Gareki Yukimura is an engineer from Othard born of mixed blood between a hyur with dragon blood and a Keeper of the Moon miqo'te. He has a heavy background in scientific knowledge and is well-trained in most crafting disciplines. Because he's young, he's still learning and is currently serving as a student of the Skysteel Manufactory to improve his skills as a machinist. He's also very handy with a bow and enjoys long-ranged combat. He isn't capable of using magic nor does he possess a lot of strength or bulk, but his agility makes him a formidable opponent. His skill with machinery stems from his knowledge and passion in the subject, and he used to have good eyesight and advanced spatial recognition before his eyes were damaged.

Noticeably shorter than most males, Gareki has a small build and stature, but his lean body and high agility more than compensate for his faults. He has a few faded scars on his body but nothing noticeable, marks he'd gained from years of hunting and living in the forest. His hands are noticeably very rough and calloused, sometimes bandaged or full of cuts from constantly working with them. He favors wearing goggles on his head like Cid to amplify his vision and dresses very practical; he likes sleeves, gloves, leather, boots, very light armor, some unobtrusive headpieces and hats. He can't stand foppish clothes with lace or too many embellishments. His tail is also very fluffy and long, a definitive Yukimura trait, and he has the standard miqo'te markings under his eyes. Though he's a Keeper of the Moon, he has slitted, dragon-like eyes from his father's dragon blood, hence the narrowed pupils that look more like those of a Seeker. No other scars or discernible features; usually smells like coal, steam, fire, wood, or metal. He's rather plain-looking; doesn't stand out much in a crowd nor does he have his sister's beauty, a fact that he uses to his advantage as he can slip into places unnoticed, aided by his own light-footedness and limber musculature. He started wearing glasses at the age of nineteen after his eyes were badly damaged from being possessed by a voidsent dragon. He also wears a more advanced pair of goggles made of magitek to help him see and aim properly. His scent has also become noticeably undetectable as a result of his possession, and his body is still in slow recovery.

Biography

Born to the Utakata tribe of Keepers of the Moon miqo'te on Othard, he was only one of four males in his miqo'te tribe, the other three being Yamato, Kurou and Takashi. Takashi had a mate already, Kurou was adopted by a raen family, and Yamato was far too old, making Gareki the only available male for breeding. Because Megumi didn't want her brother to be used and wanted him to have his own independence and autonomy, she didn't allow any of the other miqo'te to mate with him.

His mother, Ouka Yukimura, was the former head of their tribe and a strong beast hunter who specialized in a samurai-style of combat and medicine. Her lightning-infused blade was passed down to Gareki when she died. His father, Ibuki, was a hyur and a dragoon (where his dragon-blood may have come from). He once served Ishgard and was believed to have come from a long line of bloodbearers who drank dragon's blood to achieve the ability to transform. This feature was kept secret from both children and only shows up in Gareki and Megumi's eyes which contain hidden powers of the old dragons of yore.

Both of Gareki's parents were slaughtered by the Garleans and laid to rest near the Plum tree forest in Yanxia, and Gareki had henceforth been protected by both Megumi and Yamato. Since then, he grew up without knowing much of his parents except through tales the tribe would share with him.

He also met Klair Dratahr when he was about three years-old and Klair was six. A mysterious injury had left Klair on the brink of death, but Ouka employed Gareki to play junior nurse while he was with them and Klair healed under their careful watch. Gareki reunited with Klair years later when he was thirteen and when Megumi began a relationship with Klair's best friend and confidante, Jhi'a. Though Gareki had a crush on Klair then, he didn't speak much of it and just silently watched him from afar since he was too young for Klair at the time.

Gareki then spent much of his teenage years traveling around Othard and learning from great smiths and crafters. He also graduated from using bows for hunting to firearms and cannons, many of which he learned to build himself. He also learned how to construct and outfit small airships using a lot of the engineering manuals from Cid's Ironworks.

Since his dream had been to meet and study under Cid personally, he decided to venture out towards Aldenard with Kitsuno and had enlisted in the Skysteel Manufactory while simultaneously tutoring with some of the scholars in the Saint Endalim Scholasticate after breaking into their library stacks enough times. Afterwards, he frequented the Great Gubal Library to research hidden tomes and be chased out by cranky apparitions. Currently, he's continuing his apprenticeship in the Skysteel Manufactory in Ishgard and travels frequently back and forth to Shirogane where he has a small, two-story home.

He also had a son with Klair named Nayel who was abducted by Klair's vindictive brother and held captive by void dragons, one of who possessed Gareki and tried to coerce him into killing his loved ones. His sister and husband banded together to fight him off and purge the corruption before Nayel was eventually rescued. Nayel now stays with Klair and his grandparents while Gareki focuses on his work and studies in Shirogane and tries to work around his disabilities.

♥♥ Klair Gawain - Mate and husband. They've been married for a year and have a baby named Nayel together. Gareki loves him a lot but feels he doesn't measure up to him and has trouble fitting in with Klair and Klair's lifestyle, so he tends to shy away from him a lot.

♥ Megumi Yukimura - Gareki's older sister by three years. She's the head of their tribe and very kind and selfless in spite of her brash demeanor. Gareki thinks she treats everyone distantly because she's afraid to get hurt and worries he may have learned that same habit from her, but he knows how much cares for her tribe and family. Their mutual stubbornness leads to lots of bickering between them.

♥ Takashi Yukimura - Gareki's cousin who he looks up to and admires quite a lot. He treats him as an older brother to himself and occasionally spends time with him and his family while they're in Ishgard.

♥ Mina Yukimura - Gareki's cousin and Shiro's younger sister. She's a samurai who serves Lord Kamui Oda of Owari.
