Those that pass her initial appraisal, however, see a warm and caring individual, one who is civic-minded, patient and generous to a fault. Those that don't are quick to learn a much colder, different woman. Her body is covered in countless little nicks and scars, the most visible ones being the ones along her face and the horizontal gash on her right side, along her waist. She is athletic, loves climbing and balancing on things, and enjoys the company of those she considers friends. Her nearly insatiable curiousity sometimes lands her in trouble, but it is one that lends itself well to her vigilantism, one she claims is borne from a life raised in Thanalan. She has little respect for the Brass Blades and even less for the Syndicate, her learned yet neutral stance on the Immortal Flames being the sole point against her streak of anti-authoritarianism. The drawl she is known to speak in is the end result of numerous dialects and accents she's been exposed to mashing together into a crude amalgam. Occasionally, she is heard to speak in more refined manners, something she claims is a holdover from her past. Brief History Little written history exists for "Sleepy Cat", officially recognized as an orphan and a refugee on her Ul'dahn citizenship records. More information can be gleaned from her more recent Immortal Flames service record, albeit little: most of her superior officers describe her as a skilled arbiter and civil servant who preferred postings closer to Ul'dah; a talented yet reckless spellblade as well. While she had received a number of commendations for conduct, so too was she cited for various 'behavioral issues': post abandonment, harrasing Brass Blade officers and Free Brigadiers, and counts of excessive brutality among others. She has one dismissal on record (which seems to have been overturned), and currently serves in the Reserve. She is known to maintain a presence in the Quicksand and has an established reputation as an altruist. Outside of Ul'dahn jurisdiction, a few independent organizations providing care for Ul'dah's considerable refugee population recount Sleepy's past presence within their ranks as 'welcome' and describe her as a conjurer of no small talent, and the Conjurer's Guild registry reflects this -- though there is reason to suspect she has since fallen out of practice. While tenuous, a woman (or women) matching Sleepy Cat's appearance can be found in two other instances: outdated records found in Temple Knight archives reference a serial murderer known as the Coerthan Wildfire. However, the reports conclude that the woman was found burned to death, having never been brought to justice for 11 executions, 8 murders and accusations of practicing dark arts. Prior to that, Sleepy was detained previously by the Brass Blades as the suspect of various instances of highway robbery, kidnapping and extortion, however the trail ends with a transcript of an unproductive interrogation and subsequent release. Aside from looking mildly intimidating (or just goofy), she can manipulate her field of vision to encompass a mere small sphere: enough to read a person's aether while posing negligible risk to herself, unless maintained for too long (roughly 15 seconds) or over-expanded. Naturally, she is immensely vulnerable in such a state. ● Empathic Projection: Sleepy can manipulate her own emotional state to 'feed' emotions to others, if allowed. While she can maintain this for longer stretches of time, there are risks inherent to its misuse, and she must maintain her focus on the effect the entire time. ● Conjury: Sleepy has.. or had, a commanding grasp on conjury -- one she has only recently started regaining. While others are capable of more time- and aether-efficient healing, Sleepy's abilities in conjury are the only ones that have the added side effect of making people feel oddly warm. Combat Abilities ● Darkfire Bolt: A lifetime spent in the heat of Thanalan has left Sleepy slightly attuned to fire, which is present in nearly all of her Darkside abilities. A bolt of flaming aetheric pitch is thrown or otherwise projected at a target. Sleepy can increase the intensity of the projectiles or hold them until needed, but both carry the risk of harm to herself -- a theme common to the miqo'te. ● Barricade: An extension of her less violent learnings, Sleepy is able to focus to maintain a barrier around herself in a two-yalm sphere. The barricade itself can absorb damage, deflect or slow projectiles, and is fire-aspected. One of the rare abilities that does not pose an immediate threat to her well-being. ● Barricade|Party Trick: An ability that doesn't pose an immediate threat to Sleepy's life is something Sleepy apparently just can't get behind. Her normal, harmless barricade is exposed to an outside flammable substance (usually alcohol). Unsurprisingly, the substance ignites, and Sleepy bends the resulting fire to her will, using it as fuel for a more rapid but slightly weaker barrage of bolts. Sometimes, she even leaves a part of the barricade unignited so she can see what she is aiming at. ● Darkside: As each Dark Knight is different, so too is each Darkside. Sleepy's apparently realizes the value of keeping the balance maintained (and appreciates the relative freedom it has gained in pursuing whatever agenda it has) and there is a degree of mutual understanding and even trust between the two entities. In the most dire situations, Sleepy quite literally steps inside herself -- piloting her mortal vessel as one pilots Magitek armor. In turn, her Darkside harnesses Sleepy's potent emotional reserves to wreak havoc. ● Peacemaker: There are rumors that Sleepy is capable of knocking her own fragile aetheric balance into such a volatile state that she can forcefully detonate herself as a last resort. Seeing as how Sleepy is currently alive, the rumors are unsubstantiated, and probably false. OOC Note Using fire on Sleepy is probably a bad idea, unless you want to make her stronger. CHARACTER TIDBITS Inventory Little bits and bobs Sleepy keeps around. ■ "Anna" [Model Magitek Bit] - What was once a ruined mass of a Garlean drone soon became Sleepy Cat's hobby project as she recovered from her ordeal. With the help of some stolen parts, stolen books and stolen.. everything else, she managed to bring the drone back to working order, figure out some potential uses for it, and even construct a crude bangle that allows her to direct it... most of the time. After a brief fix-up, it boasts impressive listening range and increased stability. ■ "Errant Ember" [Ul'dahn Claymore] - Sleepy Cat's personal claymore, gifted to her by her squadron after she was discharged from the Flames. Eventually, she'd worm her way back into the ranks... but nobody's sure just how she managed it. The blade has been treated to be heat-resistant to a much higher degree than standard swords: Sleepy's unique combat stylings demand such. ■ Unnamed Codex - A privately commissioned grimoire which only responds to Sleepy's aetheric signature. Within lies the extent of her research on dark knights, interviews with individuals and comprehensive analysis of their state of health. It is information Sleepy wishes to distill and disseminate someday, to combat ignorance, guide the lost, and ultimately save lives. ■ "Uurdiin Zurig" <Everlasting Courage> - A blackened leather gauntlet with earth-aspected crystal shards embedded into the back of the palm. There is a likeness of Sleepy's mother etched into the back as well, but the gauntlet serves more purpose than a simple keepsake: it is capable of calling forth a small earthen shield, akin to a buckler. Current Motivations ■ Sleepy is being hunted by a Temple Knight with an agenda: he wants Sleepy dead, she objects to this. He may have connections... ■ Sleepy is attempting to be more social in order to work through some lingering trauma.
