The past
At a very early age Bison’s parents died during the calamity leaving him alone to fend for himself. Luckily the village he resided in was very caring. The elders would often take Bison into their homes to feed and clothe him. By the age of nine or ten Bison became self-reliant and stayed in his parent’s old home. The kids of the village weren’t as compassionate as the rest of the villagers. They didn’t pick on Bison that much; instead they just excluded him from almost everything entirely. A few of the kids had a bad habit of picking on Proud Moon merely do to the fact she very was plump and easy to agitate.
As a couple years passed Bison spent less and less time in the village, except for when he needed some supplies. Instead he would take a pick-axe the smith had given him and go out and mine some ore. One day Bison was rather exhausted after hauling and trading in his ore for supplies. He didn’t see the commotion unfolding in front of him. It seems someone had pushed down Brave Storm which was Proud Moon’s youngest brother. Bison didn’t notice the crowd around the boy, or Moon’s screaming looking for who did this. Instead he walked straight through the group and tripped over Brave Storm and caught himself on Moon. Weather it was her temper that got the better of her, or the fact the other kids were saying I was the culprit. She pulled her fist back and smacked Bison right square in the nose. Weather it was because of the force of the blow, or exhaustion Bison fell the floor unconscious.
As he comes to, seeing everyone around him he quickly apologized and scurried out of there while grabbing his things. He knows she meant nothing by it because the other kids were just picking on her like they always do. Yet it also felt like a wake-up call for him. The next day Bison traded in his stockpile of ore and minerals for as much Gil and supplies that he could carry. He left the village with high hopes to see what else is out there. As the months went by he would come across valuable veins of ore, and would mine it so he could trade it for more supplies whenever he would come across a town.
Few months down the road Bison was wandering around through Dravania. He come across an older highlander woman and her son who was being attacked by a rather large bear. After rescuing her she offers him some fresh food and a place to stay that night. Her name was Ingri Warblade and was a traveling smith that would go from town to town selling her wares and repair what she could. After discovering that Bison was only 14 years old wandering the wilderness she offered him a ‘job’ of being her bodyguard in exchange for food and to learn the tricks of her trade.
For years Bison stayed with her learning all he could about smithing. Between going out and gathering ore during the morning and hammering metal all through the afternoon his physique was well kept. When they were in a city selling wares Bison would hang around the stall sporting his rather large sword he has grown accustomed to. He never had to use this sword as it was more of an intimidation tactic so trouble wouldn’t stir.
One night when they recently left Ul’dah they decided to make camp out beneath the stars in the desert. Bison was awoken by the sound of approaching footsteps, and quickly drew his blade to fend off the intruders. He was ambushed by a quite a few Amalj'aa. With each swing of his rather large sword an Amalj'aa warrior crumpled to the floor. “Flee for Ul’dah” Bison yelled out hoping Ingri would make it to safety. Soon after they Amalj'aa quickly overran him with multiple cuts and stabs. As Bison fell to the ground the last thing he could remember was the Amalj'aa grabbing her and her son and hauling them off.
The next thing he experiences was a slow bouncing sensation. As he slowly opened his eyes he could see the feathers of a dark purple chocobo. When Bison turned his head he could barely make out the form of a Miqo’te wielding what seemed to be a rather large axe. As he rode on the back of the chocobo his eyes began to feel heavy and quickly feel back into unconsciousness. For the next couple of days he found himself in a bed with his wounds bound up. Bison learned he was brought to his house by the Miqo’te “Mace Eagle”, which and his Niece “Amalaa Vass” is the one who bound his wounds and took care of him. "Amalaa Vass was the head of a mercenary company known as <The Queen's Gambit> and were known for taking any job if the gil was right. Didn't matter what side of the law it landed on. Bison became Amalaa's 'sword' and would travel with her and be her guard. He had to do some questionable deeds that shook Bison to his core. However when he was lost he found Izzy... she mended his wounds external and internal alike.
After being a part of a company who shared in rather dark tasks and missions. Bison could only take so much blood on his hands before he started asking the question... "why". He eventually took Izzy, Pyha, and Atima and fled the company. They stayed with Pyha until Bison could find them a house, and it wasn't long until they found and joined The Expatriates, where Bison found a home of people who actively seek out do right wrongs... and help each other.
