Appearance & Personality
- Unlike most Miqo'te, J'sano is heavier and possesses a build that is more muscular than is standard due to years of hard physical labor. His upper body is lined with thicker muscle than is common for his people, though his body still retains the characteristic powerful legs, leanness and agility of the Miqo'te. He also stands on the taller side for a Miqo'te, though this still means he is a good few ilms shorter than some of the other races of Eorzea.
J'sano's hair is an almost black shade of blue with sharp ears, traits he inherited from his father, with whom he shares a striking resemblance, and has teal colored eyes. His skin is a fairly even tone, not too pale and not to dark though it is noticibly lighter than what one would expect from someone who has lived their entire life in the deserts of Thanalan. He has a rather youthful appearance, though his face is usually set in a rather bored or cold look when he isn't in company, with the only distinctive marking on his face being a small scar on the left side of his jaw.
In terms of personality, J'sano is a rather shy person, very rarely speaking unless spoken to, and can be considered somewhat socially awkward. Years of being shunned and maligned have lead to him finding socializing with strangers to be somewhat hard. It is a rarity that he would strike up a conversation with a person first if he doesn't know them. This, combined with his rather stony faced expressions can lead to him looking unapproachable, but to those who get past this initially cold appearance he is a warm person that will always go out of his way for those he trusts.
Having grown up in a traditional Seeker of the Sun tribe, J'sano observes the faith of the Twelve, and like the rest of his people, pays particular homage to Azeyma the Warden, goddess of the Sun. For this reason, he finds some aspects of the new cultures he is encountering to be somewhat foreign and finds it strange when he meets other Seekers who are not so traditional.
Biography
Childhood
- J'sano was born to the Seeker's Jackal Tribe as one of the older sons of one of the newest Nunh's. It was during his formative years that he met J'sano and the two formed a fast friendship, becoming near constant companions and doing almost everything together. This also caused them to form a sort of rivalry with one another. It became that if they weren't required to work together on something, they would be competing with the other. While on occasion it did cause them to become angered or upset towards his friend, they would soon resolve their issues. The boy's mothers saw the rivalry as harmless, and in some ways encouraged it, knowing that in the future they would push one another to become better.
It was during these years that he also became aware of one of his greatest shortcomings. As many Seeker children do, he began to learn the ways of hunting from his mother, however, it quickly became apparent that he lacked almost any aptitude for the bow. J'sano's mother believed that patience was the key to the issue, remembering her own youth and how troublesome she initially found using the weapon, though some of the other members of their tribe began to look on in concern...
Teenage
- As the years went on it slowly became more and more apparent that J'sano would be of little use in the hunt. This caused some tensions to rise between J'sano's mother and some of the other members of the tribe, who began to view J'sano as an inevitable burden. Such animosity between neighbors didn't go unnoticed by the young Miqo'te either, and he soon became aware that if he didn't find a way to become a better hunter, or be useful in some way, he risked being exiled when he was of age. Despite all the efforts of his mother and J'nurah, who had shown to be quite a capable hunter in his own right, despite his young age, he was never able to improve.
It was only by chance that J'sano discovered that he was actually quite handy in terms of physical strength. By putting himself to work in various manners of physical labor he found that he was able to be of some use to his tribe and people began to see him as more than a burden for the tribe to carry. He began to train his body to be more capable physically as he felt that if he made himself stronger, and thus capable of performing more taxing or difficult labor, the other members of his tribe would see him as more useful.
During his teenage years he also found that, while skill with the bow still eluded him, he was good at using small blades. He discovered this after seeing a man out in Thanalan felling a peste with such weapons and made an attempt to mimic the combat style. He developed his own personal fighting style that made use of the natural agility he possessed due to being a Miqo'te, and the strength he had gained from working around the village. While it could hardly be considered anything more than a crude mimicry of a true fighting style, it was enough to fill J'sano with a desire to find a person like the mysterious man and learn how to truly fight with the blades.
When J'nurah would eventually tell J'sano of his plans to leave the village and find his way out into the world as an adventurer, J'sano would see it as an opportunity to fulfill his goal of finding a teacher in the arts of short-blade fighting and quickly told his friend that he would join him.
Present
- J'sano and J'nurah eventually saved up enough gil to purchase passage to the great city of Ul'dah, the pair intending to find teachers for their respective fighting styles. Travelling merchants that passed through their village told the two Miqo'te that the God's Quiver in Gridania could teach them more about the bow and while information on anyone like the man he had seen years ago fighting the peste was scarce, some of the merchants mentioned that it may be possible to find someone who knew something about short-blades in the pirate city of Limsa Lominsa.
Ul'dah was the first step towards reaching the two cities. Lacking the funds to travel all the way to Gridania and Limsa Lominsa, they decided instead to travel the jewel of Thanalan and seek what work they could there to fund the rest of their journey.
