♦ The Mysteries of Zana'tan Moshroca
It is presumed that Zana'tan Moshroca first arrived in Limsa Lominsa on a pirate vessel whose cargo was seized by the Arcanist's Guild at Mealvann's Gate. Zana'tan is listed in the records of Mealvann's Gate as one of the "items" seized by the authorities at this time. Thought to be a stowaway by the local administration, Zana'tan was perhaps taken into custody by the Arcanists's guild. It is in this moment in which he began his training as an arcanist.
Another tale states that Zana'tan Moshroca first arrived in Limsa Lominsa as a first mate aboard a pirate ship, the Death Wish. In this story, Zana'tan tells of his exile from Gridania by his parents. Living in a Keeper community in the forests, Zana'tan, as a teenager, was tricked and corrupted by Ixal summoners. These cultists warped Zana'tan's view of Eorzea, pushing him to study arcanum, but in very dangerous ways. When his parents discovered his terrible mistake, he was given the suffix "tan" as a mark of ironic shame, and sent away from the clan, never to return.
A final story tells of Zana'tan Moshroca's amazing journeys from Ul'dah to Gridania, and many different lands in between. A traveling Miqo'te that left his clan when he entered maturity, Zana'tan's adventures have been mysterious and grand. He has walked across deserts, swam across rivers, waded through bogs, and sneaked through caves. He now finds himself in Limsa Lominsa, looking for a trade.
♦ Appearance
Zana'tan is taller than the average Miqo'te, standing at 5'7. His body is lean and muscular--it is clear he engages in strict physical exercise everyday. His chest, back, and arms have prominent lines of muscle, and his legs are thick in corded muscle and in proportion to his upper body.
Zana's hair is a dark gray, almost black. His hair is not shiny, rather, it is textured and thick. His eyes constantly glow a silvery-white, and are one of his most notable features. These silver eyes are framed by long, feathery eyebrows. Zana'tan consistently wears different designs of black war paint on his face--these are a combination of geometric figures of arcanum and traditional Miqo'te symbols. His jaw is angular, and his cheekbones somewhat prominent. His face is overall strong, yet does not bare facial hair, and can appear smooth and youthful.
Zana's upper chest, around his shoulders and upper arms, are covered in tattoos linked to his arcane studies. When examined closely, the designs do not seem to be of any particular spell, but combinations of various spells, sometimes difficult to decipher.
♦ Behavior
Zana'tan is used to being alone and finds comfort only in himself. He is his own source of protection, of warmth, and of survival. Because of this he is very wary of strangers, and especially uncomfortable in groups of any size. One can easily tell when Zana is uncomfortable as he will want to be close to the ground, and often squats onto the balls of his feet, peering up at those around him. In addition, Zana finds comfort in his two daggers, as they provide him with a sense of security; two objects that have not failed him in the past.
Combat
Zana'tan is an arcanist that focuses on intense damage-dealing spells that compliment the powers of his summoned carbuncle or egi. His tome is filled with complex geometric designs that often combine poisonous, leeching spells with powerful, one-time blasts of energy.
It is rumored, though uncertain, that Zana is a skilled close-quarters combatant; that he is as silent as the best of thieves.
History
Though Zana'tan's background is filled with mystery and rumor, there are a few certainties that he often keeps consistent between tall tales:
First, Zana was exiled from his clan at the age of fifteen. His clan was most likely located in Gridania, which explains his reservations for travelling through the heavily forested region. It is rumored that his mother did not approve of his homosexual tendencies in conjunction with his very curious experimentation with the arcane, which started at age twelve.
Second, Zana is a traveler and a drifter. He moves about from locale to locale, in search of something very important to him. What this is, however, he has yet to share with anyone.
Third, Zana'tan is currently obsessed with the icy region of Coerthas, seeing it as the ideal location for him to search for a greater connection with Menphina.
