Primals, also known as Eikons by the Garlean Empire, are fearsome beings of immense power. They first appeared about ten years ago, summoned forth by the destructive ambitions of the beast tribes. In present time, summonings of the Primals still continue as the beast tribe's desire to wreak havoc upon the people of Eorzea grows stronger. Summoning of a Primal takes a great deal of Aether and they are destructive to Eorzea due to this as well.

No man can stop Ifrit. Nor Leviathan and Titan, nor the eikons yet to come. Only Eorzea's end will bring about their death! — Charledore

Ifrit

The primal first summoned about eight years ago by the nomadic Amalj'aa, among whom he is worshipped as a guardian deity. According to Amalj'aa creation mythos, after the gods came together and gave birth to the world, Ifrit breathed the fire of intelligence unto the great lizards of Hydaelyn, so impressed was he with their resilience. Thus did the noble Amalj'aa tribe come into existence.

Known also as the "Lord of the Inferno," Ifrit is dreaded as a demon spawned of the seven hells by those who keep faith in the Twelve. Of all the enlightened peoples of Eorzea, Ul’dahns in particular have cause to fear the primal’s wrath, owing to the bad blood between them and the Amalj'aa that has formed over generations of territorial feuds. Tales hold that in the mere act of exhalation, Ifrit produces heat of such torridity as to reduce iron to pools of white-hot liquid.

Good King Moggle Mog XII

Legend holds that, in a time long forgotten, mooglekind abided in the heavens as loyal servants of the gods.

However, a war of deific proportions would erupt, triggered by a feud over a single goblet of wine. Growing weary of the conflict, the reigning moogle monarch, Good King Moggle Mog XII, resolved to lead his people to the realm of mortals in secret, that they might again know a life of peace.

Alas, the distance to the land below proved too great for little moogle wings. After much deliberation, it was decided that the journey must be made by rope, the longest that has ever been woven. So it was that the king grasped onto one end of this lifeline as his subjects, one after the next, half clambered, half slid their way to the Promised Land. In this manner all the moogles were able to arrive at their destination, whole of body and joyous of spirit. That is, all of them save for Good King Moggle Mog XII, who had not the means to lower himself.

Mourning their lost king and touched by his sacrifice, the moogles have since abstained from naming a successor to the crown. Even now, they hold fast to the belief that their beloved monarch will one day return before them in all his might and majesty.

Garuda

Worshipped by the Ixal, this capricious primal commands the winds. A figure equal parts woman and avian, Garuda calls the sky her dominion and the storms her servants.

Ixali teachings portray Garuda as the Empress of Birds. In the age of myth, she slew the malevolent Lord of Snakes, ending his foul attempt to bind the world’s creatures to the earth. It was through this deed that birds might now soar freely amid the clouds. The ferocity of the battle, however, left the victorious Garuda sorely wounded. She feasted on the carcass of the reptilian king to restore her strength, and, with her wounds thus healed, once again took wing. Legends say that Garuda’s bloody banquet, whilst healing her physical form, also left her with a taste for the flesh of land-bound mortals…

Thus for the flightless Ixal who claim kinship with birds, their bloodthirsty guardian deity is a source of both rapture and terror.

Odin

A fell knight clad all in black, Odin roams paths long forgotten beneath the canopy of the Black Shroud.

There are none now alive who know the truth of when or by whom this elder primal was first summoned into the world. Ever vigilant as he sits astride his mighty steed, Sleipnir, it is said that Odin is driven solely by the desire to do battle with worthy foes.

Bahamut

Held in duress for aeons within the lesser moon, Dalamud, the elder primal Bahamut broke free of his captivity when the celestial body was wrested from the heavens to descend upon the Battle of Carteneau. Once freed, the terrible being wrought fiery destruction across the length and breadth of Eorzea, his devastating rampage marking the beginning the Seventh Umbral Era. In the midst of the chaos, however, Bahamut was enveloped in a blinding white light and abruptly disappeared from the skies. None claim to have seen the primal in the five years since.
