Raised to be borderline self-deprecating because of the sins of her tribe, she had a hard time believing her life had any value if she's not using it to help others. As she grew older, she began to reject the entire concept, especially after learning of her father's background. Now, what sort of person she is depends heavily on who you ask. It seems like she isn't intentionally insincere, just aware that slightly altering one's behavior based on who you are with is a safe way to get by. Only those close to her start getting a feeling for her true nature. In any case, she doesn't have a reputation of being unkind nor a pushover.
