out he was a potential mage and formally exiling him on trumped up charges that would make it hard for him to find a home in any tribe if he ever chose to settle back down in one. His mind made up, immediately upon his return to the village Xha'li informed the his matriarch that he would be leaving to study magic the following evening, before walking out. Most of his village remained supportive of him, as did his mother and twin. His brother however pretend he never existed to which Xha'li responded by arranging with his twin to have a box barring Xha'a's name along with date of birth and Xha'li's date of exile placed on his bed containing the traditional gifts in the village from the living to the dead.

Ways of the Mage

After arriving back in Gridania with the Hearer Xha'li spent the winter and early spring developing his magical talent. Under Kinzie's instruction, along with pointers and the occasional lesson from on of the Seedseers Xha'li quickly became adept with the simpler spells, but try as he might was never able to hear the Elementals. At the advice of Kinzie Xha'li left Gridania and his conjury studies behind to head to Limsa Lolimsa to see if Arcanum would suit his talents better. After spending several months in Crescent Cove looking for a way to Limsa Xha'li was fortune enough to get passage aboard the Phoenix Flame for simply doing what he could for a crew member who had lost his eye.

Upon his arrival in Limsa Lolimsa Xha'li quickly enrolled at Maelvan's Gate to begin his sturdy of Arcanum. During his first few weeks he was a nightmare for the assessor assigned to instruct him, always coming in late in the morning and falling asleep as she tried to teach him the basics of aetheric manipulation. At the end of his second week he succeed in summoning his a carbuncle for the first time, though over the next few days he would get frequent lectures about his treatment of it as he treated it like a pet, letting it develop its own personality. It wasn't however until his first visit to Soliloquy Tavern that he named it, choosing to call him Kehdah.

Personality

Fun loving and a mischief maker, Xha'li is rarely in a bad mood. Or at least this is how it appears. In truth he is still dealing with abruptness with which he was forced to leave behind everything he knew growing up, along with how his eldest brother treated him after his exile. Due to the less then amiable terms on which he left his tribe Xha'li has a growing distaste for the traditions of the Keepers following a single matriarch. While Xha'li is still a bit uncertain and reserved in most environments having only been out of his tribe for less then a year he a growing thirst for knowledge and is showing early signs of wanderlust.

Although he's not really aware of it himself at the moment he is searching for something to take of place of tribe in his social identity, what the will be only time will tell.

Rumors

Once spent 4 bells brushing his tail to get every grain of sand out after leaving it out while in the Thannalan.

Smells faintly of the sea from all the time he spends swimming as both exercise and relaxation aid.

Apparel

Xha'li normally dresses in simple clothing with plenty of pockets. While around Limsa Lolimsa and its environs he'll typically where a short sleeve shirt with full length pants and sturdy leather boots in shades of red. When his travels necessitate him entering the Thannalan he'll wear light colored clothing that fits loosely along with a white cloak with the hood up. In these cases most of the time his tail will be hidden beneath his shirt to keep sand from getting into his fur.

Fighting Style

In most cases Xha'li prefers to hang back from the battle while Kedah takes his opponent's attention. From here he can focus more easily on both keeping Kedah in the fight as well as casting his own spells on them to wear them down quicker.
