P E R S O N A L I T Y

Rivaer does not carry himself with the prideful air that most Elezen exude; rather he seems more friendly and approachable, because he is. He is big on helping people, though he has been burned in the past by being so helpful he regrets later on when others turn to him with responsibilities and requests he doesn't want to fulfil, but is reluctant to say no to. He is pleasant and considerate for others, though reserved and mostly places his actual emotions in body language over words, as he's not good with expressing emotion verbally. Words are not his forte, which is why he normally keeps silent; when he speaks, whatever he says can come off as blunt and unfeeling just as much as it can be honest and sincere because he doesn't add anything extra to whatever he says. He also prefers not to start conversations, but he will always respond in kind with gestures if he's interested.

When he actually does speak, more of his personality shows itself: he is softspoken, reserved, gentle. He tries to keep an open mind, but sometimes fails to stop his personal prejudices from getting into the way. Usually this is followed by frantic apologies. He's not usually aware of what he does and takes a long time to absorb a lesson, not exactly being the sharpest arrow in the quiver, but he does fly straight and true.

Regardless of his pleasant and friendly outlook, he has a tendency to hide his emotions for another reason - when he does express his emotions, they are at an intensity worth an abrupt and startling outburst that some might find frightening. His various fighting styles allow him to be more constructive on venting; it also makes him a fierce fighter who does not hold back. Sometimes fighting is the only way he relieves stress that way, even if it means bruised knuckles, calloused hands and bleeding fingers by the end of it. He also has a high pain tolerance, which ends up in scars when he forgets wounds are even there.

A P P E A R A N C E

His height makes him feel self-conscious at times when talking to anyone not Roegadyn or male Au Ra. Lalafell especially give him a bit of a neckache if talking to long periods of time, which he tries not to show. His broad shoulders betray a martial upbringing regardless of what he wears, and for his pride as a Pelderain he stands straighter than a tree. Like all Elezen he owns high cheekbones and a straight nose, though his left cheek is marred by a long scar stretching from the inner corner of his eye down to his jaw. The characteristic deepset eyes of his race are hidden, much like his emotions, behind a layer of light red facepaint streaked over both his deep green eyes. He appears to have a light smile playing on his lips perpetually.
His ponytail is a characteristic mess. He doesn't care enough to sort it out; if he did, he'd have cut his hair a long time ago.

L I K E S ■ Cooking. Will go great lengths to get fresh ingredients for his dishes. He is no experimenter or pioneer - he cooks to eat, not create a culinary masterpiece - and considers himself positively an amateur, but when he gets the chance he'll be making himself and friends dinner. ■ Botany and gardening. Takes great delight in watching plants grow as he carefully nurtures and tends to them. He may even be a green thumb to some extent, but because he lives in an apartment his gardening choices are limited. Also tends to be somewhat pedantic over plant names. ■ Fashion. Rivaer genuinely enjoys looking good and has a surprisingly discerning eye for combinations of various outfits that accentuate his own aesthetics. He does not offer this sense to others, feeling that it's purely based on personal preferences, but for him? Looking good is part and parcel of being a good fighter.

D I S L I K E S ■ Fishing. He will swear up and down by the Twelve that it's the most boring thing in the world to do - and he enjoys watching plants grow. ■ Failure. He hates when he feels he's failed something he swore to do, even if it doesn't affect others. When he sets out to do something, he tries to do it well. If he fails, he will internally berate himself for it. ■ Dishonesty. Look, do whatever you choose to do and make your choices, but don't lie about it. It just means you pretend to care, when you don't. Rivaer dislikes people who pretend so.

Q U I R K S ■ Preening. If he seems to be making himself look good - sweeping hair out of his eyes, straightening his clothes, being prideful of his appearance - it's subconscious and he's not aware that he's doing it. It comes from his upbringing, where his mother would always tell him to straighten out his clothes and make himself presentable until he started doing it pre-emptively, and now it's permanent. ■ Hearing. Rivaer tilts his head towards new sounds. It's not like he needs to, because of his large ears, but he automatically always turns his head slightly to any new sound. ■ Neck cricking. Only executed when a Lalafell is coming up to talk to him/when he's going to talk to a Lalafell. It's a learned thing.
